Acting CEO - Martin Sam Solomon Power energising our nation 2ND QUARTER MESSAGE FROM ACTING CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER ( CEO) Greetings Solomon Power team for our 2023 second quarter Watts Up! The last three months of this year, saw SP’s resilience being put to test with the loss of 4 generators at Lungga Power Station and two (2) at the Honiara Power Station. As a result, SP had to implement Load shedding Schedules to manage the demand for power in Honiara and this has been the longest since 2012. Operationally, our generation capacity for Honiara is currently at 10.5MW and it will remain this way until all the faulty generators are back online. The Generation team has been very busy addressing technical issues in order to improve the current power situation in Honiara. Nonetheless, our customer numbers continued to pick up with the good work of the customer service, TD, Regulatory and OBA teams with a total of 26,162 customers at the end of June. It is pleasing to report that SP has for the first time celebrated the Line Mechanic day to show appreciation to our very hardworking Distribution team on the 18th of April 2023. It was held at the Kukum Campus field and many schools around Honiara were invited to come and see what the work of the line mechanics was all about. This quarter was also a trying time for the Solomon Power family, as we lost three colleagues. The late Donald Kiriau, CEO, the late Kenny Radave, Meter Engineer, and the late Stanley Suhara, Senior Properties Officer. Solomon Power will undoubtedly feel the loss of these wonderful men, leaders, and mentors. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families during this trying time. Solomon Islands will be hosting the Pacific Games in November of this year, and Solomon Power is playing its part by taking part in the Clean Up campaign organized by the Games committee as well as the Government. Solomon Power will ensure we are able to provide sufficient power to meet the power requirements of the event. This is the second issue of the Watts Up for this year and we look forward to one every quarter. With that, I would encourage us all to work diligently and smart especially during this trying time that we are all facing. Focus on our mission and vision. Please continue to keep safe. As one team SP, we will be able to overcome the challenges this year and emerge stronger and more resilient than ever! May God Bless Solomon Islands, May God Bless Solomon Power

BUSINESS CONTINUTY WORKSHOP Solomon Power Business Development Department, under the Planning and Capital Division, organized a Business Continuity Planning Workshop on the 24th and 25th of April with the purpose of "We will use sound risk management principles to manage the challenges that Solomon Power faces as an organization." The two-day training was led by Apollos Inasimae, Manager Business Development. The first day was primarily an introduction to BCM ideas and major parts of the BC cycle. The second day builds on the first by focusing on Business Impact Analysis (BIA) presentations and activities, BC Planning, BC Testing & Exercises, and BC Monitoring. The workshop covered a wide range of topics such as business continuity concepts, risk management, and so on. The workshop seeked to create a Business Committee Management Framework and establish procedures that will allow Solomon Power to respond to any event in such a way that critical operations continue with planned levels of interruption. The topics that the workshop addressed to further stir participants' interest were "Emergency response," which refers to the immediate response to a business-disrupting disaster (outage) and the protection of life and safety. “Crisis Management" involves performing actions to stabilize the event in order to prevent further escalation and implementing strategies to minimize loss or damage. "Business Continuity" involves the use of alternative processes, capabilities, and resources to ensure critical activities continue at acceptable service levels. A comparable approach was taken by Solomon Power in 2022 when community transmission of covid 19 hit the country, and Solomon Power responded by establishing an emergency response plan to maintain business continuity. For non-essential staff, for example, official work stops at 12pm on January 19th 2022. Solomon Power had restricted access to its main office, mandatory use of masks, and finally activated the Covid 19 policy, allowing a flexible work arrangement in which staff members can work from home. The Business Continuity Steering Committee (BCSC) was set up at the end of the workshop. The next step is for Divisional GMs and Department Managers to develop BC Plans for the Mission Critical Functions within their departments or processes. According to Mr. Inasimae, there are still activities that need to be addressed in terms of establishing a Business Continuity Management Framework, establishing a BC Management Structure for Solomon Power, and developing a BC Management Program Charter. The workshop help participants in identifying many risk factors that Solomon Power faces and in creating better strategies for managing those risks. The session was attended by 27 senior management staff, including 2 board members. Apollos Inasimae, Manager Business Planning, addresses workshop participants at Heritage Park during the Business Continuity Planning Workshop. Darwin Ririmae, Manager of Management Accounting, and Solomon Power Chief ICT Officer Ila Tura participated throughout the event. The two-day session on Business Continuity Planning was attended by two other senior Solomon Power managers, Dalton Maesia and Noal Quan.

Solomon Power is currently undertaking load shedding for its customers in Honiara. This commenced on May 17th 2023 and has continued until we went into print. This has really affected all our valued Honiara customers’ livelihoods and businesses. Furthermore, it has also affected residents and visitors to Honiara. Some of these include reduced service hours such ATMs being down, inability to provide hot drinks & food by coffee shops or kai bars as well as unfrozen goods in freezers, warm drinks in refrigerators and residents being unable to switch on TVs/air conditions/electric cookers & heaters or washing machines/driers anytime during the day or night as well as delayed manufacturing of goods. The load shedding is necessary as a result of Solomon Power’s inability to produce power to cater for customers’ demands and to ensure the power system remains stable. Solomon Power has 11 generators in Honiara with a total capacity of 25 MW. Currently, 6 generators are not working with various issues and only 5 generators are currently in operation. The 5 generators that are operating can only generate 10.3 MW. Honiara’s maximum demand is 16 MW. Therefore, it is estimated that there is a shortfall of 5.7 MW. Below is Solomon Power’s restoration plan update for Staff’s information only. As can be seen in the plan, load shedding is anticipated to continue until October with an easing of load shedding from August. The engineering team has been working tirelessly since May and will continue to do so in the upcoming months. The team is also in the process of procuring new containerized generators. This is referred to as “Emergency Generation Project” on the restoration plan. It is important to note, that as with any plans, it will be updated in the event of any circumstances beyond our control or any changes in delivery dates. Over the last two months, Solomon Power has held various press conferences & interviews regarding the issue at hand. Furthermore, we have continued to liaise with Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce to ensure our corporate/small to medium enterprises customers are kept abreast of the situation. We have utilized our facebook page for dissemination of load shedding notices and have also set up an email distribution list for our postpaid customers and have commenced with emailing our postpaid customers our load shedding notices. The Call Centre Team with support from engineering team through 166/167 being available 24/7 has continued to provide real time information to the many customers who called (NB we received more than 6000 calls in the month of May). We have also continued to dialogue with the Ministry of Mines, Energy & Rural Electrification & Ministry of Finance. Solomon Power Panelist briefing the media on the load shedding situation in Honiara on May 31st 2023. The Board & Executive Management would like to thank all the staff for their patience and understanding during this time. REMINDER - USE OF SP VEHICLES Dear all, This is to inform that the mid-year performance assessment will be further deferred to the end of this month July 31st 2023. Our observation thus far is that majority of staff are still not seriously taking the effort to complete their mid-year assessments. This is also for the departmental performance goals. This will be the last deferral. Droumand Rubert MESSAGE FROM GM CORPORATE SERVICES This email is to remind us all about the general use of SP vehicles. Usage of the vehicles are governed under the Fleet Policy. SP have used considerable amount of capital investments on vehicles, hence proper operations, care and maintenance is essential to protect these assets and avoid unnecessary expenses. However, it has come to our notice, that employees (with permit) driving SP vehicles are not really adhering to the Fleet Policy, particularly, driving within the speed limit. The Speed limit is 60km/hr. Beyond 60km/hr. is considered as over speeding. Our records shows very excessive speeding beyond 60km/hr. We are concerned with this. SP vehicles are restricted from over-speeding because it is dangerous as it can cause accidental damage to the vehicle, damage to other people’s properties and death or injury to other people or the driver. 1. Divisional/Departmental Managers: The vehicles assigned to your Division/Department are under your responsibility in terms of their operational management. That means managing the speed limits of the vehicles as well. Ensuring that your officer driving it must adhere to the speed limit. All Departmental Managers have been given access to the tracking system, so that you can track the movement of your vehicles. If you somehow, do not have access to the tracking system, please let me know or the Senior Fleet Officer (Alistair), so that access can be given to you. 2. Transport Committee: As part of managing continuous excess over speeding, we have decided to re-inforce the Transport Committee (Fleet Policy: Part 5). The Transport Committee will be responsible for dealing with and making decisions on the relevant penalties on drivers that over speed beyond the speed limit of 60km/hr. With effect from next week, Monday 6th February 2023, the Transport Committee will start dealing with drivers that are over speeding. Any Driver which appears in the tracking system to be speeding beyond 60km/hr. will be dealt with by the Transport Committee, and appropriate penalties will be taken against the driver. Managers, please inform your Drivers about this notice. Droumand Rubert MESSAGE FROM GM CORPORATE SERVICES REMINDER - USE OF SOLOMON POWER VEHCILE NOTICE: TO ALL SP HONIARA-BASED STAFF (SP VEHICLE USERS ONLY) This email serves to advice all SP Honiara-Based Staff who have access to SP Vehicle, that a new Fueling station has been identified and confirmed ready for use starting tomorrow Tuesday 11th July 2023. Good Morning All, We are pleased to inform you that the fibre issue at our Outstation offices in Malaita, Western and Choiseul Province has been restored by the Solomon Islands Submarine Cable Company yesterday. This means that the speed of all business applications should be now better than it was on satellite connectivity. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the temporary disruption of fibre service and we appreciate your patience and cooperation. We hope that this improvement will enhance your productivity and efficiency. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the ICT department. Thank you for your continued support. Julia Anisi - Network Support Engineer MESSAGE FROM INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY DIVISION FIBRE/SATELLITE OUTSTATION'S CONNECTION UPDATE
MESSAGE FROM GM CORPORATE SERVICES Dear All, The ICT team would like to update you on the fibre connection issue that we have reported earlier on 10th May 2023 that is affecting our offices in Malaita, Western and Choiseul Province. Unfortunately, the Solomon Islands Submarine Cable Company has not been able to fix the problem yet and that work at their end is still in progress. We apologize for the prolonged inconvenience and frustration this may cause. As a reminder, we are currently using our Internet Service Provider's (Telekom/Bemobile/Island Tech) satellite connection as a backup to maintain our internet access and communication. However, this connection is slower and less stable than the fibre connection, especially in bad weather conditions. You may still encounter some delays, interruptions or errors when using online applications, sending or receiving emails, or browsing the web. We will keep you informed of any progress or changes in the situation. The ICT team appreciates your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. The Call Center is set up especially for external incoming and outgoing (limited) calls only. We must all refer to the internal directory whenever we need to contact our colleagues in the office (Ranadi, ASB & Lunga). I would also like to remind us that the Call Center is responsible for receiving line faults, meter faults or any issues related to our business. Do ask our family members to call us on our direct lines or mobile phones. It has been brought to my attention that back office and frontline staff (including cashiers) have asked CC staff to send /text tokens, key changes & tamper resets on behalf of staff. This is not an issue however Call Center staff also have things to do therefore all should be responsible to respond to customers and colleagues as and when required without having to go through CC. On another note – please remind our staff not to ask CC staff to open the door for them after hours and on weekends. I hope this reminder is clear and do let me know if you want us to discuss this more. Kind Regards, Lyndel Silas CALLS TO CALL CENTER Kitchen: • Do not remove office kitchen utensils from our office kitchens. Please ask the housekeeping team if you would like to use them. • If you leave your frozen food inside our office provided deep freezers or refrigerators, please write your name on the plastics and do not leave them there for a long time.
