LIE is an acronym of Little Ideas Everyday, an
independent graphic design studio based in Kuala
Lumpur.
Founded in 2011, LIE works across a diverse range of
visual communication projects. Constantly practice
and seek for fresh approaches everyday, provide
innovative, beautiful solutions for clients, as well as
self-initiated projects. Not sticking with the norm or
patterns, LIE believe there’s always room to explore in
design.

'Makanlah Buah-Buahan Tempa-
tan' (Eat Local Fruits) is a group
exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur in
the year 2011 and 2013. We've invited
more than 30 local designers/art-
ists to reinterpret this nostalgic &
popular drawing theme during our
primary school. A collaborative effort
to promote local fruits as well as to
rally the nation to appreciate (and
consume) locally crafted art. After
all, art is also one of the fruits of our
homeland.

Container Hotel is built from renew-
able-freight-containers, bringing the
value and concept of sustainabili-
ty into practicality. Inspired by the
graphics on shipping containers, we
created a bold and modern identi-
ty with a full set of visual language
based on the same grid system.

Kaiju is the first Thai–Japanese
fusion restaurant in Kuala
Lumpur. The name Kaiju is a
Japanese film genre that features
giant monsters, so we used a
Godzilla as the main logo and a
Thai Dragon as it's nemesis.

scope of work

In the beginning, I was assigned to work for some parts of the
projects running by LIE . Driv, the director of LIE advised on
my work and gave suggestions. Meanwhile, all my works was
arranged by Se Yin, the copywritter of LIE.
Throughout the internship, I tried a lot of styles and applied
to the project design. Initially, I was focused on designing
landing page and this was my first experience of webpage
design. After that, there were more and more projects coming
in. Advertising and branding were my main tasks and I felt
a bit challenging as some of the styles were something
that I have yet to try before I worked for LIE. I have designed
and created posters, flyers, banners, annual reports and
wayfinding design. Among all the designs, wayfinding was
the most difficult task for me to work on because I required
to find out the contents and the sizes of the clients’ products.
Although it was a hard task, Driv was willing to correct my
mistakes and gave me some practical references to improve
my work through some websites. I applied some of my
academic knowledges on all of my internship works and I
realised it is different between academic projects and current
company projects.
There was a great experience for me to join my colleagues on
site visit as well. We was required to observe the environment
of the buiding and had a brainstorm session over there
before we designed. I gave some suggestions to make the
session to be executed smoothly and generated better ideas
for our team.
Last but not least, Logo designs and youtube banners design
were my main tasks from my mid of internship till the end.
I was become more skillful and get used to design those
similar projects after been through all the projects of LIE.

wIn this project, we required to design banners, flyers, icons
and wayfinding. In the beginning, we designed flyers for
Komune before we get to go their sites.
On the day of site visit, we took the temporary constructional
lift that was outside of the building which was quite
terrifying. When we reached the site, we started to look at the
surroundings and understand the structure of the building. It
helped us to clarify what the designs should be making and
created in order to fit in the whole structure and theme as
well.
Throughout this project, I learnt that design is full of
variables and it should not be limited to a certain design
but think out of a box is what the design work most needed.
Being more careful to check the completed designs was one
of the lessons that I had after this Komune project.

Designing landing page, banners, personas and presentation
slides were the main tasks for this company projects. This
was the first project task that I got from Se Yin.
CADS’ s design style was totally different from my initial
design style so that I have done a lot of research and visited
their company webiste to get more understandings about
their brand styles and meanings behind.
For this projects, there might have a sudden urgent request
from clients to amend on the design and to be completed
within a certain time frame. It made me to be better in terms
of time management and setting up a working schedule for
this project. Prioritizing what task to be done first before
others has made me to be more effective in this company
project and this may shorten the duration needed for me to
accomplish urgent tasks in the future.
About CADS
CADS were the first in ASEAN to deliver Harvard Business
School’s Executive Program – Competing in Business
Analytics and Big Data as well as first ever collaboration with
Data Incubator New York, to deliver Data Science Enablement
in Malaysia.

This covid-19 really affect every single industry and most of
the people are working from home since the first MCO. Our
design industry is one of these work from home industries as
well.
Our company, LIE also being compliant to SOP and allowed
us to work from home every day after FMCO declaration. We
used to arrange and assign work to each other by texting in
our company whatsapp group. Se Yin, will also remind me
the deadline of every task and the task coming up next to be
submitted.
We have a meeting set on every friday via Google Meet to
discuss our process about tasks on hand and future progress
on a project. Driv normally shares his new design knowledge
to have us growing together and be better ones in this design
field.
For me, design industry doesn’t get affected in terms of
effectiveness and productivity since we do everything using
our own laptops. Work still goes on smoothly.

reflection

Throughout the whole internship, I found that the knowldege
and skills learnt from the past semesters are really useful
that out of my expectations. These skills made me being able
to catch up the pace and perform the tasks given by Driv and
Se Yin. Typography was the skill that I used the most for my
internship project tasks. Other than that, computer graphic
and illustration were widely used on designing webpages,
flyers and banners for my clients.
Furthermore, I really appreciate my hirer, Driv who showed his
unselfishness to me by teaching me pratical knowledge and
skills to be applied on everything related to design.
From this internship, I have learnt a lot of things that I
never had chance to learn before. The working spirits and
attitude of my colleagues towards really inspired me a lot and
slowly I turned out to be the same type of person after their
inspirations. They made me to be more passionate towards
graphic design and can’t even stop to thank them once again
for offering me an internship position.
Accepting me as an intern in LIE was a big recognition to
myself and a great milestone has been achieved here. I
strongly believe what I have learned here in terms of design
skills and attitude will make me to be a better designer and
have more breakthroughs in my career.
