We welcome the year 2023 and the 3rd quarter of of the Rotary term of 2022-23. We had wonderful Chinese New Year fellowship event hosted at PP Dtk Suzannah home. The Year of the Rabbit is believed to bring good fortune, peace, and prosperity. As we delve into the symbolism of this remarkable creature, we find traits that resonate deeply with the values we hold dear as Rotarians. The rabbit embodies qualities such as gentleness, compassion, agility, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances—traits that are essential for us to make a positive impact in our communities and the world. In the spirit of the Year of the Rabbit, let us embrace these virtues and infuse them into our Rotary service. Let us be gentle in our approach, showing kindness and empathy to those in need. Through our compassionate actions, we can make a difference in the lives of others and bring hope to those who are facing challenges. Our Community service has been actively providing aid to those affected by floods and fire. Our signature project REAL and WASH has also been active this quarter. Not forgetting our ongoing support of the Joint Clubs Project, Rotary Global Grant Project - Gift of Sight 2.0 Sabah in Kota Belud and Ranau. Our membership chair Catherine has been actively organising fellowship lunches, dinners, hikings, trekkings, short trips, for our Club members. Member retention is just equally as important as recruitment, and through such activities as our Membership Chair is working hard to organize we had a member’s getaway to Kundasang, I hope that the close friendship and fellowship events can help to retain members, for as long as they can stay. President's Message Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl 2 LUSTRE 2022-23 | ISSUE 3 All our directors have had a busy 3 months - International, Vocational Service, Youth, Club, Membership as well as Public Relations. 43 LUSTRE 2022-23 | ISSUE 3 SPECIAL REPORT PUBLIC IMAGE

44 LUSTRE 2022-23 | ISSUE 3 THE IMPORTANCE OF PUBLIC IMAGE Public image refers to the perception and reputation of Rotary clubs in the eyes of the public, both at the local and global levels. It encompasses how Rotary is perceived in terms of its values, mission, projects, and impact on communities. Maintaining a positive public image is crucial for Rotary clubs for several reasons: Visibility & Awareness: A strong public image helps Rotary clubs gain visibility within their communities and beyond. When the public has a positive perception of Rotary, it increases awareness of the organization and its activities. This visibility can attract potential members, sponsors, and partners who want to contribute to Rotary's service projects. Credibility & Trust: A positive public image establishes Rotary clubs as credible and trustworthy organizations. When the public sees Rotary as reputable and reliable, they are more likely to support and engage with the club's initiatives. Credibility and trust are essential for building partnerships, securing funding, and attracting volunteers. Recruitment & Membership: A positive public image can play a vital role in attracting new members to Rotary clubs. When the public recognizes Rotary as an organization that makes a significant impact and creates positive change, it becomes an attractive option for individuals looking to serve their communities. A strong public image can also enhance the club's ability to retain existing members by creating a sense of pride and belonging. PUBLIC IMAGE NORMA APINES PUBLIC IMAGE CHAIR Kudos to our Public Image Chair for her tireless effort to highlight our club's activities though Facebook and the district chat groups!

45 LUSTRE 2022-23 | ISSUE 3 THE IMPORTANCE OF PUBLIC IMAGE (CONTINUED..) Fundraising & Sponsorship: Public image influences Rotary clubs' ability to raise funds and secure sponsorships. When the public perceives Rotary as an organization that delivers meaningful and impactful projects, it increases the likelihood of financial support from individuals, businesses, and philanthropic organizations. A positive public image enhances the club's ability to showcase the value and impact of their initiatives, making it easier to secure funding and sponsorships. Community Engagement & Collaboration: A positive public image can open doors for Rotary clubs to engage with other community organizations, government entities, and stakeholders. When Rotary is seen as a respected and influential organization, it becomes a preferred partner for collaborative projects and community initiatives. A strong public image facilitates networking, collaboration, and the formation of strategic alliances. Global Connections & Impact: Rotary clubs have a global presence and work on international projects through Rotary International. A positive public image at the global level enhances Rotary's ability to engage with international partners, governments, and organizations. It strengthens Rotary's influence and impact on global issues, such as polio eradication, clean water, and education. Overall, public image plays a vital role in shaping Rotary clubs' ability to make a difference in their communities. By maintaining a positive public image, Rotary clubs can attract resources, engage stakeholders, build partnerships, and create a lasting impact. It is through a strong public image that Rotary clubs can effectively communicate their mission, values, and achievements, inspiring others to join in the pursuit of service above self. PUBLIC IMAGE "In the promotion of understanding, it is important to reach large numbers, non-Rotarians as well as Rotarians, and you cannot reach large numbers privately.” Rotary founder Paul Harris
