With the wind still blowing and the sun shining we head into the second half of 2023 in a great position for many reasons, we have weathered a quiet period of work out on site and now the work is picking up at a pace. We have secured or are about to secure projects that will give us work this year and throughout 2024. The renewable energy market has never been busier with existing windfarm customers moving into battery and solar projects and taking us with them. At the same time we have seen two of our competitors go into administration (Smith Brothers & G2 Energy) highlighting why we now have a commercial team in the office to ensure we don’t sign up to contracts that put the business at risk. Most of all we have a great team and it’s great to read about so many employees contributing to the success of Powersystems, keep up the good work as it is your contribution that makes us the high voltage specialists of choice for our customers. Thank you all, Chris Jenkins Save the date – Company Day 17 May 2024 Welcome the New Starters… and a little bit about them We welcome all new starters at Powersystems. With each of you we continue to strengthen our team to ensure that we will deliver our promise to our customers as the high voltage specialist of choice. Welcome Electrical Design Engineer, Fatima Stanley, who joins us from Knowledge In Power (KIPO) and WSP in London, where she worked as senior electrical engineering consultant. Jack served his apprenticeship with Jeff Way Electrical Services, before moving to Ethical Power as a site-based electrician. Please give him your full support as he takes his first steps into an office-based role. (Not to be confused with his brother James). Welcome Sales and purchase ledger clerk, Kerry Parsons who further strengthens our finance team. Kerry has many years of experience working in all aspects of both sales and purchase ledgers, so will be a great asset to the team. She brings experience whilst working for AXA, British Aerospace and then latterly for Alexandra Workwear and Nisbets. Welcome Jordan Saunders, who joins the team as an approved electrician. He has a strong background in the commercial and industrial sectors, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and experience. Welcome Theodore Downer, he joins the team as an apprentice electrician and has completed his level 1 and 2 in electrical installation at college. They had run out of water, and it was boiling hot – Thank you whoever you are. Commercially Cutting Edge… Headed up by Hilary Neal, as a newly formed department, the commercial team have concentrated on key areas that affect the business. Hilary updates us, ‘I’m sure many of you will have heard the phrase ‘Turnover is Vanity, Profit is Sanity, but Cash flow is King!’ As with all businesses, each month we monitor the ‘monies coming in and going out’ to ensure our projects are cash positive with no negative impact to the business. Therefore, it is vital we forecast correctly, apply and invoice for money when we are due and receive monies on time. Ferdinand, our quantity surveyor, has been instrumental in pulling together 1. Requirements of our contracts 2. Our finance system Sage and 3. Best practice to produce a monthly application and Invoice procedure that will be rolled out later this month, this enables enhanced levels of support to the project engineers and managers by ensuring we apply, invoice and are paid on time by our clients.

Kathrin Beckerleg updates us on these three priorities. Recruitment I’ve started by reviewing the current process and then revising some of the documentation, namely the policy, interview assessment forms, etc. I’m also trying to make sure that every applicant is responded to and dealt with in a professional and timely fashion by working with managers. Onboarding It will take some time to see the benefits, but I’ve started with a process review and making it more personal. I’m making sure that everything is in place for new starters on their first day with the introduction of a live New Starter Set Up process, contacting new starters to let them know what to expect on day 1 and improving our checklist to cover the first 6 months in the role to ensure that they get all the support they need. Wellbeing In collaboration with SHEQ, we have tried to ensure that there is more information circulated to everyone on some of the awareness days/weeks, including providing all employees with a health booklet. I’ve also started saving any useful information in this area into the HR SharePoint page. We are also working on a long-term strategy for well-being to provide even more support for you. You might be wondering why appoint non-executive directors? What do they bring? What they will be involved in? Who are they? Well let me try and answer these questions. The Board of Powersystems ensures that we are a successful and well-run company. We have put in place a Senior Management Team to operationally run the company’s day to day activities. Why appoint non-executive directors? As we grow, as directors need to look to the future, best practice and governance required in a company with a turnover of over £50Million. By appointing non-executive directors, they will help us meet these obligations by establishing a more formal board structure which will only help strengthen the business for the future. What do non-executives bring? By appointing non-executive directors, we tap into their wider experience and outside knowledge to ensure that as a business we meet with all the items mentioned above and continuously improve. They will be able to offer a fresh perspective as they won’t be concerned with the day-to-day issues of the company, but will instead look at the bigger picture. They will have the ability to advise, challenge and make unbiased decisions in the best interests of the business. What will they be involved with? They will attend regular board meetings and assist the Across 7. Anything with the potential to cause injury is a _____. 10. Process of converting construction waste into reusable materials. 11. Non-executive directors can and will be changed as the business evolves, we will also look to appoint new executive directors from within the company in the future to build the team that will set the direction for the future. Who are they? Richard Furniss was MD of Nordex until 2018 , is an electrical engineer so has very much been involved in our sector of work at a very high level. He was incredibly complimentary about his dealings with Powersystems in the past and has much respect for the company. He is now an independent consultant and NED working in the energy transition to renewables. Iain Godding is the MD of Inflection Point which is his own IT company. He has spent 25 years providing IT services to a wide range of public and private sector clients across a range of industries, across the globe. We often come across situations at work and in life when someone will say you have agreed to something or they have not, and it can affect us financially, so here’s a little quiz! 1. You are in a department store and see a designer shirt priced at £1, when it should have been £100. You, thinking this is a bargain (and excited you can impress this weekend!), take it to the till, where the store assistant tells you that the price on the shelf is a mistake and will only sell it to you for £100, whereas you believe that you can buy it for £1. 2. You agree a price for a secondhand car of £5,000 with a vendor. You state delivery shall be in 3 days, the vendor says 5 days. 3. You have received an order from a senior Project Manager in ABC Ltd on the basis of a quotation, you previously sent in. On completing the contract, you hear from ABC’s Procurement Department that this Project Management did not have the authority to engage you and therefore you will not be paid. 4. Ltd and provide indicative prices, loosely based on your own quick estimates. You then receive a purchase order from ABC Ltd. 5. You receive a free sample of 6 coffee mugs from a potential supplier, which you use and then discover that they crack when boiling water is poured into them. You believe you are entitled to compensation. 6. You receive a verbal order from ABC Ltd to carry out some consultancy work, which you perform satisfactorily. You are then informed by ABC Ltd.’s Accounts Payable section you will not be paid, because you did not have a valid Purchase Order. Design and Construction Workshop Tour at South Kyle The project works at South Kyle Wind Farm has seen the team design, procure, install, commission, and deliver the HV system for the 132/33 kV substation, as well as the 4.5 km 132 kV cable connection and the 33 kV cables to connect the substation to the wind turbines. In May the project, commercial and design team proudly took a design and construction workshop tour, of the completed South Kyle 240 MW Wind Farm. The workshop allowed the team to share valuable lessons learnt, design philosophies and construction standards. Lead by Darren Williams, Head of Engineering at Powersystems, he recognised and gave thanks to the team. All involved have worked relentlessly to achieve this milestone, and really do deserve a pat on the back. A great day, with sun in the sky, for the third visit in a row, which is nothing short of a miracle. Thank you all. Powerful Procurement by Hilary Neal I highlighted at our Company Day 90% of our direct project costs are incurred through the Powersystems supply chain. Our performance and success is reliant on our supply chain partners, their ability to perform and our management of them. Our procurement manager, Diana has carried out supplier engagement initiatives through building relationships, visiting businesses, and challenging them to ensure they provide a first-class product and service, delivered on time in full, enabling Powersystems to provide best value to our clients. Diana has negotiated much better terms and conditions, passing over to the supply chain, greater damages if they are late in supply and further negotiated far better payment terms from some of our key suppliers. In June Diana was invited to Siemens in Frankfurt to their Smarter Solutions Event, which showcased their smart Infrastructure strategy regarding decarbonisation and energy efficiency, digitalisation, and AI. Grab a cuppa, you can look at the presentation here: Digitalization - Overview - Sensors.pdf Contracts Galore Our sales and estimating team are incredible busy with the opportunities that are offered to us, this presents me with lots of contracts to review and negotiate to protect Powersystems against contractual, financial and supply chain risk. We need to ensure any contract we accept gives us the opportunity to perform and be profitable. App Development In order to make it easier to submit and process timesheets the business has looked at how technology can help with this. Rachel Berry will keep us up to date as the trials of the app start. Rachel advises that the site staff and the business will benefit from this step forward in business efficiency, due to the ease of use. Once numbers are confirmed we would look to determine the following. Dates (none confirmed yet), social training, chosen charity and logistics. This could be a great personal goal and will raise money for charity. Trevor Bamber Updates on ‘World of Workday’ A great day out it was amazing to be able to be involved in ‘world of workday’ at my local primary school in Cardiff. I loved talking to 3-year groups, explaining about the different types of engineers and engineering sectors, as well as explaining my career as a civil engineer and now SHEQ professional for Powersystems. We discussed what is electricity? How is it generated? And what infrastructure is needed to get the electricity to its required destinations? The kids and teachers really engaged in my sessions and it was amazing to see such enthusiasm from everyone for the engineering profession. We also discussed the importance of clean energy, and of course, being #safe around electricity. The children loved “dressing up” as civil engineers, and being the ‘wind’ in why wind turbine needs to work. ‘My song’ at the end was a big hit too, we all need Engin-ears !! Watch it here https://lnkd.in/eaNPgAgx EOT Trust Update We are pleased to announce that Gavin Cook has been elected to the EOT board. We would also like to thank everyone that participated in the process, it’s fantastic to see so much engagement.
