FOREWORD BY POLISAS DIRECTOR

Welcome to INTERNATIONAL VIRTUAL FOOD ORATORY COMPETITION 2021!

Firstly, I wish to thank Allah SWT for blessing me with the opportunity to be at the International Virtual Food Oratory
Competition (IVFOC) 2021 which is organized in partnership with Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), in collaboration with
Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, as well as with University of Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and Kolej Poly-Tech Mara (KPTM). I extend my deep
appreciation and sincere thanks to all institutions that participated in our meaningful program that was held in our institution for the
first time in celebration of World Food Day 2021. Each year, on 16 October, there is a celebration of World Food Day around the world
to commemorate the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization 30 years ago. The day is celebrated in many
countries around the world by organizations that are concerned with hunger and food security. As a result of the collective action
of 150 countries, World Food Day has become one of the most celebrated days on the United Nations (UN) calendar. Hundreds of
events and outreach activities are brought together by the governments, businesses, NGOs, the media, and the general public. In
support of 2021 World Food Day organized by Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Department of Food Technology of Politeknik Sultan Haji
Ahmad Shah (POLISAS), together with Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) have organized the International Virtual Food
Oratory Competition.

The International Virtual Food Oratory Competition (IVFOC) 2021 is a program with the concept of language education
focusing on finding and polishing talents from Institutions of Higher Learning to improve their communication skills in English.
Through this program, students not only learn to communicate in English well, but also uncover their potential as well as increase
their self-confidence. Additionally, this program can give students the opportunity to gain international and world-class competition
experience. I would like to express my gratitude to the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) and participating institutions;
Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UITM) and Kolej Poly-Tech Mara (KPTM). The future holds a great deal of
potential for more activities and programs that we can work out together. In line with Malaysia’s aspirations, we would like to create
the best national education ecosystem that would create knowledgeable, skilled, capable, ethical, and moral human capital that
would push both countries forward. Last but not least, congratulations and gratitude goes to the Department of Food Technology,
the Centre of Food Science and Technology (CFoST) Committee, and all the parties directly or indirectly involved in the development
of this noble and meaningful program, as well as the 2021 World Food Day celebration. Thank you

Salam Sejahtera.

First and foremost, I would like to express my upmost appreciation and gratitude to all who have contributed to the initiation
of cooperation between Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) and Politeknik Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (POLISAS). I must
really thank you for your commitment to make this partnership successful. IBTE continue to explore opportunities with relevant
stakeholders to expand similar cooperation within the broad definition area of technical vocational education and training (TVET).
We look forward to working closely with our partner, within and outside the country, to play our part in equipping the youth with
the skills they need to participate in today’s global economy.

This cooperation between the two institutions is further enhanced through the participation of this year INTERNATIONAL
VIRTUAL FOOD ORATORY COMPETITION (IVFOC) 2021. This competition brings a new chapter for School of Agro-Technology
and Applied Sciences of IBTE and Department of Food Technology of POLISAS by bringing together outstandingly articulate
young students in a public speaking competition. This competition is commendable in commemorating World Food Day which is
celebrated every October 16 with very pertinent aim of promoting global awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger.
Furthermore, it also intends to highlight how our changing planet affects food production which may affects the overall food
security and food sustainability initiatives especially in light of increasing world population and climate change.

I have been impressed by the enthusiasm and the support of the working committees from both institutions in making this
competition a success. I wish all the best to all the participants of the competition. Finally, IBTE is looking forward to welcoming
every support and cooperation from POLISAS and vice versa. Together, we can achieve many great things in the years to come.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

World Food Day (WFD) commemorates world hunger and emphasizes
the ways our changing planet affects the production and distribution of food
worldwide. It is observed on 16 October each year to raise global awareness
and action for the plight of those who suffer from hunger. Each year, the WFD
organizes events and takes action focused on a major theme. The theme for the
2021 World Food Day is “The Food You Choose and The Way You Consume Affect
Your Health and the Planet’’. The International Virtual Food Oratory (IVFOC)
Competition was organized this year to help support and promote World Food
Day as well as to encourage our students to think creatively, speak persuasively,
and listen critically and constructively to other perspectives. IVFOC 2021 is a
collaboration between Politeknik Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah(POLISAS), Institute of
Brunei Technical Education(IBTE), Universiti Malaysia Kelantan(UMK), Universiti
Teknologi Mara (UITM) and Kolej Polytech Mara (KPTM).

The International Virtual Food Oratory (IVFOC) 2021 incorporates a
competition and education to help students improve their ability to use the
English language before going into their careers. A student’s success in this
challenging and developing world is not limited to academic achievement
alone, but in addition to demonstrating strong leadership capabilities, skills,
and noble character, as well as being exposed to current development and
modernization. Students are expected to develop the competencies to
communicate accurately, appropriately and effectively in the target language
in an expanding array of social, cultural, and academic contexts and for an
expanding range of purposes.

First of all, I wish to express my gratitude to the Almighty Allah for His blessing upon us to be able
to join forces for making this program, the International Virtual Food Oratory 2021 (IVFOC2021), a success.
Alhamdulillah, IVFOC2021 is the first international event of this type to be held by Politeknik Sultan Hj
Ahmad Shah, in partnership with Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE).
Additionally, I would like to express my deepest appreciation to Universiti Malaysia Kelantan for providing
the opportunity for POLISAS and IBTE to join in the meaningful 2021 World Food Day program together,
and to Universiti Teknologi MARA and Kolej PolyTech MARA for their willingness to participate as well.
It is also my pleasure to extend my sincere thanks to my Secretariat members, particularly those representing
POLISAS and IBTE, as well as the Steering Committee, which is composed of lecturers from the Food
Technology Department of POLISAS and the IBTE School of Agro Technology.
A deep sense of gratitude to all of you for your support and contribution for making this program successful.
