TAG's PDF Newsletter for September to December 2019

Keywords: Marc Bolan,T.Rex,Shrine,Barnes,London,Glam,Tree,TAG,Bronze,Bust

This Members Newsletter has been a long time coming and is the last TAG will be publishing. We
plan to go back to updating the site with links to ‘Marc Spotting’ rather than putting them into these
newsletters. Below is a copy of the text from today’s (24th December 2019) website update, so it is
archived here as well as on the ‘Main Page’, which will become ‘archived’ as ‘2019 News’ in the
New Year.

Fee had been pondering on this for many months, because she felt guilty that people weren't
getting the value-for-money they had previously enjoyed as Club Members. Fee carried the guilt
for this because as many people know I am dyslexic so all the typing has to be done by Fee. I do
the video editing; scanning and I upload images etc., to our Facebook page and group.
As well as writing the web updates – still in html - Fee writes the Club Members PDF’s, which I
then read and dictate changes while Fee acts as ‘secretary’. I do this because in the past people
have ‘gone for’ Fee for content, so the aim of myself taking the ultimate editorial role was so that if
anyone wanted to pick on anything – they had to contact me – not Fee. Oddly, people didn’t seem
to want to do this.
Fee also deals with all the images, including creating the ones used for our fundraisers, etc. Since
2012 when we started publishing Club Members PDF’s Fee has screen captured hundreds of
articles about Marc and T.Rex and once ‘pasted’ together they have been ‘pasted’ into ‘Word’ so
that if the original web site disappears there has been a permanent record in the Members PDF
Newsletters.

Since both Fee and myself started suffering from serious bouts of illness in 2018 and throughout
2019, trying to keep up with web site dates to keep members happy had become a drain on Fee’s
time, her physical health, and recently her mental health too. It is time consuming for Fee to
manually add members to the Server System, News Bulletin provider and our own database, and
then to reverse those actions if they don’t renew, because for it to be automated would incur costs
meaning that TAG would have to put prices up – or not give away bonuses.

Therefore, as Fee’s husband for forty years I have agreed that it is prudent, given our continuing ill
health, and with Fee needing several general anaesthetic operations in 2020 to open up the
Members Site and to stop taking subscriptions which puts Fee under ‘pressure’ to try and keep up
the output for the members site so you all have, what she feels is “full value-for-money”. It will take
time to remove pages no longer needed, and hopefully during 2020 Fee will be able to sort out the
pages which have not been linked together so many of those pages have become ‘lost’ in amongst
the website.

If any members don’t feel they have received value-for-money for their membership, you can
request a refund – provided your full membership pack is returned in ‘as new’ condition.
Otherwise, we hope that you will consider the content of the site, and the Bonus Gifts you have
received do offer you value-for-money.

Fee issued this statement to people who had subscribed to buy a copy of her Steve Took
Biography – Second Edition, because the First Edition sold out in record time. The Second Edition
should have been published in October 2019.

“Dear Subscribers,
I am so sorry to have to let you know that the Second
Edition of Steve Took's Hardback Book will not be
published until February 2020. I am currently lightening my
workload because both my husband Kevin and I suffered
from some serious bouts of illness through 2019, which
have left me unable to do everything I was scheduled to do.
As soon as New Year is over, I will be able to work on
completing the corrected manuscript to go to be published,
because I do not want to do last time and that was rush it
so it went to press with grammatical errors and sections
of text, which either repeated, or in at least one place
stopped mid-sentence.
If you didn't pledge, don't worry, copies of the Second
Edition will be available at the full RRP of £25.99 and
these will be available as soon as your books have been
sent to you. Many Thanks, Fee xx”

We have produced a Gallery of photos from our last visits to Marc’s Shrine last month (November
2019). When we have time we will be adding an article with further photos from that visit on some
of the things, which go on at the shrine, done by fans which cause us problems and which give us
extra work to do. This hasn’t been finished yet due to time limitations and the need for the wording
of the article to be carefully thought through so that the people in question don’t ‘take it the wrong
way’ and start anything ‘silly’ against TAG as happened previously when ‘fans’ have ‘taken matters
into their own hands’ when it comes to doing ‘things’ at Marc’s Shrine without asking TAG’s advice
and therefore without understanding the problems they cause or the damage they do when they
act quote: “with our heart and not our head” as one fan said recently.

More Steve Took? This article originally appeared in ‘Rumblings’ – published by The Tyrannosaurus Appreciation
Society/The Bolan Society. The article was recently scanned and republished in a Tyrannosaurus Rex Facebook
Group. Fee’s reply was posted as a response to the scan, to set the record straight, so Yes, more Steve Took
because it seems appropriate to archive the correct information here.

Regrettably the last section is false. There was no need for Susan (and friends) to fund raise for a Headstone and I'm
interested to read the follow-up article.
Yes Steve Took did not have a headstone. Steve's grave plot was owned by his last girlfriend Sam who went to live in
Scotland not long after Steve died and lived the rest of her life as "Sam Took" giving people the impression they were
married - she was I guess the first female to 'fib' about Took. Susan Hibberd was the second.
All Susan actually did was contact Steve's older brother who, living near Cornwall didn't visit London and was unaware
that Sam hadn't got Steve a headstone. As soon as he heard he agreed to pay for the Headstone and effectively gave
Susan a 'blank cheque' to go and order whatever she wanted - which she did. Therefore it was FULLY PAID FOR by
Steve's BROTHER BRUCE* and NOT in ANY way by Susan Hibberd.

To make matters even worse, in 2003 Susan was paid £2,500** in royalties for the original Cleopatra release of
'Missing Link to Tyrannosaurus Rex' meaning that Steve Took's closest family - His Son Luke and his granddaughter
Paris received NOTHING. NOT ONE PENNY in royalties - not even the song-writing royalties because Cleopatra did
not credit anyone with having written the songs so they did not pay the proper royalties, which would and should have gone
to Steve's family.
Everyone in the 'Bolan Scene' will know how Rolan Bolan, Harry Feld and Marc's parents all suffered at the hands of
people who pocketed Marc's royalties, and many of Marc' fans have said how disgusting they found it. I am in agreement
with them, not only on Marc Bolan's behalf - but on Steve Took's side too.
* When I took Susan to meet Keith Morris the photographer to select photos of Steve from his collection she said on
tape that the headstone cost £2,500 and that it was "money very well spent". She gave the impression it was *her
money* from *her savings*. That 'fib' became *fact' when it was circulated widely.
** Ironically this means that Susan could have used this £2,500 from the royalties to pay for Steve's Headstone as
she had been telling people she had done. As it was she kept it and used it for her own purposes.

We do still get charged fees for ‘Promoted Listings’ and Pay Pal charge us for eBay sales. Even so, this is a
great saving for us.

Amy is the wife of Danny Bonaduce – probably most famous for being in the Partridge Family with
David Cassidy. Danny visited Marc’s Shrine in 2018, and retweeted her photos from that visit to
marc Marc’s 42nd anniversary.
This photo was taken two years ago, but as we’ve only recently started really using Instagram we
only recently spotted it so we thought we’d share it with you.

Here is a Photo Booth photo of
me taken in London in October
1978 during the time I was
stopping round at a Bolan fan's
flat in Fulham. I was dressed like
this when I met Steve Peregrin
Took. I have included the text of
my handwritten badge, which
basically said it all for me then!
No wonder when I didn't
recognise Tooky and asked him if
he knew Steve Took, he didn't
tell me who he was. He just said
he knew him "very well!"

How stupid did I feel when I
realised (too late) the busker I
met really was the man I was
looking for. My life, for better or
worse would have been so very
different had I realised who he
was. If Kevin hadn't asked me to
marry him I was planning on going
back to London permanently
where I would probably have
figured out that the guy I met who
knew Steve Took "very well!"
was the man I sought.

But then how different life would
have been if the penny had
dropped with my husband-to-be
Kevin if he'd put two and two
together and realised the biker in
the shades who was pointed out
to him as "Tooky" was not only "A Pink Fairy" and "He's a Ten Tab Man" which is how he was described by a fellow Biker
Zoony (in awe), but was also Marc Bolan's original partner - Steve Peregrin Took. By the time that penny dropped
Tooky had died …

Boy was I angry when I found out that we could have simply gone to London to visit Kevin's friends and there Tooky would
have been!

Darn It ... Those two events will always haunt me.

My hair is what is left of my completely ruined Bolaneque Perm. I had it done, and came straight out of the hairdressers
and put my full-face crash helmet on. That was a very silly thing to do when you have 'perm resistant' hair anyway!

Fee — feeling nostalgic.

So as we close down these Members PDF Newsletters, here are some scans from various Magazines
including the US magazines ‘Circus’ and ‘Creem’.

Marc and the press – 1973 

In the UK this was released by Fly as a budget release, also a double album that reached #1 in the UK Album Charts

These is no mention of the Official Marc Bolan Fan Club – by name in this article. Some saw them as being
focussed on the ‘glam’ years. There is a ‘dig’ at the ‘Music Release’ part of the OMBFC in part two of this
article, reproduced overleaf. Fee is pleased to note that she was one of the many donors to the appeal for the
original round Memorial Plaque at Golders Green Crematorium.

Just as in the article, these is no mention of the Official Marc Bolan Fan Club in the ‘Blow By Blow’ Issue 1,
although the details for both the ‘Marc Bolan Liberation Front’ and The Tyrannosaurus Rex Appreciation
Society are included along with details of the fanzine Gypsy Explorer.

This was written in the early 1990’s and therefore various things associated with Gary Glitter were not known at
the time and he regularly held Christmas Concerts.

LOFTY SKIES ABOVE BARNES
by JIRI DUBSKY, OLOMOUC , CZECH REPUBLIC

The noble clouds float through the blue sky,
high above the shrine where the star went out

And a British rock elf MARC BOLAN.

His singing and music pleased and touched the hearts,
Waterfalls of his rich hair fluttering

in the rhythm of the thundering guitars.
Dreamy look of his eyes and his sweet smile,

God, so sweet !

The tears of his fans shine in the morning dew
under the branches of a tree,
where his life journey ended.

A London boy of small stature longed to touch the sky,
his music made him immortal and great !

Butterflies in the midday glow
kissing the scent of flowers,

with the colours of glam rock on its tender wings.
Quiet landscape near Barnes,
where noble clouds float.

Swirling glittering wings of butterflies
is a summer glam-rock festival

above a shrine with a bronze bust of rock legend.
A white swan flies high in the clouds,
ridden by cosmic dancer MARC .

He dances in the clouds
high above the pilgrims´ heads
who came to the shrine to honour his memory.
You never died MARC - you will live forever
in the hearts of loyal fans in the whole world !

Amen .
