ATS 2022 Foreword
The Creative Process Journal for this semester in
the final year is meant to serve as both a reflection
in process and documentation of thoughts and
progress of both dissertation and studio projects,
because of the high connectivity in the nature of
both parts that would not make sense without the
presence of each other: which is why this version
of the CPJ is meant to include for processes and
feedbacks for both the dissertation module as
well as the studio module. The format of this
Creative Process Journal follows a chronological
order, in which it is intended to be read from start
to finish, sequentially. It will begin with the chosen
brief researches, followed by case studies, trial
and errors, then processes and feedbacks, and
finally the end results.

Duolingo has their own typeface: Feather

as well as the overall developed style of the

are inspired by their image of Duo; which
makes the entire font look more dynamic.
Their color palette consists of multiple bright

Contrasting colors are used in the characters

Duolingo uses. The owl, “Duo” represents the

In this section of the app, users can
choose the questions they want
to show in their “quiz”. as well as

are 5 main sections in this to cover
all the parts to introduce themselves
to their matches.

App Design
The “Find Friends” page will let
the users choose people they are
interested in learning language
together with, this is based on the
friends filter they applied. They can
see the language they are speaking
and want to learn,
After they matched with the person,
users need to complete all levels of
quiz the person has created about
themselves and their interests.
These quiz are personal and
created based on the categories in
the application.

App Design
Here is how the quiz look like, users
need to translate certain sentences
and words to the match’s native
language. The purpose of this
section is also to get to know the
person better.
ATS 2022 Once users finish all 5 levels they
will unlock the match’s profile and it
will appear on their friend list. After
this, they can compete with each
other in Duolingo games.

App Design
The town is a leaderboard for the game, compete with friends in the app. Bigger/taller building
means higher rank. In order to have a higher rank users need to win games from other players.
This layout of the leaderboard makes the overall look more fitted to the target audience, as it
is less formal and more playful.

Advertising
The design for the advertisement has a bright
colour scheme to it, making the vibe of the page
itself more lively. I also played around with the
pattern that segments the title and the contents
for the landing page. This layout makes the
overall look more fitted to the target audience,
as it is less formal and more playful.
The advertisement for the application, it will be
in places in common traffic for students such as
subway and bus stop.

ATS 2022 Feedbacks
The pages are all very easy to follow and is
getting there with the contents and the design.
The colours are also very uniformed and there
is a clear colour scheme in every page. Next
thing to start working on is the prototyping of
the app and creating a simple case video on
how the app works and how each page will be
used by the users. Just a simple demo to help
others understand how the app works.
Reflection
I need to work on the aesthetics of the app
and make sure to design all the pages from the
wireframe. Remove any unnecessary pages as
it can get quite confusing for the user in the
long run and also think about how I want to
present it to the audience walking by.

Case Video Storyboard

ATS 2022 Feedbacks
I told Rachel my first idea, of what I want to
make on Term 2. I am still not sure how I am
going to execute it but I know I want to make
a game. either it’s online or offline. Rachel
suggested to look for AR map journey and
make a storyline and mission. It can be talking
to several people, different quests. She also
recommend me to look through similar game
app such as Elevate.
Reflection
After the first round of open critique session,
I decided to do more reasearch on multiplayer
game, knowing the detailed of the briefs
and having established an earlier system
of working in term one had allowed for a
smoother transition of working styles and
formats this term. It definitely will speed up
the working process and time allocation to the
tasks at hand.
