The Dog and
the Crocodile

Once there was a farm near a river.
At the farm, there were a lot of
animals. A mother dog lived in this

farm with its three puppies. She loved
her puppies very much.

มีฟาร์มแห่งหนึ่ง ตั้งอยู่ใกล้ ๆ กับแม่น้ำสายหนึ่ง ที่ฟาร์ม
แห่งนี้ เลี้ยงสัตว์ต่าง ๆ ไว้มากมายหลายชนิด แม่สุนัขตัว
หนึ่ง พร้อมกับลูกของมันทั้ง 3 ตัวก็อาศัยอยู่ที่ฟาร์มนี้ด้วย

เช่นกัน แม่สุนัขนั้นรักลูก ๆ ของมันมาก

One day, there was a crocodile coming from the
river. It ate a puppy and went back to the
river. The mother dog was very sad and she

was sure that the crocodile would come to eat
her puppies again.

วันหนึ่ง มีจระเข้ตัวหนึ่งขึ้นมาจากน้ำแล้วตรงเข้าจับลูกสุนัขไป
กินเป็นอาหารก่อนที่จะคลานกลับลงน้ำไป แม่สุนัขเสียใจมาก

มันแน่ใจว่า จระเข้จะต้องกลับมากินลูกของมันที่เหลืออีก

So, she ran to the barn and said, “Please help
me, the crocodile will come to eat my puppies
again.” But, no animals would to help her. “I
cannot help you. The crocodile was big and very
fierce,” said a horse. “I agree,” said an ox.

แม่สุนัขจึงรีบวิ่งเข้าไปในโรงนา แล้วร้องอ้อนวอนว่า “ได้โปรดช่วยฉัน
ด้วย เจ้าจระเข้คงจะมากินลูก ๆ ของฉันอีกเป็นแน่” ไม่มีสัตว์ตัวใด
ยอมช่วยแม่สุนัข “ข้าช่วยเจ้าไม่ได้หรอก เจ้าจระเข้มีรูปร่างใหญ่โต
และดุร้ายมาก” ม้าบอก “ใช่แล้ว ๆ” พ่อวัวก็เห็นด้วย

The mother dog then walked to ask the donkey,
but he also said “No.” This made her despair.
Therefore, she left the barn and cried under a
tree. At that time, a black dog passed by. “Why

are you crying” asked he.

แม่สุนัขจึงไปหาลา แต่ลาก็ปฏิเสธเช่นกัน ทำให้แม่สุนัขรู้สึก
สิ้นหวัง มันจึงไปยืนร้องไห้อยู่ใต้ต้นไม้ ขณะนั้นมีสุนัขดำตัว

หนึ่งเดินผ่านมา “ท่านร้องไห้ทำไมหรือ” สุนัขดำถาม

After the mother dog told him her
story, he said, “Don’t be afraid. I will

bring my friends to help you.”

แม่สุนัขจึงเล่าเรื่องทั้งหมดให้สุนัขดำฟัง “อย่ากลัวไป
เลย ข้าจะไปพาเพื่อน ๆ มาช่วยท่านเอง” สุนัขดำบอก

The next day, when the crocodile came to farm to
eat another puppy, the mother dog whined for
help. The black dog heard her whine and quickly
ran to the farm with his friends. Although the

crocodile was big and fierce, all the dogs fought
without fear.

วันต่อมา เมื่อจระเข้กลับมาเพื่อจะกินลูกสุนัขอีก แม่สุนัขจึงเห่าขอ
ความช่วยเหลือ สุนัขดำได้ยิน จึงรีบวิ่งมาช่วยพร้อมกับเพื่อน ๆ
ของมัน แม้จระเข้จะตัวโตและดุร้าย แต่พวกของสุนัขดำก็เข้าต่อสู้

อย่างไม่เกรงกลัว

Some dogs died, but others still fought

bravely. The crocodile was hurt so badly that

it had to run back to the river. “Thank you

very much. My puppies and I will never forget

your help. From now on, we will live here

safely,” said the mother dog.

สุนัขบางตัวต้องตายไปในระหว่างการต่อสู้ แต่ตัวที่เหลืออยู่ก็คงต่อสู้กับ
จระเข้ต่อไปอย่างกล้าหาญ จระเข้ถูกพวกสุนัขกัดได้รับบาดเจ็บสาหัส
จนทนไม่ไหวจึงหนีลงน้ำกลับไป “ฉันและลูก ๆ จะไม่ลืมบุญคุณของ
พวกท่านในครั้งนี้เลย ต่อไปนี้พวกเราคงได้อยู่อย่างปลอดภัยซะที” แม่

สุนัขกล่าวอย่างซาบซึ้งใจ

“Friend in need is a friend indeed.”

เพื่อนที่ยื่นมือเข้ามาช่วยเหลือในยามทุกข์ยาก
คือ เพื่อนที่แท้จริง
