April showers bring May flowers to JVS Westwood Elementary School Glow Art

Things are glowing at Wellington’s
Westwood Elementary School. The stu-
dents recently completed several days of
glow in the dark art projects and lessons.
On Day 1, the students visited different
art centers, where they experimented with
different items and how they glow in the
dark. They learned about chemicalumi-
nescent glow sticks and how heat effects
the brightness. Students then used their
glow sticks to create sea creatures out of
homemade play dough that glowed in the
dark.
The second lesson was to create geo-
metric 2D and 3D shaped buildings with
sticks and clay. A third lesson had the stu-
dents creating bubble art and a painting
of fish.
Day 2 featured Biolumenescent ocean
animal art lessons. All grades learned
about the different environments within
the ocean (sunlight, twilight and midnight

The Free Fishing Days weekend offers Ohioans of all ages
the chance to experience the fun of catching a fish. Here are
some helpful tips for taking a youngster out fishing:
•Keep the trip simple by considering a child’s age and skill
level.
•Choose a pond, lake or stream where children will be able
to easily catch a few fish.
•Use live bait to increase the chance of catching a fish. Live
bait is also more interesting for children.
•Bring a camera and snacks.
•Be patient - plan on spending time untangling lines, baiting
hooks, landing fish and taking pictures. Spring Special
•Most of all, keep the trip fun.
Anglers 16 years and older are required to have a valid fish-
ing license to take fish, frogs or turtles from Ohio waters when
not fishing on Ohio’s free fishing weekend. Fishing licenses are
available from participating agents and at wildohio.gov.
