Belden Historical Society program
The history of Belden’s one room schoolhouse (built in 1888), that was put on hold, will be
presented on November 12, at 2 p.m. at the Grafton Twp. Fire Hall. Refreshments will be served.
Miss Kelsey Sizemore will be the presenter; she is a history major in historic preservation at
Ursuline College and is well versed in the history of our one room schoolhouse.
The museum, built in 1867, is older than the schoolhouse. On April 15, 1867, from the Ohio
House of Representatives, S.B. #429 was passed to authorize the Trustees and board of education
of Grafton Twp. to levy a tax to build a schoolhouse and town hall at the center. There is more to
the story, so please come and “hear the rest of the story.”
Public Zoning meeting
The Grafton Township Zoning Commission will hold a public zoning meeting at 7 p.m. on
Tuesday, November 15, at the Grafton Township Hall, located at 17109 Avon Belden Road. The
Zoning Commission will review issues and concerns as they come up.
MHS students participate in College & Career Fair
and Professional Development Day
Midview High School hosted a combined College and Career Fair and Student Professional
Development (PD) Day, which immersed students in a day of professional and personal explo-
ration. “Providing students with 21st-century skills and knowledge to succeed in college and
careers is a key focus at Midview High School,” said Midview High School Principal Brian
Siftar. “In addition to providing unique educational pathways and offering numerous College
Credit Plus and Advanced Placement courses, we continue to explore opportunities that help
students feel prepared and supported as they consider future plans.”
Over 35 colleges and universities, several career-based vendors, and all military branches
were in attendance during the College and Career Fair to answer questions and provide infor-
mation on their respective institutions or trade. The PD portion of the day, created in response to
feedback from a student advisory team, was added to promote wellness and further foster staff
and student connections. Over thirty staff and administrators rose to the challenge of creating
their very own PD session around a life skill or interest. Each student then chose ten sessions
to participate in, ranging from cupcake decorating to tire changing and taekwondo to salsa
dancing.
Administration plans to gather feedback from students and staff to gauge success and further
improve the experience should this become an annual event. As of now, the high school is look-
ing to continue the combined College and Career Fair and Student PD Day as a part of its focus
on social-emotional learning and college and career readiness.

LEAF PICK UP IN EATON TOWNSHIP
Eaton Township: Our Road & Bridge crew will pick up roadside from
from Monday, October 24 to Wednesday, November 30. Visit our website
/ Face-book page for more information. www.eatontownship.org
Residents can help to ensure that the collection process runs smoothly by
following these simple rules:
• Place only leaves in the leaf piles. Other forms of yard waste such
as: rocks, tree branches, twigs, flowers, straw, corn stalks, weeds, fruit,
animal feces, walnuts, and grass clippings slow the collection process
and damage township equipment.
• Leaf piles should be placed at your curb (without obstructing traffic).
Leaves should NOT be piled behind parked vehicles or near the storm
drain. Property owners without curbs may pile their leaves as close to
the street as possible, but should never be placed in the street. Township
vehicles will not leave the paved area, so make sure your leaves are
stacked within 5 feet of the curb. If we cannot reach the leaves, we
cannot pick them up.
• Do NOT pile leaves closer than 4 feet to mailboxes, signpost and other
objects.
• Do NOT bag leaves
• Do NOT pile leaves in ditches or over catch basins or risers - This may
cause flooding.
Uncontrollable conditions such as equipment breakdown, bad weather
and/or emergency work make it difficult to know what day the
township will be there to collect leaves. The leaf vacuum machines are
unable to pick up leaves that have become frozen to the ground or are
exceptionally heavy from water. Freezing rain, sleet or snow will halt the
vacuum collection of leaves. We will cover all areas of the Township -
