Harmony Is The Key

To The Delhaas

Chorus

The Delhaas Varsity Voices, is open
to any student in Delhaas who has the
desire to sing, and the time. The cho
rus gives two major concerts a year,
one at Christmas and one during
Spring. In the past we have sung with
the Delaware Valley Philharmonic, and
recently with the Temple University
Choir. As a member of the chorus, one
can test and challenge their talents by
competing in County, District, Region
al, and State choruses. We are proud to
say that we have been represented in
all of these. "We put the words and the
melody together and had fun doing it!”

Speech And Debate

Even though victory did not come
easily to the speech and debate teams,
f] the year was not a total loss. We all
{ experienced the thrill of victory and
i the agony of defeat.
i[ The year was highlighted by the
many victories in extemp by Richard
Metters.
This year proved to be a great year
of learning for all members. With the
,, help of an excellent coach the outlook
for the future is very bright.

The Tiger Roars six times a year, and Del

1978 The Year O f The Cat

Working on this year’s
Yearbook has been quite an
experience - all 192 pages.
With a great selection of color
photographs, we started
working on the first part of
the book. Seniors came along
next, with waiting for proofs
and drawing 47 layout pages
over and over again. Along
came underclassmen of whom
the staff didn’t know half.
After many long hours we got
to know them. Next, the
sports craze, with all our
teams doing well; pages of our
heroes had to be better. Ac
tivities, which keep our school
going, were a maze of faces
and groups) after much persis
tence we managed to get or
ganized. Last, but not least,
everyone’s favorites, the fac
ulty - we couldn’t forget them,
(or could we?)

In September we didn’t have an ad
visor. When that was settled we start
ed to lay out the first 16 pages. Pictures
had to be taken, cover chosen, sales
and promotion for the book. The first
deadline rolled around too soon, one
day and still no pictures. At last the
pictures came and the pages went to
the printer.
Ads, typing, corrections, pictures,
layouts, and always those deadlines.
Putting a yearbook together is a never-

163 SCHOOL BOARD

The Head Cat

Students:

You have just completed what many youth development
experts regard as the four most formative years of your life.
Some of the experiences which you have had during these
years are school related, but many others are associated
with family, friends and neighborhoods.
5 Regardless of the origin of influences on your lives, it is
fair to say that you are not the same person now that you
were four years ago. All of you have grown physically and,
although not as easily discernible, you have grown intellectu
ally, emotionally and socially.
Many of you have achieved a better understanding of
those around you and have learned to be more tolerant of
others. At the same time you may have learned to be more
sensitive to both human frailties and strengths as you have
seen them operating in the lives of your classmates. All of
this should have enhanced your personal growth.
Hopefully, a part of this growth can be attributed to Del-
haas High School through its teachers, teams, organizations
and activities.
All of us at Delhaas wish you every success in the futrue.
Frank X. O’Donnell
Principal
