Sheriff’s Auxiliary Training Class

Sheriff Phil R. Stammitti is proud to announce the next training class for the Sheriff’s Auxiliary. The class is tenta-
tively scheduled to begin on January 15, 2019.
The Sheriff’s Auxiliary was organized in 1957. Over the years, the Auxiliary has proven to be a dedicated and ef-
ficient volunteer organization. The Auxiliary is composed of volunteers whose objective is to augment the strength of
the Sheriff’s Office and be a supplement to the regular staff of Deputies and Correction Officers. The class is open to
all persons who are 19 and older, have a high school diploma, are citizens of the United States and are of impeccable
character. Columbia Firefighters dressed up in firefighting gear during a

New pavilion for Grafton Township Park Submit a drink to the 2018 Zero-Proof Mix Off

At the 17th annual Zero-Proof Mix Off, a public, no-cost event, attendees sample ze-
ro-proof concoctions while increasing their awareness of sober driving and zero-proof
drink options. Businesses, agencies, bartenders, student clubs and other groups that want
to enter a drink into this competition may apply at LorainCountyHealth.com by Wednes-
day, November 7. Twenty-two applications will be accepted. Nearly 500 people typically
attend the Zero-Proof Mix Off every year. To participate, simply apply, then create and
serve a zero-proof drink. Judges choose the best drinks based on taste, presentation and
creativity.
This year, the Zero-Proof Mix Off is on Thursday, December 6, at the Lorain County
Community College Spitzer Conference Center, 189 Innovation Dr., in Elyria. Mixers
may set up as early as 3:30 p.m. and judging begins at 5 p.m. The public arrives at 5:30
p.m. and the event lasts until 7:30 p.m. The Lorain County Safe Community Coalition,
conducted through Lorain County Public Health, hosts this event to increase awareness of
sober driving and zero-proof options. After the Zero-Proof Mix Off, all drink recipes from
participating groups will be featured in a recipe book that can be picked up at no-cost at
local Discount Drug Mart locations.
