Dissemination of Hong Lou Meng in
Press ——Reanalysis of it’s Early Spread
in Singapore and Malaysia.
Abstract: The dissemination of Hong Lou Meng
in Singapore and Malaysia began in the press.
Mr. Khoo Seok Wan created literary works and
formed a cross-regional literary network using
the early Chinese press as a carrier. This
unique literary phenomenon helped in
promoting Hong Lou Meng, and added colours
to the region's Chinese literature. It also showed
the early dissemination changed from hidden
to open, from the elite to the masses; of
diversified and modern methods and
techniques. It affected the subsequent
dissemination of Hong Lou Meng in Singapore
and Malaysia, and became a cultural carrier of
Singaporean and Malaysian Chinese identity.
