Garden Club installs Beehives Opiate Overdose Response Team

connects overdose survivors to treatment

The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office has been operating an
Opiate Overdose Response Team (O.O.R.T.) with their part-
ner, The LCADA Way, for the past several months. The team is
comprised of a Deputy and a Counselor who visit an overdose
survivor about seven days after their overdose to engage the
family and share treatment information. From a law enforce-
ment perspective, the importance of this “welfare check” re-
inforces the idea that law enforcement “does care and wants
to see the survivor get into treatment,” says Lt. Koubeck who
coordinates the team. The O.O.R.T. concept stems from a quick
response model adapted from Colerain Township in southern
Ohio. While the LCSO’s team approach is not necessarily iden-
tical to other models operating throughout Lorain County or
Ohio, Lt. Koubeck underscores the fact that regardless of the
model, “we are making a difference and survivors and their
family members appreciate our efforts.” The Sheriff’s Office

in one of the eighteen townships of Lorain County.
O.O.R.T member Deputy Jason Zsebik, a ten-year veteran
of the LCSO, has conducted several visits and reports how ap-
preciative family members are to the visit sharing, “families are
very receptive to our visit and are happy we are doing this.” Zse-
