The Raider Nation was awarded to Kim Schwartz for her
dedication and service to the District this year. Board member
Nemeth said the Columbia Township Historical Society hosted
two ?eld trips this past school year for the 3rd and 5th grades.
The Superintendent announced two teachers are planning a
European Educational Tour set for high school students of the
2016/17 school year. This is not a Columbia School District func-
tion and the district is under no ?nancial obligation or liability for
this trip. The Superintendent solely wishes to make students and
chaperones aware of it early to enable those interested to start
saving now. Anticipated costs are around $4,045 up to $5,000/
per person - details will be made available at a later date.
The District had recently requested bids from 5 local general
contractors to take on the district projects for the stadium and
building renovations. Of the 5 local general contractors, 4 have
declined to bid or not returned the Superintendent’s calls. The
Board discussed with the Superintendent about the district taking
on pieces of the project and hiring subcontractors, speci?cally
relative to the ADDA and EPA compliant matters. This action
is solely to attempt to get the projects moving and meet planned
deadline.
The District has been told that the Columbia Township Trust-
ees are ready to begin discussion for use and renovation of one
of the township facilities for maintenance of the district’s equip-
ment and storage.
Brassell said the Columbia Foundation has approved a grant
of $3,900 for the District for upgrading locks for the schools, and
a separate $1,000 grant. The Board approved the book bills for Thiry-Eight members of the Columbia High School Class of 1965 rekindled friendhips and 50 years of memories at the Co-

Lorain Library System
Summer Reading Program

The Lorain Public Library System’s Summer Reading Pro-
gram is for all ages. The 2015 theme is “heroes.” From super-
heroes to everyday heroes, it’s going to be a fun, educational
summer.

Win Books! - Summer Reading participants, birth through
12th grade, will earn a free book for every four hours of reading.
Score up to ?ve new books this summer! Stop by your library to
pick up a reading record with instructions, or print one online at
LorainPublicLibrary.org/Summer-Reading-Program.

Did you know that being read to also counts toward read-
ing credit? Reading to someone or listening to audiobooks gets
all listeners closer to each reading goal. Once you read for four
hours, bring your reading record to the library, turn in your read-
ing slip and choose one book as a prize.

Adults are encouraged to get in on the action too. Each library
has its own unique adult Summer Reading Program. Contact
your library for details.

Last year, over 2,000 teens and children participated in the
Lorain Public Library System’s Summer Reading Program. Their
combined efforts added up to over 36,000 hours of reading! Over
700 adults read more than 6,000 books. Congratulations to all!
Help make this year a success too.
