Greek Unity: Bridging the Gap

Nu Sigma Kappa Fraternity, Inc. is committed to bridging
the gap in the LGBT Greek community. With the amount
of LGBT Fraternities and Sororities that exist the ability to
reach our full potential as a whole starts by utilizing our
strength in numbers with UNITY as the key. LGBT
Greeks are full of diversity and each organization was
uniquely designed to bring a different attribute to the table.
We would like to focus on bringing those attributes togeth-
er to impact our communities.
There are several areas for opportunity to accomplish suc-
cessful results. Each organization has the ability to be a
part of this dynamic movement. You ask yourself, how
can I make an impact? It is simple; promote Greek Unity
within your organization. Look for opportunities to work
with organizations that you have never or may not work
with often. Most importantly develop and display a mutual
respect for all organizations. So often you hear so much
negativity within the LGBT Greek community that takes
away from the ability to work together. It does not matter how many members you have or how long you
have been in existence we have to suppress the negativity and channel that same energy into a positive light.
Although each organization has their individual areas of focus we are all ultimately striving for the same com-
mon goal.
Nu Sigma Kappa Fraternity, Inc. plans to open 2017 with various Greek unity community service initiatives.
As a new organization we look forward to networking with other organizations near and far. We have had the
privilege to work with various organizations recently and the UNITY displayed was monumental. These or-
ganizations put their resources together and made a huge impression on the community.
We want to thank all the organizations that have paved the way and continuously lent your hand to show
support. We all have one common goal and that
is the BETTERMENT of all communities. We are
a Movement by ourselves but a FORCE when we
are together.

Black Single Mothers and the Child Welfare System examines the struggles women of color face in work-
ing with the child welfare system and how social workers who investigate childhood abuse and neglect can
effect positive change. This book addresses intersectionality and ideological, institutional, interpersonal, and
internalized oppression and how it affects the safety, permanence, and well-being of children. Through re-
search and case examples, the reader will be immersed in a historical perspective of oppression faced by
black single mothers involved with social service systems, examine ways oppression plays out in child wel-
fare supports and services, and discover new integrated methods of addressing oppression.
