Manero Tourbillon
Carl F. Bucherer — an innovator of timeless classics Double Peripheral
TODAY THERE ARE VERY FEW FAMILY-OWNED SWISS WATCHMAKERS, Manero Flyback
and Carl F. Bucherer is one of the most illustrious. Among the milestones in the brand's
130-year history was the development of the peripheral rotor, which unlike a winding rotor Manero Peripheral
provides an unhindered view of the exquisite horological craftsmanship under the case.
This year, in another first, the brand introduced the CFB T3000, a unique in-house move- Patravi ScubaTec
ment that combines a peripheral automatic winding system and a peripherally mounted Manta Trust
tourbillon that appears to float. For more about the Manero Tourbillon Double Peripheral
and three other recent introductions, read on.
Manero Tourbillon Double Peripheral The COSC-certified chronometer
movement houses a new-style tourbillion with no visible bridges holding the mechanism in
place. This gives it the appearance of floating, thanks to three ceramic ball bearings, which
ensure a stable connection, precise guidance and smooth running.
Manero Flyback With its bold black face, silver subdials, red accents and weath-
ered leather strap, this new edition of the Manero Flyback was inspired by Carl F.
Bucherer models from the 1960s and '70s. Powering the watch is the CFB 1970
chronograph movement with flyback function, which enables the user to record
consecutive times with the shortest possible interval between them.
Manero Peripheral The new Manero Peripheral has the same classic
good looks and innovative CFB A2050 movement as its 40.6-millimeter-case pred-
ecessor, only its case has grown to 43 millimeters, for those who prefer a larger
watch. The automatic movement — certified as a chronometer — draws its power
from a bidirectional automatic winding system with a peripheral rotor.
Patravi ScubaTec Manta Trust This new timepiece, limited to an
edition of 1,888 pieces, features an automatic helium release valve, making it perfectly
equipped for dives of up to 500 meters. The luminescent indices and hands add to
its distinctively sporty look and ensure that it's easily readable underwater. Part of the
proceeds from the sale of this watch will contribute to the conservation of manta rays
through the Manta Trust charity.

His customers certainly seem to think so: Eili Qubrusi, who lives in

Imagine the bragging rights when you create your own fantasy vacation.
by Kathleen Beckett
ANYONE CAN TRAVEL TO ENGLAND. BUT NOT EVERYONE CAN STAY IN THE ANCESTRAL HOME OF
one of the world’s most beloved royals and sleep in a bed where George V and Winston Churchill spent
the night — at different times!
There is a growing category of tour operators/concierges/connectors — call them what you will —
whose Little Black Books would turn the average travel agent green with envy.
Andrew Loyd — the insider who can get you into the King’s bed — is one such gem. After having
managed the estates of some of the world’s richest people, he and a friend, Jonathan Townsend Rose,
formed Loyd & Townsend Rose. LTR can arrange for individuals, families or groups to rent out some of
Europe’s most magnificent private castles, stately homes and manor houses; clients rent the entire
estate, so they’re not sleeping in one bedroom while a stranger is in another, like staying in a castle hotel.
They have the run of the (fully staffed) house, as if it were their own home.
But there’s more, and that’s where companies like LTR (ltrcastles.com) really shine. “It’s really all
about having an eye for quality, and then the Devil is in the details, providing every little service that
guests require.” Mr. Loyd said. “We have organized lunch in the House of Lords,” and more: “We had a
rubber Loch Ness monster float past Aldourie Castle, which sits on Loch Ness. This cost £20,000 (about
$26, 500). The client’s daughter wanted it, so she got it!” And “for another little poppet we had to corral
40 ponies into a field so she could choose one.” A client’s wish is LTR’s command.
