EXCIDE

From her earliest days on the banks of the
Tiber, Rome watched her Mediterranean neigh
bors with searching curiosity. As time passed, it
became evident that the treasures of the civilized
world had been absorbed into Roman culture;
the Romans supplemented the knowledge they
acquired with their own superb system of gov
ernment; all they adopted was given the "golden
touch’’ of Roman organization. (Rome became
the "Eternal City’’).
The selection of our theme, "The Glory
That Was Rome,” has been made with a defi
nite purpose in mind. For, like that of Rome,
ours was a humble beginning. To prosper and
enrich our ways, we have echoed the ideas of
many who were established before us. But we
have given the old an original, inspiring look
of the new. W e have revived the old ideas in a
fresh spirit that is uniquely and entirely "W IL
SON.”
It is this spirit of "Non-Excide”—none
better— that has become our own "golden
touch.”

ROBERT P. MARTIN

To the Class of 1963
Dear Seniors,
You are completing a stage of your education. Do not assume that your learning
is at an end. I wish your future to be fruitful. You will be successful if you continue
your education. The future demands specialization. The excellent educational program
provided by the faculty of Woodrow Wilson High School has given you the basis to
go forward.
Congratulations and best wishes.
Robert P. Martin
District Superintendent

Dear Seniors,
The Class of 1963 is to be complimented on its achieve
ments and recognition attained during the years at Wood-
row Wilson High School. Upon these triumphs, we shall
always reflect with justifiable pride.
We at Woodrow Wilson High School shall endeavor
to gain the respect that it has in the past. Indeed, the
zeal, fevor and dedication to self, school and task exempli
fied by the Class of 1963 will enhance the tradition which
will always "Be Wilson.”
Your many attainments and contributions have estab
lished a record of which you can be most proud. Woodrow
Wilson High School may point with pride to the memorable
contributions given by you, the Class of 1963.
As each of you seeks to fulfill his aspirations, may the
deeds of today render impetus to your conquests of tomorrow.
Sincerely, may I extend my desire for the future to bestow
success and good fortune upon each of you.
Sincerely yours,
Frank J. Furgele
Principal

Seniors,
It is always with mixed emotions that students in
your position approach this time of year. Some of you
have the failures of the past to reflect upon, more of you
have the anxiety of the present, but most of you have
the future to speculate upon; to you the promise of a
fruitful and happy life lies ahead, dependent upon your
own desires, skills and determinations.
To you, who have begun to fulfill your obligations to
yourself, the future opens wide; it is there for you but to
fill the position you select for yourself. Your success must
be based on preparation; how you use today will determine
how tomorrow will use you.
Good luck in the forthcoming challenges and may you
meet them with determination and forthrightness.
Sincerely
Harold W. Hunter
Administrative Assistant

hi Everlasting Remembrance
re

As the day of graduation draws near, the problems of the past three years are
somewhat overshadowed. But the excitement of these final weeks has not faded our
gratitude to a man who has always been considerate of us in moments of difficulty.
To those of us whom he has taught, and to the many more of us whom he has known
and advised, this man’s congenial, understanding mahner and his enthusiasm to encourage
students have been an inspiration.
The organizations he directs were among the first to bring recognition to Wilson,
and achieving state-wdde honors has become traditional for them. His interest in the
progress of our school is unsurpassed, and throughout the year, he masterfully performs
the task of making our achievements known and appreciated by those around us.
He is a teacher who, through his competence, his sincerity, and his modesty, has
won our respect and has been accepted as a leader by his colleagues.
The Class of ’63 would like to express its appreciation of this man who has un
selfishly rendered his talents to develop Woodrow Wilson High School and has done
so much to generate its spirit.
With pride, we dedicate the 1963 "Non Excide" to Mr. Guy Petroziello.
