ORLOFF JEWELERS MAGAZINE • AUTUMN/HOLIDAY 2015

W Warmest regards from all of us at Orloff Jewelers. This year will mark our 60th year in business, our Diamond Jubilee, and for that we thank
you. Your support has allowed us to be Fresno’s Family Owned Jewelry Store for three generations and we have been blessed to help countless
families find the perfect gift for their most important occasions. Nothing pleases us more than when a child that we have seen grow up comes
into the store because their parents recommended us. We have seen a lot of that this year and it is with heart filled thanks that you have allowed
us to be your family jeweler for generations.
We have been celebrating our Diamond Jubilee with on-going contests and fun promotions. We invite you to stop by the store to sign up for
our latest contest and see our special offers.
For 60 years, Orloff Jewelers has had a track record of providing our customers the best in quality, service and selection, and this year was no
exception. In celebration of our Diamond Jubilee we hand selected new fine jewelry and timepiece designers to Fresno including Marco Bicego,
Michele Watches, Gabriel & Co. New York, Lashbrook, LaFonn, JudeFrances and more. These designers are the definition of couture jewelry
with renowned designs and craftsmanship. They also have extraordinary stories and a passion for jewelry that you can see in their work. If you
have not seen these new lines, or heard their unique stories, please come by and a take a look.
We also re-designed our website and added thousands of products including millions of dollars of loose certified AGS and GIA diamonds. You
can also fill out a Wish List and learn about the history of the Orloff Diamond. We are excited that this technology has allowed us to enhance
our services in new and innovative ways.
In addition to our new lines of fine jewelry, we have enriched the ‘experience’ of shopping at Orloff Jewelers. For our clients who want to
design their own jewelry we have the CounterSketch Studio, the latest technology for jewelry design. You can literally sit down with one of our
Jewelry Consultants and create your own engagement ring or fine jewelry piece using the latest 3-D design technology. Creating your own jewelry
is not only romantic and sentimental, it’s easy, fun and a one-of-a-kind experience. In addition to engagement rings, CounterSketch, is also an
excellent way to redesign dated jewelry, or re-create an heirloom piece that you can wear every day.
Designing your own jewelry is only one of the many experiences that sets Orloff Jewelers apart. We are committed to providing the best over
the counter service and this year we have hired additional Jewelry Consultants and Managers with more than 40 years combined experience.
After a statewide search we are pleased to welcome our new Store Manager, Kirk Gentry, to Fresno. Gentry hails from Michigan, has 30 years of
experience in the jewelry industry, and has the right mix of customer service and jewelry expertise to help our guests find the perfect gift.
In closing, we want our guests to enjoy the experience of shopping at Orloff Jewelers as much as the jewelry and it’s what motivates us every
day to be your jeweler of choice. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
With gratitude,
James and Mary Ann Orloff

David Yurman Holiday Party

CEO of Valley Children’s Hospital
Todd Suntrapak and Tammy Suntrapak

On November 6, 2014, David Yurman, America’s premier Danielle Parnagian and Armen Bacon
jewelry and timepiece designer, hosted an event at Orloff Jewelers Kimberly, Rachel, and Cookie Goldring
benefiting Valley Children’s Hospital.
The event showcased the many new introductions from renowned
designer David Yurman, as well as an enhanced selection of his classic
collections. In addition to donating a portion of sales from the evening
to Valley Children’s Hospital, Orloff Jewelers gave away a David
Yurman timepiece as a prize to one lucky winner out of the first
100 participants. All of the participants received a commemorative
Sterling Silver giraffe pendant as a gift for their donation.

David Yurman’s Albion collection brings out the beauty of unique gemstones
The Albion, first introduced in 1994, is one of David Yurman’s most
recognizable designs. Albion is a celebration of the beauty of cushion-shaped
gemstones with the signature checkerboard faceting that creates a greater play of
color and light. Now, David Yurman unveils a refined new iteration of the Albion,
with softer, more sensual edges and a setting that holds the stone closer to the skin.
The colored gemstones are backed with sterling silver for enhanced brilliance, and
diamonds are set in a mosaic pattern, creating a scintillating sparkle.
David Yurman’s wife, Sybil, once told him she wanted a bracelet that told time.
This was the starting point for a timepiece collection that combines signature
David Yurman design elements with exceptional technology and craftsmanship.
Now, playing on the new look of the Albion Collection, David Yurman is
introducing a watch that truly combines timekeeping with jewelry. The watch
dial is square with rounded corners, taking its inspiration from the collection’s
recognizable cushion-shaped gemstones. The linked bracelet makes the design
perfect for pairing with a stack of David Yurman bracelets.
David Yurman, one of America’s leading jewelry designers, has become an icon
of American style. A former sculptor, David began to design jewelry more than 30
years ago, developing his passion into a global business. His signature pieces have
become legends in jewelry design.

DESIGNER HOOPS

How adventurous turned out to be sophisticated.

We could give you the historical tour — how earrings have been
around for over five millennia; how it has been discovered that
not less than five different styles of silver hoop earrings adorned
the ears of Canaanite women 3,200 years ago, long before minted
coins were invented; or how even the oldest mummy uncovered
was found sporting a fine pair of studs.
We could go over the social reasoning with you, talking in depth
about the way hoops have been associated with the wearer’s status
or wealth ever since King David himself tried on the style.
Or we could set the stage for the beautiful claim that hoop
earrings have been superstitiously worn for their alleged power to
change our lives for better. Wouldn’t that be nice?
But none of the above would do justice to this remarkably
timeless piece of jewelry, the hoop earring. Not to mention that it
would also bore you out of our jewelry store in no time. Mysterious
and undoubtedly sexy, the first thing hoops bring to the modern
genderless mind is the fact that they embody the adventurous
spirit of the pirates (oh, so charmingly dangerous) and of the gypsy

]24 O R L O F F J E W E L E R S M A G A Z I N E

women (oh, so elegantly dark). Both used
to wear hoops as a mark of their travels
and voyages, as a celebration of their firsts.
We rest our case here, for our job is
done — from the classical smooth gold
hoops; hollow or diamond-studded inside
and out; round, oval, square, or freeform; to
the twisted, cable, oxidized, or confetti look;
avant-garde or vintage style, the hoops are not
a whim or a fad. They are a bold and edgy fashion
statement here to stay, with no age, face shape, design preference,
or personal style limitations.
Hoops say something about us very few other accessories
know how to say: that we are adventurous and confident, as our
elegance has its own story and history. That we’ve had our firsts and
remember them with gusto. That being the sophisticated women
we are today took some flair and courage; it took some jumping
through hoops as well.
Wearing hoops says: lived it, learned from it, look forward to the
next experience. Cheshire cat smile.

Watchmaking

3 TTroepndsWonders
Today’s luxury timepieces are designed to stand the test of time, with increasingly maintenance-free mechanical movements and cases
made of precious metals and space-age materials. Because it is made to last, there is always a classic, timeless element to the design of
a luxury timepiece. However, several trends and style developments are revealed each year at the two main watch fairs in Switzerland,
Baselworld and the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie. Some of these trends are nuanced variations on previous designs, and others
represent innovations that push the boundaries of craftsmanship and technology. Here are three trends that are currently shaping the modern
mechanical watch industry.

14. Classic timepieces and traditional movements are
making a comeback, after several years of oversized watches with
multiple complications. Characteristics of the classic dress watch
include clean, minimalist dials with Roman numerals or sleek
markers, and rarely more that one complication aside from minutes,
hours, and seconds.

For some couples, the best option is to upgrade to a new engagement ring due to a
change in style preference or damage to the original ring. Consider enhancing the design
with layers of meaning by adding children’s birthstones, specialized filigree metalwork,
inscriptions to the band or three-stone “past, present, and future” symbolism.
The trend for stackable bands is a wonderful way to upgrade existing jewelry and at

Many women also upgrade by adding color to their rings, with fancy color diamonds a
