LUSTRE |2020-2021 ISSUE 2| JULY 2021
President’s Message
Dearest vibrant Pearls ,
I can’t believe a year goes by so quickly even when we can’t physically meet or
socialise for the most part. What brings Rotarians together is the fellowship & bonding
among themselves during our club meetings and events with other clubs in the district.
During this pandemic, we have no doubt missed out on the fun fellowships, but as our
theme clearly stated, “Rotary Opens Opportunities”, opportunities for joint projects with
other clubs and organisations for the Covid-19 food aid to those in need and the
distribution of PPE to the hospitals in Sabah did create a real sense of camaraderie
among those involved.
A club is only as strong as the members she has, and RCKK Pearl continue to be a vibrant
club because of the members. My intention of having more members involved in our
activities also materialised with the various community service projects carried out
amidst the frequent lockdown during this unprecedented pandemic.
Our community service team led by our Community Service Director Rtn Tulip Noorazyze
continued to strive for excellence. During the second half of the term, we continued with
our food aid distribution to those affected by the covid-19 pandemic. As I have said last
year, this pandemic did not impede our club activities, in fact we rose up to the
occasion reaching out to 1,686 hard core poor or families affected by the pandemic.
We continued fellowship among our members through our regular club meetings held
virtually that featured our members as the speakers as well as invited guest speakers
over a diverse range of topics. I am glad we were able to have one physical meeting
this term where our Vocational Service Chair, Rtn Doris Lim was able to showcase her
vocation as an Image Consultant.
The term has also availed our Club the opportunity to publicize about Rotary and getting
more people from the public to know more about Rotary and its purpose. During this
pandemic, the name Rotary was synonymous with food-aid, and help for those who
need it the most. It's evident by the number of people messaging us on our Facebook
asking for help, understanding that Rotary provides aid. The pandemic is truly a blessing
in disguise for Rotary and our club in terms of service.
As my term draws to a close, I wish the incoming President and
Board of Directors a successful term ahead. To the Board of
Directors and members, I thank you again for your dedication
and devotion for service.
I would also like to record my heartfelt thanks and appreciation Eliza Goh
to our Charter President and Past Presidents, the District Governor, President 2020-21
Assistant Governors and Past District Governors, leaders and
fellow Rotarians of District 3310, our sister clubs, our private donors
and sponsors, and everyone who has contributed to our service
efforts in one way or another.

District Activities
To celebrate ROTARY'S 116 years anniversary,
District 3310 held a virtual meet and greet
fellowship event hosted by the Rotary Club of
Kuching Sarawak with DGND Dr John Chan
as the Organising Chair and emceed by RC
Kuching's President Mona Abdul Manap.
DG Rajamohan Munisamy had a wonderful
opening message for everyone saying that
there are many roads to peace, and Rotary
is already providing the environment for
peace in societies through its seven areas of
focus These areas of focus most especially
address the issues of poverty and inequality
of resources' division among communities,
and in turn helps to promote peace.
A few Rotarians were invited to share their
views on Rotary, and PDG Datuk Hj Zainie
Aucasa of RCKK Sabah, in sharing his views,
praised Rotarians who rose to the occasion
of the current pandemic and went full-on to
organise food-aid programs for communities
in need, and supplying frontliners with
medical items, using funds raised within Clubs
and from District Grant. PDG Datuk Hj Zainie
was also proud of the fact that despite the
District being made up of 3 different
countries (Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei),
everyone came together as one big Rotary
family, to bring help to communities in stress,
and in effect, promoting peace amidst
conflict.

Rotaract is changing communities like yours.

Community Service
Whether we can have physical
event or not, donations for selected
children's home is a must for RCKK
Pearl each time Hari Raya Aidilfitri
comes around.
This year, the club has selected to
bring the Hari Raya Adililfitri cheer to
the children of Home Tuaran –
Orphanage and Tahfiz.
Earlier this year, the plan was to take
the children of Home Tuaran for a
shopping trip for new clothes, after
which VP Datuk Aminah Ambrose
generously offered to have the
children at her residence for buka
puasa after shopping.
However, due to the continued Covid-19 movement restrictions, the club decided to
donate the allocated rm2,000 to Home Tuaran for the children's welfare. The buka
puasa event for the children at VP Datuk Aminah's place has also been cancelled.
To safeguard members from exposure to the current pandemic, it was decided that
only President Eliza Goh, VP Datuk Aminah Ambrose and Club Community Service
Director Tulip Noorazyze would go to present the cheque donation of rm2,000 to
Home Tuaran.
Though we're still facing a tough period during this pandemic times, the club
nevertheless will never fail to spread the Rotary spirit of generosity and care for
children.

Community Service FOOD
AID
RCKK Pearl donated food and essential supplies
to Rumah Kanak Kanak Bondulu Toboh,
Tambunan in the interior of Sabah on 12th June
2021. This was a response to an urgent request
for assistance and was verified by when our
member Rtn Lesli Janel visited the home on 10th
June 2021
The coordinator of the centre, Sister Germaine
Angkangon informed Rtn Leslie that the
residents of the home was down to only one
meal per day. The centre is a Catholic mission
foster care service that has 50 stay-in children
on its list. Though there are 50 children listed as
staying at the Home, currently there are only 20
of them as some have gone back to their
respective villages.
The children’s home is run on kind donations
from the public which usually is sufficient to
manage the place. However, because of
Covid-19 pandemic, the donations have
become less and less as everyone, including
the business sectors, began to experience
economic crisis. Thus, the home itself was badly
affected and hard-pressed to keep food on
the table for its residents.
The club wishes to express its heartfelt
appreciation to Lim Yee Hoh Foundation for
their generous donation of RM3,000 that
enabled the Club to respond to Rumah Kanak
Kanak Bondulu Toboh's distressed situation.
Special thanks is also expressed to our lovely
Pearl member Rtn Leslie Jane Jainol for kindly
volunteering to do the weekly purchases and
delivery of fresh food supplies for the home on
behalf of RCKK Pearl.

February to the last day of the term on the 30th of June.
President Eliza did not stop organizing Food Aid right till the end of Azalene
her term. This term has shown a great effort by the community
service team to ensure no one goes hungry during this uncertain
time of the Covid-19 pandemic. All RCKK Pearl Directors, Chairs,
and members have also been working hard to ensure our club
remains active and vibrant.
I hope this bulletin helps to share the work we do in our club and encourage others
to join Rotary.
