th
on February 4!
Leona was the daughter of Edward and Flossie Wise.
Their home was at 1028 Main Street, in Grafton. Leona
graduated from Grafton’s original Chestnut Street School
in 1932 with the title of “Lorain County Schools Number
1 Violinist,” and was given a seat in the all Ohio School
Orchestra.
Following business school training, Leona worked in
the Grafton Citizen Newspaper office. In 1936, as the
new Elm Street School was built, Leona, with owner/edi-
tor George R. Frank, wrote a fifty-one page history of the
Grafton Schools from 1849-1936. When school opened,
Leona served as school secretary. Leona joined the staff
of the Grafton Savings and Banking Company, became
Mr. Reese’s secretary and assistant cashier for over 30
years. Leona was a 75-year member of the Eastern Stars
and member of the Grafton Methodist Church.
Married to Ivan Fischer, Leona joined her husband,
a printer, in his Grafton Printing business in the brick
building next to the post office. After retirement, the
couple traveled to Germany and also spent time on our
northeastern coast.
As time passed, Leona realized it was time to move on.
After selling her home, she moved to Keystone Pointe, in
LaGrange, six years ago.
Ohio Valley Group took 3rd Place in the large garden display at the IX Center’s Home & Garden Show. The garden was
designed by local landscaper Jay Schwartz, of Columbia Station. Happy Birthday, Leona!
