TOPIC 1 : BULLYING

A very good morning to the honourable judges, teachers and my fellow
friends. It really gives me great pleasure to deliver you a speech on ‘Bullying’.
Bullying is an aggressive behaviour that is intentional and involves an imbalance
of power or strength. It is a repeated behaviour and can be physical, verbal, or
relational. Bullying has been part of school, and even workplaces, for years.
More recently, though, technology and social media have created a new
venue for bullying that has expanded its reach. Cyberbullying is bullying that
happens online and via cell phones. Websites like YouTube, Instagram and
Snapchat allow kids to send hurtful, ongoing messages to other children.

Preventing and stopping bullying involves a commitment to creating a
safe environment where children can thrive, socially and academically, without
being afraid. Researchers recommend that teachers, parents and students
need to take some necessary actions to address bullying.

Firstly, teachers and administrators need to be aware that although
bullying generally happens in areas such as the bathroom, playground,
crowded hallways, and school buses as well as via cell phones and computers
(where supervision is limited or absent), it must be taken seriously. Teachers and
administrators should emphasize that telling is not tattling. If a teacher observes
bullying in a classroom, he/she needs to immediately intervene to stop it, record
the incident and inform the appropriate school administrators so the incident
can be investigated.

Secondly, students and parents need to be a part of the solution and
involve in safety teams and antibullying task forces. Students can inform adults
about what is really going on and also teach adults about new technologies
that kids are using to bully. Parents, teachers, and school administrators can help
students engage in positive behaviour and teach them skills so that they know
how to intervene when bullying occurs.

Apart from that, schools and classrooms must offer students a safe
learning environment. Teachers and coaches need to explicitly remind students
that bullying is not accepted in school and such behaviours will have
consequences. Creating an anti-bullying document and having both the
student and the parents/guardians sign and return it to the school office helps
students understand the seriousness of bullying.

Bullying should never be considered as part of growing up. It is an abuse
of our human rights with far-reaching consequences for the students, their
families, peers and the community around them. Children who are victimized or
bully other children are at risk for emotional, behavioural and relationship
problems. They will require support from adults to help them develop healthy
relationships in school and throughout their lives.

To sum up with everything, we should not forget that everyone has the
right to feel safe and happy. It’s time for all bully to understand that their act is
not doing any better but hurting others, and they should stop for the betterment
of a safe and healthy society. Thank you.

TOPIC 2 : HOW TO LEAD A HEALTHY LIFE

Thank you to the Master of Ceremony. Friends, let us ponder for a moment
about some of these startling statistics. Did you know that statistically, Malaysia is
the most obese country in Asia with an obesity rate of more than 45.3 per cent?

Those were the findings from British medical journal, The Lancet, which
also showed that 49 per cent of women and 44 per cent of men in this country
were found to be obese.

A very good morning to the honorable judges, respected time keepers,
teachers and my fellow friends. My name is _________________ and I am standing
here today to deliver a speech entitled “How to Lead a Healthy Life”. I do not
profess to expert on this subject, but I will try to shed some light on this matter.

What is healthy living? According to World Health Organization (WHO),
healthy living is a way of living that lowers the risk of being seriously ill. To obtain
healthy living is not easy. We have to work hard to get it.

There are several ways one can lead a healthy life. Among the ways are
having a proper diet, having enough sleep, having enough exercise and also a
proper time management.

‘So before I go on, let us see the ways to get a proper diet. Our diet
should follow the food pyramid. We should eat sufficient carbohydrates such as
rice, bread and noodles. We must eat plenty of vitamins such as fruits and
vegetables. We should also eat proteins such as fish, meat and chicken, but in
moderation. We shouldn’t eat fatty and greasy foods such as junk food, butter
and margarine. If we follow this healthy eating effectively, we will get a lot of
good and rewarding benefits.

Another way that we should practice is eating at the right time. How
many of us have breakfast in the morning? Not many, right as we are all too
busy trying to make it to school on time. This is wrong because breakfast gives us
energy to start a fresh day. If we do not have breakfast in the morning, we will
feel very tired and sleepy. In fact, some cultures advocate breakfast as the most

important meal of the day. Without a proper breakfast, our concentration span
will also reduce, thus making us unable to comprehend what is taught in class.

We should get enough sleep every day. I am not hinting to my friends to
take forty winks when they are in class. An average child needs at least 8 hours
of sleep. For example, if we wake up at 6am, we should sleep at 10pm every
night. What will happen if we do not get enough sleep? Well, for sure we will
feel very sleepy and unable to comprehend what is taught in class, thus making
us to lose out.

We must get enough exercise time every day. How many of us exercise
every day? I am afraid to admit that I am also one of the guilty ones who fall in
this category. We should exercise because when we sweat, the fats in our
bodies will break. Our exercise routine should consist of a variety of activities
such as running, games like football, netball, tennis and swimming so that we
don’t get bored with the same activities.

If you follow my suggestions to lead a healthy life, I am sure we can build
a healthier Malaysia. Jim Rohn was quoted that, take care of your body. It’s the
only place you have to live in’. With that, I end my speech.

TOPIC 3 : SMART PHONES AND THEIR HARMS TO CHILDREN

We are now living in a modern era where technologies play important
roles in our daily lives. One of them is a smart phone. It is designed to suit our
modern and rushing lives in which we can do just about anything, anytime and
anywhere. But the question is, do we know that this smart phone has negative
effects in our lives especially children?

Good morning to the honourable judges, respected time keeper, aspiring
teachers, passionate opponents and supportive audience. I, ________________
(YOUR NAME) will present to you, SMART PHONES and THEIR HARMS TO
CHILDREN.

Ladies and gentlemen, friends and teachers, when we talk about smart
phones, we will think about games. Not one, two or three, but a lot of games
are for the pleasure. It has become a habit to play games using smart phones
whenever we are free. Some of the famous games are Minecraft and Among
Us. These games cause the children to become addicted. Once addicted, they
won’t stop playing and end up using all their free times with smart phones. Thus,
this will affect their performance in examinations and without a doubt playing
games using smart phones harm the children’s performance in education.

Dear audience, smart phones too affect the children’s attitudes. An
investigation by CNN confirmed that smart phones are addictive and changed
the users’ attitudes into antisocial. For example, relatives and friends meet up
during big celebrations to bond. However, they are no longer interested in
bonding anymore because they are too busy playing games using their smart
phones. This kind of attitude contributes to non-active lifestyle as the children will
sit while playing games. From that, we know that smart phones harm the
children’s attitude from being active to antisocial and non-active.

Ladies and gentlemen, another crucial effect to children is on their social
relationships. With the applications like Facebook and Instagram, they like to
update their feelings almost every day using their smart phones. However, the
problem occurs when the status that they post are mostly aggressive and
sensitive. They display their unsatisfied feelings to the world .These are read by
people especially friends and families. What do you think the readers will feel
when they read these kinds of status? Definitely, these aggressive whining ruin
relationships and turn friends into enemies. It is clear that smart phones with a lot
of applications harm the children’s relationships.

Dear teachers and friends, as I have discussed, it is important for us to
know that smart phones bring harms to children. Therefore, I would like to remind
young children to limit the usage of smart phones. As for parents, monitor the
usage of smart phones among children so it will not give bad effects to children.
For that, I end my speech. Thank you.
