President’s Message
Dearest Lustrous Pearls,
Thank you for your unwavering support towards me, I couldn’t have asked for a
more loyal, kind & competent team of individuals to work with throughout this
journey.
As I have said in my installation speech, this Rotary year is riddled with the plights and
challenges that are unprecedented and extraordinary in every way, but this does
not impede the Rotary movement as we continue to remain resolute, unshaken by
the adversity faced. Instead, we Rotarians in general, and Pearls in particular, rose
up to the occasion, in strength and unity to implement impactful projects such as
the RCKK Pearl Covid-19 Response Team that reached out to 1,290 families with food
and milk aid. We also distributed PPEs to more than 6 hospitals and quarantine
centres, as well as psychological first aid kits to children affected by Covid-19 in KK
and even Lahad Datu.
RCKK Pearl’s contributions went further than just Malaysian borders. RCKK Pearl and
sister club, RC Cebu Gloria Maris, carried out a joint international service project to
provide basic necessities such as rice, canned goods, face masks and educational
materials and food packs to children from the poorest communities.
The Pearls also participated in the Step Up to End Polio fund raising event. Several
members took up the challenge in the Steps Challenge and Weight Loss Challenge
to raise awareness of RI’s global polio eradication campaign. Members also
generously donated towards the End Polio fund.
As we continue with our Rotary work, contributing to the global effort with our Rotary
family, we did not forget the B40 women in Sabah. In October, RCKK Pearl together
with EyeMedics Specialist Eye Centre launched the Hope In Sight Project in
conjunction with World Sight Day. Through this project, Dr Terrence Soong of
EyeMedics performed free cataract surgery on a total of 10 eyes from amongst 7
women belonging to the B40 group.
Besides being active in the
community here, Pearl has
successfully conducted the Regional
Club Financial Management Best
Practice Seminar as the lead club for
10 clubs in Groups 13 & 14 in District
3310. Pearls were also shining stars in
the District’s first virtual Rotary
Leadership Institute (RLI) training,
which ran for 5 intensive weeks, from District 3310 Regional Club Financial Management Best
17th October to 15th November. Practices Seminar

Besides that, at the District Vocational Dialogue, organised by the District Vocational
Service Committee and District Learning & Development Committee, RCKK Pearl’s
signature project REAL was showcased for discussion. CP Datuk Adeline Leong, PP
Datuk Noni Said, Vice President Datuk Aminah Ambrose and Community Service
Director Tulip Noorazyze were featured as panel speakers.
RCKK Pearl had also successfully conducted a
virtual environmental talk by Simon Christopher
and Marinah Harris of Blu Hope Sabah, in
November. It was an enlightening and informative
presentation on threats posed by fish bombing in
Sabah, marine debris clean up initiatives, and
plastic waste recycling among others.
In December, RCKK Pearl continued with our tradition to bring Christmas cheer to
patients and medical staff at the Likas Women and Children’s Hospital. This time, our
visit was restricted to sending them gift packs filled with face shields, stationery sets,
chocolates, among other items. It was touching to see photos of the grateful
recipients sent to us by the medical staff.
We did not have the opportunity to carry out as many fellowship programs as we
would have liked to or which we would normally do. Nevertheless, we successfully
held an intimate but meaningful Club Installation ceremony and Anniversary
celebration that was attended by members only. Our guest of honour at the
installation, was the then Caretaker Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Christina Liew.
I have learned so much more in leadership
from our District Governor Mohan. His
leadership by example and his constant
support and encouragement is a shining
testament to the Rotary motto. DG Mohan
once said, the essence of Rotary is to engage
all members. He complemented RCKK Pearl
for doing just that when we involved all our
past presidents, and all the members in our
food and milk aid distribution.
In the coming months, I would like to engage
more members in their vocation and expertise
and open more doors of opportunity for all.
Rotary creates opportunities for members to
improve their lives and also the lives of those
they help through service projects

My deepest gratitude to my board of directors for their
strong commitment, untiring effort and hard work all
these months in carrying out the numerous meaningful
and impactful projects.
This year brings us closer together , I learn to understand
each & everyone better , I learn what’s your favourite
food & what makes your heart smile , I learn what is your
best dish & what plants flourish in your garden, then I
learn that you all have one thing in common , your heart
smile most when you see those you helped smile a little
due to your contributions .

Club Service 1st Club Assembly
22/07/2020
RCKK Pearl was truly honoured to have
RY2020-21 District 3310 DG Rajamohan
Munisamy at RCKK Pearl's 1st Assembly
meeting for this new term, RY2020-21,
conducted by Pearl's new leadership,
President Eliza Goh.
The meeting was conducted virtually
through Zoom, as is the norm for a lot of
organisations during this pandemic
period.
President Eliza Goh gave her opening
address in which she welcomed DG
Rajamohan, and also AG Woo Soo Poo,
of RC Likas Bay Kota Kinabalu who was
also a guest to the virtual assembly
meeting.
DG Rajamohan in his address to the
Club, revealed that RCKK Pearl was the
second Club he visited after RC
Kuching, and we were so proud to hear
him say that RCKK Pearl is a textbook
example of what a Rotary Club should
be, though we are such a young Club.
Another thing that DG Rajamohan
revealed, much to the delight of those
present for the meeting was the fact
that he was present at our Charter Night
on September 22nd 2015, and shared a
photo of that night showing him onstage
while members were sworn in. How
timely for DG Rajamohan to remind us of
that historical night as RCKK Pearl
chartered to be the biggest All-Women
Rotary Club in SEA region.

COVID-19 Response FRONTLINERS
15, 16 & 26/10/2020
One of the first initiatives as part of our Covid-19 response this term was to donate
PPE gowns, gloves, face shield, googles and wipes to Likas Women and Children’s
Hospital. This was a response from a distress call received by President Eliza Goh on
shortages of PPE at the hospital. PPEs were sent in 3 batches on the 15th , 16th and
26th October 2020 for use in their Oncology and Children’s ward.
Club members and AG Woo donated generously raising RM7,300.00 within a few
days to show our support for the frontliners.
Due to the current situation in Sabah we did not do any of the delivery ourselves in
order to protect the safety of our members and that of the frontliners. PPEs were
delivered directly to the Hospital by our supplier.

Distribution went smoothly with the help of Kg Tg Aru Baru's Surau Committee (AJK),
led by En. Hamzah Hj Saudi Baru, who helped with the coordination of the event,
compiling list of the kampung's food aid beneficiaries and making sure that proper
SOPs such as temperature checks and hand sanitizers were in place.
It is important to note that the required approval (for such food aid activities by any
NGO) had been obtained from Pusat Kawalan Operasi Bencana Daerah (PKOB)
beforehand.
The Ketua Balai Polis of Tg Aru, S/inspector Razmi bin Omar, even came by in the
midst of the activities to ensure that everyone was safe and things done according to

Editors Note
It was a challenge to complete this bulletin because as I was compiling the notes
and photos of all the activities, I was in awe of the hard work and dedication shown
by all our members determined to carry out the objectives of Rotary. We have been
so active such that the number of pages in the bulletin just kept increasing!
The club has been so responsive in adapting to the new normal - from moving to
the virtual platform for club meetings, organizing and attending online vocational
seminars to completing the virtual RLI’s many online sessions and assignments.
It is clear much heart the club has – with the leadership
shown by President Eliza and PP Datuk Suzannah in raising
funds for the Covid-19 response project, PP Datuk Dr. Tarsiah
in working with the district response team, Rtn Tulip for
coordinating all the club community service activities, Rtn
Rosie for coordinating with our friendship clubs in Taiwan and
Rtn Norma keeping everyone updated on our Facebook and
media coverage.
Specific contributions made by our Rotarians is too long to list, as
all our members did not fail in showing service above self -
participating in any way they can. It is evident that at this time
where unprecedented number of people needed assistance, the
ladies of RCKK Pearl stepped up.
I hope this bulletin helps to share the work we do in our club and Azalene
encourage others to join Rotary.
