Season 18 Impact Report

An Annual Review of Your Impact

SEASON 18

JULY 1, 2017-JUNE 30, 2018

A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD CHAIR

Dear Friends,

I’m pleased to present our annual Impact Report summarizing the
activities of Season 18 at Greater Boston Stage Company. Enclosed
you will find the information you’ve come to expect in the Impact
Report, such as organization financials and a list of the names of
donors who made it all possible. But you will also find something
new—personal perspectives on what makes Greater Boston Stage
Company so special.

Live, professional theatre is but one piece of the artistic fabric that
makes our communities vibrant and improves both the social and
business welfare where we live and work. Our theatre brings people
into our community and helps build up the other organizations and
businesses in the area, too. When one is successful, others are able to
draw off that strength and also succeed and thrive.

Our Young Company stresses that good theatre makes good people.
I would add for all of us who have the opportunity to sit in the
audience and be immersed in its experience, good theatre makes us
better people.

I had a better understanding of another faith tradition after
experiencing Unveiled. I was better at moving beyond my own
comfort zone after seeing Calendar Girls. I got better at letting go
following Alligator Road.

As you read through the pages of this Impact Report, I invite you to
consider your reason for supporting the theatre, and how live theatre
has made you better. The next time you visit us, share it with our staff,
members of the Board of Trustees, or volunteers. Your unique voice
inspires us in our work to bring the best possible live professional theatre
and dramatic education to the communities in Boston’s Metro North.

Sincerely,

James E. Oosterman
President, Board of Trustees

is like coming home for the holidays!

As an actor, I am artistically challenged, inspired, and nurtured. Geater Boston
Stage Company has found a beautiful way to combine exceptional, professional
productions and the warmth of creating art with what feels like family.”

5 SHE LOVES ME (Nov. 24-Dec. 23, 2017) received rave reviews from critics.
“If the cast and design team of Greater Boston Stage Company’s She Loves Me happened
to be in the business of football instead of musical theater, they would be hoisting the
Super Bowl trophy for sure…Move over, Bill Belichick, and surrender your hoodie to
Ilyse Robbins as the creative leader of this team of champions.”

Accessibility Initiatives

Accessibility has been identified by
our Board of Trustees and staff as a
long-term institutional priority for
Greater Boston Stage Company.

Members of our staff and board participated in a
series of immersive workshops in universal design
principles through The Innovation and Learning
Network. Upon successful completion of these
workshops in June 2018, GBSC was proud to
receive the Mass Cultural Council’s Universal
Participation (UP) Designation, recognizing our
commitment to learn, take action, and embrace
inclusivity as a core institutional value.

During Season 18 we raised $30,000 from
grants, foundations, and individuals to fund
the installation of an ADA compliant accessible
entry way.

Michael and THE CAST OF SHE LOVES ME, AND THEIR DEAR FRIEND,
Donna Pisari DON FULTON, WHOSE WONDERS WILL NEVER CEASE.

Andrea Polcaro Our long-time friend Don Fulton passed away earlier this year, and we
will always be grateful for the legacy he left behind at Greater Boston
Ernest and Stage Company. In recognition of his one-million dollar planned gift
Janet Pouche to the theatre, we established the Don Fulton New Play Project, a
commitment to producing one world premiere play each year. Don was
Kenneth and a true believer in the mission of Greater Boston Stage Company, and we
Judy Proctor were pleased to present Alligator Road in Season 18 as the inaugural play
of the Don Fulton New Play Project.
Malinda Pulicari
Don’s favorite musical was She Loves Me, and he holds a special place in
Debralee Quinn the hearts of the cast and crew of this Season 18 production.
