THE CHIEF MINISTER OF SABAH

YANG AMAT BERHORMAT
DATUK SERI PANGLIMA
HAJI HAJIJI BIN HAJI NOOR

Greetings and Salam Sabah Maju Jaya

Since its inception 7 years ago, RCKK Pearl has been steadfast in its efforts to do good
for the community. Your motto "service above-self' best describe your commitment to
ensure that those in need will receive your goodwill and support. Indeed, RCKK Pearl's
community projects have benefitted many in need and brought much impact to their lives.

Your Project REAL - Rural Focus English For All
involving 18 rural schools and done in collaboration
with the Sabah Education Department has done much
to reduce the English literacy gap between rural and
urban students in Sabah. I wish to see more schools
in the state benefitting from this joint effort.

I am heartened to know that RCKK Pearl will continue
to collaborate with like-minded organisations to
address issues and problems impacting the
community and take positive actions for change. Your
good work will certainly complement the State
Government's efforts in this direction.

I offer warm wishes to RCKK Pearl on the occasion
of your 7th Anniversary Gala Dinner.

Warmest regards,

Chief Minister of Sabah
YAB Datuk Seri Panglima
Haji Hajiji bin Haji Noor

2022-23 ROTARY INTERNATIONAL
PRESIDENT

JENNIFER JONES

Dear Club Officers,

I congratulate you on your installation as a club officer for
2022-23.

The upcoming year promises to be one of the most joyful and rewarding years of your
life.

As club and district leaders, you have such an important role to play. You can do so
much to help create club experiences that are welcoming, inclusive and enjoyable for
each and every member – and you can extend that same warmth and belonging to every
participant who wishes to engage with our clubs.

If we serve our members, we serve our communities. And if we provide comfort and care
for our members, they will truly come to understand the power of Rotary.

We all feel the impact that Rotary service and Rotary values have on us ... now it’s our
opportunity to share that feeling with others. This is a year to Imagine Rotary by
envisioning a world that deserves our best, where we get up each day knowing we can
make a difference. We don’t imagine yesterday, we imagine tomorrow.

We imagine a world without polio, with clean water for everyone. We imagine a world free
of disease and where every child learns to read. We imagine kindness, hope, love, and
peace.

It is an honor to work beside you as we guide our fellow Rotary members to another
successful year. I am relying on you as we commit ourselves to Imagine Rotary.

Warmest regards,

Jennifer Jones
President, Rotary International 2022-23

message from
2022-23 ROTARY INTERNATIONAL
DISTRICT 3310 GOVERNOR

JOANNE KAM

Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Thank you for your dedication and commitment to do good, and serve
the community with ongoing humanitarian service projects. You have
continued to innovate and demonstrate the ability to adapt during the
COVID-19 pandemic.
Rotary International President Jennifer Jones has called on us to dream big and think of ways that Rotary can
touch the imagination of the whole world. Our dream in Rotary is to grow more and do more. When we are open
to innovative ideas, we expand our horizons. We challenge previously held beliefs and move Rotary into a bold
new and exciting future.
Paul Harris once said, “Rotary is a microcosm of a world at peace, a model which nations will do well to follow.”
We want to improve people’s lives and help promote world peace and understanding utilizing our time, talent,
and treasure. Alone, we can only do so much. But, with other Rotarians who are People of Action, we will work
together to make our world better.
In 2022-23 Rotary International President Jennifer Jones will focus on four presidential initiatives that Imagine
Rotary: advancing our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI); creating a welcoming club
experience; empowering girls; and expanding our reach.
Diversity is one of Rotary's longstanding core values and greatest strengths. Rotary has strengthened our
commitment to DEI, resulting in a greater focus on celebrating every individual's contributions, advancing
equity, and creating a more welcoming and inclusive culture. We will produce a generation of collaborative,
representative, and effective leaders. Open your minds to possibilities and fresh ideas, continuing to enrich
your leadership experiences. Sometimes, the best ideas come from the unlikeliest people around you. Actively
seek out those great ideas, challenging you and your peers to become better leaders. Work with and listen to
people different from us.
Rotary’s vision statement says: “Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting
change—across the globe, in our communities, and ourselves.” We must make Rotary a good idea for
Rotarians, prospective Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors, and the family of Rotary.
Rotarians and Rotaractors equally are People of Action. We have an enormous responsibility and an excellent
opportunity to improve our community with innovative and creative ideas. We cannot be mere spectators but
must be active participants, benefiting our community. The world is changing, and Rotary must be at the
forefront of these changes.
The world needs Rotary like never before, it needs us to be bold, to be inspirational, to be generous of our time
and resources. We need to be better known as we achieve bigger goals. We need to think of new ideas that
capture the public spirit. We need the world to know that we are the people who bring hope and make dreams
possible.
Let us turn limitations into opportunities. We will make Rotary the leading service organisation globally and
make a positive difference in people’s lives. We will inspire and attract the new generations to join us in our
good work. We may not see immediate results, but we are planting the seeds of our future success.
In the new Rotary Year, I look forward to the leadership of your 2022-23 Club President and Board of Directors
to continue the good works to build the club, align your club’s strategic plan to Rotary’s Action Plan and the
four Strategic Priorities: Increase Our Impact, Expand Our Reach, Enhance Participant Engagement and
Increase Our Ability to Adapt, and our District 3310 goals.
I would like to encourage the Club to focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, membership attraction,
engagement and retention in the year 2022-23; encourage members and friends of Rotary to build their legacy
and “Do Good in the World” through The Rotary Foundation, and scale-up the club’s service projects and
activities for even greater impact.
Let us Imagine Rotary! I wish you all the best for the Rotary Year 2022-23!

ROTARY CLUB OF KOTA KINABALU PEARL
2022-23 PRESIDENT

DATUK AMINAH AMBROSE

Greetings!

I would like to warmly welcome all of you to RCKK Pearl's 7th
Anniversary Gala Dinner and hope that you will enjoy this
evening with the knowledge that your generous contribution will
in its entirety go towards the many community projects planned
by the hardworking Board of Directors of Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl.

The two preceding years prior to my term as RCKK Pearl's President has been unprecedented in many
ways. The transitional period from the lockdown era to easing restrictions has limited the
implementation of many of our Projects that was set to be launched within their respective terms.
This did not deter our club, under the leadership of the IPP Majella Tan Marquez and AG PP Eliza Goh
from helping ease the burden caused not only by the pandemic, but also many natural disasters that
had befallen certain parts of this beautiful State. We are all here today for one main reason, one
which I hope can be far reaching and impactful, and that is to give back to the community through our
various meaningful projects.

I am honoured to be tasked to lead a very dynamic team of women for this term who have already
shown so much enthusiasm and dedication true to Rotary’s motto “service about self”. I thank you all
here today for participating in this great cause and making it possible for our club to give back to the
community.

In my term as the President 2022-23, the Board of Directors has drawn up numerous programs and
activities including the implementation of our signatures projects; Project REAL - Rural Focus English
for All, which is a collaboration with the Sabah State Education Department to bridge the English
literacy gap between rural and urban students in Sabah. Our club has already identified 36 new
schools to collaborate where the Club will donate English dictionaries, set up an English corner that
will include a TV, DVD player and English books suited to their English literacy level.

Another one of our notable Signature Project is the Hope In Sight where we are partnering with
EyeMedics Specialist Eye Centre to perform 10 cataract surgeries and restoring the vision of B40
women hailing from rural Sabah. We also have a joint project together with the Rotary District 3310
Clubs in Kota Kinabalu for Gift of Sight - Avoidable Blindness Outreach.

We have also teamed up with Rotary Club of Likas Bay (KK), Rotary Club of Bandar Seri Begawan
(Brunei), Rotary Club of Changi (Singapore) and Pertubuhan Komuniti Elite (Kuala Lumpur) for Project
W.A.S.H to tackle water, sanitation and hygiene by providing and restoring clean water supply to rural
villages in Sabah.

I once again thank all of our donors, sponsors, the dynamic Organising Committee headed by our very
own VP Rosie Chong for making this evening happen.

Let us all, in true Rotary fashion, and in the words of Rotary International President Jennifer Jones
“Imagine, a world that deserves our best where we get up each day knowing that we can make a
difference.” Each of you who have contributed, whether through your hard work or through your
generous donations have made a difference, and for that I applaud and thank all of you.

Yours in Rotary,

Aminah Ambrose

Project Chair: Rtn Tulip Noorazyze

This project is in line with the Rotary area of focus in providing ‘Basic Education and Literacy’ and also in line with the
Ministry of Education’s High Immersive Program (HIP) introduced to improve English proficiency of students through
increased exposure in schools. RCKK Pearl has received a Rotary Global Grant to set up in 12 more schools. 3,060 Malay-
English dictionaries have been given to students and more than 4,000 students in the participating schools have access to
over 9,000 English books in the reading corners set up by RCKK Pearl.

Project Chair: Rtn Celestina Chin
This project was initiated in 2020-2021 to provide free cataract surgery to vision-impaired women in the B40 income group,
who are unable to afford the surgery. Besides restoring their vision, the surgeries enable the women to regain their
independence and their ability to earn an income to continue supporting their families. To date, 25 surgeries have been
performed on 16 women at the private specialist eye centre.

SIGNATURE PROJECT - WATER AND SANITATION (WASH)

Project Chair: PP Datuk Suzannah Liaw

This project was initiated in 2019 to provide rural Sabah that have no access
to clean water. The first beneficiary of the project was SK Kawiyan at Kg
Manikulau, Sugut, Ranau, a school for kindergarteners and primary students.
There are a total of 236 students at the school. The project consists of
enlarging water catchment areas, replacing some water pipes, as well as
constructing additional new toilet and bathing facilities. Through this project,
the lives of 930 villagers have been improved with clean water and sanitation
facilities.

DG Dolly visited RCKK Pearl’s upcoming water and sanitation (Project WASH)
project site at Kg Libang. Kg Libang is 6 km away from Ranau. The WASH
team proposes to build a proper dam at the water catchment with latitude of
70m, and to supply two new gravity tanks before distribution to the 95
houses with 450 residents.

that was packed heaps with activities and a meaningful joint project.

The event kicked off with a Friendly Golf Tournament at the Sutera Harbour Golf and Country Club, followed by a
