The regional breakdown of my DNA lineage is as follows:

Southwestern Europe – 75%

Interestingly, Southwestern Europe may have been the last refuge of the Neanderthals, due to its relatively
sheltered position during the last glacial maximum. European hunter-gatherers also may have taken refuge
there 20,000 years ago. Eventually, the first farmers arrived in the region from the Eastern
Mediterranean, and these are the ancestors of the modern-day inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula and
neighboring regions. Connections across the Mediterranean, dating back to prehistory and down to the
medieval period, connect Iberians with other coastal peoples, especially groups in Northern Africa. Some
Southwestern Europeans also migrated across the Strait of Gibraltar, leading to a mutual genetic exchange.
This cluster was also the pioneer Explorer, the group that expanded over 500 years ago to the Americas, as the
Spanish and Portuguese established empires around the world.

Northwestern Europe – 17%

This region of Northern Europe is a biogeographical composite of populations that include British,
Scottish, Irish, Welsh, Northern French, Belgians, Dutch, Danish, and some Scandinavian and German
groups. So, much more than an established historical population, it is a prehistorical region characterized early
on by a long period of glaciation, with episodic habitation by hunter-gatherer groups migrating from the south
and east. With the advent of agriculture and the spread of plant domestication some 8,000 to 6,000 years ago,
the people of Northwestern Europe grew from the mix of the early settlers and new farmers. Over the last
4,000 years, the region became subdivided into the ethnic and political entities we now know. This
biogeographical region is seen in many people of European ancestry, as well as most people living in the U.S.,
Canada, and Australia today. It is also seen in small percentages in groups from Latin America, as well as in
countries that were part of the British Empire of the 18th and 19th Centuries.

Northeastern Europe - 7%

Hunter-gatherers were the first peoples to settle in Northeastern Europe, initiating a unique ancestry that would
be traced back to this region. The region stretches from Lapland to parts of Siberia to the east, and although
this cluster is genetically diverse, the root of many of these populations is a genetic signature found most
often in Finnish, Northern Russian, and some Baltic peoples. The first humans in the regions pushed into
the deep north only around 30,000 years ago, migrating to where no other Neanderthal had dared. The
northerners maintained long-term lateral connections and developed a coherence as the ice retreated, all the
while keeping in touch with populations in the south. Today, this ancestry is seen in Saami hunters and
fishermen, as well as Uralic, Russian, Finnish, and some Scandinavian peoples.

FAMILY’S FAVORITE RECIPES WINE RECIPE Susan Maher

SHERRY WINE One-quart grape juce 3 quarts water 1 package
of raisons 1 cake of yeast 2 lb Brown sugar 2
Susan Maher Leamons Power (pour) Boiling water over
15 lb Brown Sugar Raisons and sugar then add Leamons and grape
10 lb Seedless Rasins (Chopped) juce when cool add yeast let stand 18 days then
5 lb whole wheat & 5 large potatoes (chopped) Bottel Strain.
2 yeast cakes; put yeast in ¾ cup warm water
Add 2 teaspoons white sugar FROUT CAKE THAT BESSIE
And let raise. MAKES
Wash and chop the rasins.
Peel and chop the patatoes Susan Maher
Add 5 full gallon of luke warm water into crock. 1 lb Butter
Add Ingredients and then add yeast. 2 Lb Raisons
Stir and let stand for 3 weeks. Stirring once every 2 lb Currants 8 eggs
day. Strain. 4 Cups Brown sugar
2 ½ Lbs of Flower
CORN SALID Lemon Cimon nuts to tast
½ Cup Molases 1 Tes spoon soda

15 ears of corn
4 cucumbers MOM CALER’S STEAMED
2 green peppers PUDDING
1 small head cabbage
1 tabelspoon of salt Bessie Maher Caler
2 tabelspoons of celery seed (tied in cloth) 4 cups. Bread. Crumbs. Large. Cups.
Boil 30 minutes 1 teaspoon Soada. Level.
Sauce: 1 Qt vinegar ¼ teaspoon Cloves. Ground.
2 tabelspoons of Colman’s mustard ¼ teaspoon Cinimon
1 cup of flour ½ teaspoon Salt
2 cups of sugar ½ cups Milk
1 teaspoon of tuemric & 1 tsp of salt 1 Cup Molases
Boil until smooth. One Pk. Dates
Pour over Salid. Cook all together. One Pk rasins
Cup Sugar
One egg.

Steam 3 hours. Mary, if you want too. Cut up.
Green & Red. Cherries it makes look prettie

3 Cups flower. ½ cup margarine. Cream.
Currants to taste Blend in jar Kraft marshmallow cream.
1 pinch salt. Cream tarter & 3 table spoons sugar. 1 tablespoon milk & 1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons Lard & Baking Soda Equal parts Add 3 cups powdered sugar. Mix well.

FRENCH SILK PIE HOT RUM SAUCE

¾ cup sugar 1 cup sugar
¼ pound oleo. Cream very well. 1 tablespoon lemon rind
Add either one square baking chocolate or 3 ¼ 1 ½ cups boiling water
tablespoon cocoa and 1 teaspoon vanilla. 1 tablespoon butter
Continue beating. Add 1 egg. Beat at high speed 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
for 10 minutes. 3 tbs. Lemon juice
Add second egg. Beat 10 more minutes. ½ cup rum
Pour into 8-inch cooked pie shell. Combine sugar, lemon rind with water. Add
Chill well. May be frozen. Top with whipped butter. Heat to boiling. Mix cornstarch with
cream. juice. Add to mixture. Cook 8 minutes.
Remove. Strain. Add rum and salt.
FOOL-PROOF PIE CRUST

COOKIES

32 marshmallows 2 cups brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
¼ cup water 1 egg
1 cup sour cream
2 & 1/2 cups granulated sugar 1 cup buttermilk
1 cup shortening
¼ pound of butter 2 teaspoons soda
4 teaspoons vanilla
1 six-ounce can evaporated-milk 7-8 cups of flour—enough to roll

¼ teaspoon of salt Cut out cookies. Sprinkle with sugar.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes
½ cups of semi-sweet chocolate bits

¼ teaspoon salt.

. In top of double boiler, combine marshmallows & water.
Place over boiling water & cook until marshmallows
dissolve, stirring occasionally. In a large, heavy saucepan
combine sugar, butter, milk, & salt. Mix.. Bring to a rolling
boil over medium heat. Continue boiling 8 minutes,
stirring constantly to prevent sticking. Remove from heat
& stir in melted marshmallow mixture and chocolate bits.
Mix until thoroughly blended. Pour into greased pan.
Cool thoroughly & cut into squares. If desired, add 1 cup
chopped nuts, coconut, or glace’ fruit to the fudge before
pouring it in the pan.

CHEESE CAKE LEMON CHICKEN SOUP

Crust: 13 graham crackers 8 to 10 cups homemade chicken broth
¼ cup sugar 2 to 3 Shredded chicken breasts
Melted butter to hold Juice from 3 to 4 big lemons
Filling: 4 small packages of cream cheese 2 to 3 eggs whisked thoroughly
½ cup cugar 2 to 3 cups hot cooked rice or orzo.

Blend ingredients and pour into shell. Bake 20 minutes at
350degrees. Cool 20 minutes. Temper the eggs with some of the hot broth and add

1 package of peanut cookies
1 cup mashed sweet potatoes Grind cookies.
1 egg Measure 1 ½ cups crumbs
½ cup melted butter Stir in
1 cup sugar ¼ cup sugar
½ cup sweet milk 1 tablespoons of melted butter.
Mix well. Pat into 8” pyrex pie plate.
Mix sweet potatoes, eggs and melted butter with Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes.
