PHYSICAL EDUCATION

"One, two, three, four; Two, two, three, four; Three,
two . . . " Is that Fred Lewis' melodious voice?
"What do we gotta do this for?" Is that the student's
anxious reply?
Frozen in the winter, scorched in the summer, and per
spiring all the time, Wilson students endured a vigorous
physical education program this year. Aside from the
smelly sweatsocks, the odor of unwashed gym suits, and
the inconveneince of wet hair mid-way through the day,
"Frizz Ed." provided a stimulating break to the academic
drudgeries.
The new department chairman, Mr. Fred Lewis, not only
brought his voice, but harmony to the program.
His staff provided valuable instruction in physical thera
py, sex education, and personal hygiene.

MATHEMATICS

We believe that it is the purpose of the Math Depart
ment to drive students to committing acts of violence.
Armed with such weapons as slide rules, protracters and
compasses we attack the problems that face a modern
technological society.

SCIENCE

In biology we are taught the difference between the
birds and bees, flowers and trees. In physics we are taught
about the different forces that act upon the birds, bees,
and trees. In chemistry we learn why we don't flush so
dium down the toilet.
The best biology essay turned in this year merits men
tion in our yearbook.
It is entitled "The Frog are a Wonderful Bird" and is as
follows:

The Frog Are A Wonderful Bird
What a wonderful bird the frog are. When he
stand, he sit almost, when he hop, he fly almost. He
ain't got no sense hardly. He ain't got no tail hardly,
either, when he sit on what he ain't got almost".

"Another reprimand from the office. I wish they'd give the Joneses in
'V e rrrrrrrrrrrrrry interesting, but dumb!!!' this school straight down there!"

BUSINESS EDUCATION

“ I'm giving a test next period. Can you run these dittos
off for me now?"
Instruction in office practice keeps the business stu
dents and the members of the business department work
ing practically all the time. Not only are students provided
with the learning skills in shorthand, clerical procedures,
and secretarial work, they are also provided with the
pragmatic aspects of business by performing services for
other departments throughout the school.

Under the direction of Miss Elizabeth Hegner, an Intra-
District Office Educational program was put into opera
tion this year. Students participate in a two week program
consisting of fulfilling secretarial responsibilities for var
ious schools in the locality.

Hrup, two, three, four . . . Commander
Richard Young
“ Hey, is Mr. Lewis in NJROTC, too?"

This year Commander Young was
very proud to announce the addition
of female cadets to the ranks. Re-ac-
tion of the male cadets seemed
favorable.
The program persisted in its effort to
expand its development by continuing Chief
Arthur Clarke
to involve students in actual on-board
ship experiences.

FINE ARTS

The fine arts students are a "crafty”
bunch. Often up to their elbows in mud
and occasionally "bespattered" with
paint, they try to create objects of beauty
and meaning. An excellent example of
the type of work produced is the master
piece used on the cover of this publica
tion, compliments of Mrs. Mellon, chair
man of the Art Department.

FOREIGN LANGUAGES

This year our foreign language department has but one thing to say, and that
something is the same in every language.

Finnish: Elama Wilsonissa palvelee tarpeitamme!
Pig Latin: llsonway isay ifelay ervingsay ouryay, eedsnay!
/ A Gibberish: Wilson is life, serving our needs!

PRACTICAL ARTS

Something new was added to the practical arts program
this year — an exhaust fan and girls' shop.
In Home Economics, the girls learned how to prepare
dinners and mend clothing, and mow rugs. Furthermore,
they were exposed to the joys of apartment living.
The boys concentrated on producing wooden furniture
and metal novelties (until they were asked to stop).

WORK EXPERIENCE

The work experience program is self-explanatory. The object is to give
students a chance to practice specific work skills under the guidance of
local businessmen, while at the same time expanding basic academic
skills in the classroom.
Under the direction of Mssrs. DeFranco, McKenna, and Gobora, this
project appears to be continuing and expanding successfully. Certainly
the students, who leave school before noon, would not argue with that.
Some members of the faculty and community disagree with the idea of
excusing students to go to work. But others know that someday they may
need a lock fixed, or a pipe "plumbered”; a valve job, or even a simple
hamburger prepared. If this be the case they can be forever grateful to
the V. 1. C. kids.

Ron really had 'em riled when he painted the wrong
house.

"I know there was an engine in here this morning!"

A. V.

“Lights, cameras, action, roll
em! Wait a minute — there
ain't no film in this camera."

“They cut the budget! Use
Scotch Tape and draw little pic
tures on it!"

So begins another typical day
for the A. V. department.

Directed by Mr. George
Hopely, the A. V. group pro
vides needed equipment such
as broken tape recorders,
mangled film projectors, shat
tered records and burned out
overheads. Would Wilson have
been life without them?

“ Uh-oh! How did those pictures get in here?'

DRIVERS EDUCATION

There are many rewards to be gained from participa
tion in the Driver Education course. Insurance companies
agree that students having completed the program are
entitled to rate reduction. Teachers are pleased to see a
student driving within the speed limits in the school park
ing lot (for a change), and the students are glad enough to
be excused from class work to do so.

(Mrs.) (Mrs.) (Mrs.)
The many people here named, and those unsung, fall
into so many categories that we cannot provide space for
truly accurate and appreciative coverage. It is not our
purpose to treat these individuals as nothing more than
"leftovers”. The yearbook hopes that you will remember
the faces of the forces which soothed our ills, painted
walls, eyed our attendance, and generally kept the school
moving in an orderly fashion.
