GROUP 1 (QUESTION 1)
There are still many damaging environmental issues for us to address.
Write an essay on the environmental issues faced and the possible solutions.
Our environment is in danger! It is an irrefutable point that our beloved mother
nature is exposed to a myriad of dangers and has tremendously progressed solely due to
mankind who are laid-back on this alarming issue. A number of centuries ago, our
ancestors valued and took great care of our environment which led to zero pollution.
Unfortunately, today, people are busy chasing after dollars and cents yet have no idea
about the condition of the environment. In my perspective, if we think we are educated
just because we have a certificate but do not bother to concern ourselves with the
simplest things like environmental issues that are widely reported to cause death to
wildlife and people, then we are just an educated fool! If we fail to love and nurture our
mother earth, then we must be ready to face the negative consequences in the future. It is
such a shame that we ‘educated’ people cannot even do the bare minimum. It is heart-
wrenching to know that the environmental issues in our country are ramping up.
Therefore, I would like to address a number of environmental issues faced and concrete
solutions to prevent them which are the government who are known as the major organ of
our country should enforce stern law, recycle products and replant trees on landslide area.
At the forefront of this issue, a devastating incident occurred in Kim Kim River,
Johor Bahru on 7th of March 2019 due to the discharge of 2.43 tonnes of chemical
substances from an oil tanker. Due to the irresponsible act of the factory owner and the
workers approximately 6000 of them have suffered and most of the school students were
affected and had numerous symptoms such as vomiting, nausea and breathing difficulties.
They have inhaled the toxic fumes that were released from the dumping of poisonous
chemical waste. It is highly disappointed that the government were not responsible and
alert enough to curb this issue among people who dump chemical waste illegally in the
river. Therefore, government who must enforce stern law such as impose fine against
factory owners who eliminate chemical waste in the water. As a result, factory owners
will not dare to repeat their mistake.
From 2002 to 2020, the nation of Malaysia has suffered from one of the highest
rates of deforestation seen in the world. For Borneo Malaysia, which is Sabah and
Sarawak, the World Wide Fund For Nature, WWF recorded a forest loss of 1.9 million
hectares between 2004 to 2017. This is 33 percent out of the 5.9 million hectares of forest
loss identified for the whole of Borneo over the same period. This is not the first time that
deforestation in Malaysia has brought concerns to conservationists and activists. Back in
2013, it was reported that Malaysia had the world’s highest rate of forest loss between
2000 and 2012 which amounting to 14.4 percent and the loss translated to 47,278 square
kilometres which an area larger than Denmark. This is happening because of some causes
of deforestation. Firstly, it is commercial farming. Malaysia is one of the largest
producers and exporters of palm oil, and oil palm plantation owners receive tax breaks,
making this a very lucrative operation. Valuable rainforest has been cleared for these oil
palm plantations, making this kind of large-scale commercial farming one of the greatest
threats to Malaysian forests. Consequently, increased industrial land use can unbalance
the local ecosystem, leading to potential flooding, soil erosion, contamination of soil and
water, and disruption of the local water cycles. These can wipe out roads or even towns,
and this disruption also increases the risk of uncontrollable forest fires. In addition, oil
and gas drilling on the island of Borneo has caused more forest to be cleared for
production. Extra land has to be cleared for transportation of these goods from mining
and drilling sites to logistical ports. The possible solution that can decrease the rate of
deforestation is recycle paper and wood products. The advantages of recycling paper are
saving energy, water and landfill space. Paper recycling reduces greenhouse gas
emissions and the recycled fiber is a sustainable, cost-saving resource for making new
paper products. As Emily Deschanel, an American actress said, " it makes a big
difference to recycle. It makes a big difference to use recycled products. It makes a big
difference to use things, to not use the paper cup and each time you do, it is a victory."
Thus, recycling paper and wood products is an important and successful way to stop
deforestation.
Next, Landslides can occur for different reasons and in different areas. They
usually occur when an earthquake strikes where a slope is too steep. When the earthquake
occurs, the soil slips and causes a landslide. Landslides can also be triggered by heavy
rainfall. This happens when the soil becomes completely saturated. This also means that
areas where houses are located on a hill, can be tremendously affected and result in a
huge amount of property damage. Landslides have an effect on public safety, economics,
scientific exploration, and urban planning. They require a geologist for many reasons.
Houses built on a hill can be ruined due to a landslide. Landslides cause property
damage, death, injury, and can even affect our resources. Roads can also be damaged and
can take forever to be rebuilt or fixed. This affects the economy because not only is it
expensive to repair roadways, but it is also a hassle to find a new transportation route. If
property is damaged, this can also result in the loss of property value. Landslides in
general, come with cost. Geologists are needed to determine whether or not a certain hill
is safe enough to be built on. If it is determined to be unsafe, then this means that houses
cannot be built because they are aware that a landslide will eventually occur and cause
damage in the future. One might say that an easier way to prevent a landslide is by
avoiding the problem or relocating a road to avoid a future landslide. However,
geologists can also study the area to see if it is prone to earthquakes, aftershocks and
landslides. In other way, to avoid this accident happen again, government must do the
replant project to keep away from landslide.
Moving on to my next point, our government must strengthen the law to avoid
people from doing open burning such as people who break the law for open burning and
clearing the rubber plantation or palm oil plantation in Malaysia as a way to punish the
offenders. Some offenders need to pay the summons or they can go to jail. For example,
mass illegal burning took place at Indonesia was the environment issue that caused
everyone to suffer in 2015. As a result, Malaysia, Singapore and parts of Thailand was
affected with terrible haze. This incident triggering school closures and disrupting air
travel. The haze also causes dry throats and resulting in flu or runny nose and some
people may having sore eyes (conjunctivitis). This action can give a lesson to the citizens
who break the rules. As a result, strengthening the law can avoid mass open burning
which causes haze to happen again and does not cause environment issues to occur again.
To summarize, it is crystal clear that there are uncountable damaging
environmental issues that still occur in our country as stated above. However, the
environmental issues can definitely be solved by the solutions suggested which are
government enforce the laws and ban usage of plastics, recycle products and replant
trees. Therefore, I strongly believe that we humans will learn from our mistake and start
to take necessary actions because better late than never. Let us cooperate and collaborate
together in order to save our mother nature that is dying and try our level best to curb
environmental issues.
GROUP 2 (QUESTION 4)
Students often delay doing their homework and therefore cannot finish on time.
Write an essay on the possible solutions to overcome procrastination.
As a matter of fact, doing homework is inevitable if you are a student. It is a
universal truth that teachers assign homework to students so that they can have a better
understanding on the topic and thus pass the examination with flying colours. However, it
is also common that students tend to delay doing their homework due to a myriad of
reasons. This is not a good choice as they still need to finish this homework in the future.
In order to avoid students from procrastinating their homework, they should have
effective time management, complete priority tasks in advance and do homework in
study group with their friends.
First and foremost, students can overcome procrastination by having effective time
management. This is in light of fact that when they learn to allocate their time widely,
they can solve lots of tasks within a short period of time. For example, by having a
timetable students can have a clear vision on what should they do first instead of doing
unnecessary things. In their timetable, they can mark on the date when they need to
submit their homework to prevent them from finishing the task at eleventh hour.
Consequently, they can balance their time for academic and entertainment, since students
should not just study 24/7. As the saying goes, all work and no play makes Jack a dull
boy. Therefore, it is undeniable that time management is always the key to avoid
procrastination.
Another solution to overcome procrastination among students is to prioritize a
task. Time is what we want most but what we use worst. To overcome procrastination,
students should get used to prioritize their daily tasks to ensure that they are able to
complete the tasks before the deadlines. With the help of prioritizing tasks, students are
able to complete emergency and important tasks first before they move on to another
tasks. As an example, between revision on examination that will be held the next day and
assignments that due next week, students should prioritize the revision on examination
and followed by the assignments. After prioritizing tasks, students should start their
works with the less effort required first. For example, when doing revision, students
should start with the easiest chapter. This is because when a simple task is completed, the
feeling of satisfaction will arise and students will get more motivated to accomplish the
next task that need greater effort. Then, they will keep on doing other tasks with
enthusiasm. Consequently, no work will be left behind. Obviously, procrastination among
students can be solved by prioritizing a task.
Last but not least, students could form a study group among classmates to avoid
delaying a lot of homework. Sometimes, being in a group while performing a certain task
can be solve easily rather than going solo. This apply in doing homework as students will
not only overcome the difficulties but to have a better understanding on their homework.
For instances, a student who does their homework on their own would waste a huge
amount of time in puzzling over any difficult homework. However, if the task is handle
in a group, there would be more ideas, ways and discussion in solving the obstacles of the
homework. Thus, studying in a group would help students to seek clarification on their
homework and complete more homework in a short time without any problem of
procrastination.
In conclusion, students can overcome procrastination by managing their time
effectively, prioritizing a task and forming study group. Students should be able to handle
their homework and assignments well without delaying their work. They have the
responsibility to complete their homework perfectly and pass up on time. Procrastination
is an act that should be avoided by them as this will cause the students have to make up
for lost time on their works. If the students keep on delaying the work that need to be
done, they will feel more exhausting in the end as the sayings that sound, “Never leave
until tomorrow which you can do today.” It is hoped that the solutions suggested can help
the students to overcome the bad habit of procrastinating homework and assignments and
lead them to have a more disciplined school life.
GROUP 3 (QUESTION 5)
Dengue cases are increased in recent years.
Write an essay on the cases and measures to fight dengue cases.
Dengue is a mosquito-borne infection caused by the dengue virus that is spread by
Aedes mosquitoes. The people who are infected by this virus will experience several mild
symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, and joints pain. The number of dengue
cases reported has increased in recent years and it is worrying to the society since if one
were to be infected by the disease, there is a chance that they would develop severe
dengue that could lead to internal bleeding and death. As it is known, for every effect
there are causes and for dengue, some of the causes are mosquito breeding grounds, self-
cleanliness and lack of awareness on health. Not to worry as there are a lot of measures
one could do to fight the dengue virus such as self-cleanliness, clean possible mosquito
breeding grounds and educate ourselves.
First and foremost, the cause of leading death in Malaysia from 2010 to 2013 is
dengue. There are many possible causes of dengue but in this case, we are going to
discuss self-cleanliness. This is because we allow mosquitoes in our house and end up
getting bitten by them. We take dengue mosquitoes as tiny pests, but they can cause a
very big disaster. When dengue mosquitoes bite us, it will transmit its virus into our
bloodstream which will later spread and become harmful. The symptoms may start with
fever, cough, and later end up with death if not taken care of properly. We can prevent
dengue by practicing a few safety steps. One of them is by closing our sliding door and
mirror before 7pm or during rainy days. This will prohibit mosquitoes from entering our
house. Secondly, we are also advised to wear long sleeve clothes to avoid getting bitten
by mosquitoes. Next, we can make it a habit by spraying our house once every day to
make sure there are no dengue mosquitoes inhibiting our house. The spray will kill them
and protect us from dengue. Moreover, we can stick anti-mosquito repellent on our body
when we go outside or do something that involves getting bitten by mosquitoes. This is
because the repellent on our body will give an odour and prevent the mosquito from
coming near us. This will surely help to avoid mosquito bite. As we can see, not being
hygienic can cause the spread of dengue disease and we should always keep our self and
house clean and block away Aedes mosquitoes.
Other than that, the problem that may lead to an increase in the number of dengue
cases is there are too many mosquitoes breeding ground. This is because all mosquitoes
like water because mosquito larvae and pupae live in the water. Mosquitoes can live in
almost any environment, with the exception of extreme cold weather. Dengue mosquito
lay its egg on the walls of water-filled containers and the eggs hatch and can survive for
months when submerged in the water. The dengue mosquito does not lay eggs in ditches
or drainages because mosquitoes prefer clean water or nutrient-rich water. Some
mosquitoes lay eggs near the edges of lakes and ponds, or among plants in swamps and
marshes, or in containers that hold water. Adult mosquitoes usually rest indoors in dark
areas such as closets, under beds and behind curtains and a few mosquitoes per household
can produce large dengue outbreaks. for instance, the common container in which eggs
develop to adult mosquitoes are those that are filled with water by people like potted
plants, open tanks and that are filled with rainwater like pots, garbage cans, bottles, and
trash. In order to avoid a dengue outbreak, we can practice the prevention steps in our
daily life. Firstly, we must throw away or empty any container that may accumulate
rainwater in our house compound like watering pots. We also should practice to not litter
no matter where we go let alone public places or even in our own neighbourhood. We
may view this as a small matter, but the consequences are not a joke. We should not take
this lightly just because it has nothing to do with us. Thus, we should be considerate to
other people. Next, as for the water tank for water storage, we should cover by placing a
tight lid on the container, empty and clean domestic water storage containers on a weekly
basis. Other than that, we have to make sure that there are no larvae or pupae in any
container with water regularly and we can also put insecticides to water storage outdoor
containers. To conclude, it is important to prevent mosquitoes breeding sites because
prevention is better than cure.
Besides that, the lack of health awareness also contributes a major role in the rise
of dengue cases. There are a huge number of people who think dengue is a petty issue.
Why? As we all know, the number of deaths due to dengue yearly is somewhat low.
Despite experiencing symptoms, there are people who are hard-headed and refuse to seek
help from a doctor. This is extremely dangerous because it can lead to the disease being
spread to other people. In worst case scenarios, it can even cause death. The number of
deaths due to dengue may be low, but never zero. To prevent this from happening, we
should seek immediate medical help when symptoms begin to occur. Some examples of
symptoms are, stomachache, vomiting and bloody nose. We should also regularly read up
the latest articles and information about dengue online to educate ourselves on the
consequences of dengue. It is obvious that lack of awareness on health can cause a spike
in dengue cases and we should overcome by trying to educate ourselves more on dengue.
In conclusion, dengue could be fought by performing a lot of measures. Moreover,
it is important for us to prevent the disease since dengue could be a serious problem for
everyone especially towards the elderly and children since the chance or risk of them
being infected are higher. This is due to the reason of them having a lower immune
system compared to the youths. And so, we have to stop the spreading of the disease in
order to ensure a wholesome environment for society. It is hoped that with all the
measures suggested, we would be able to fight the dengue cases so that one would not
need to be worry about the virus and could live their life in serene.
GROUP 4 (QUESTION 6)
Civic mindedness among young generation is decaying in this modern society.
Write an essay on suggesting ways to address this issue.
Younger generation today has been exposed to the world of technology that is
growing rapidly like a mushroom growing after rain. They must have been competence in
various fields especially those involving social media which has become something
important of themselves nowadays. However, teenagers nowadays have mostly fallen
into social problems that have led to a decaying in civic mindedness in them which has
caused various problems in society. It is clearly shown by the statistics of crimes in
Malaysia. In 2020 the crime rates increased tremendously by referring to the youths. The
social ill such as vandalism, drug use offenses, robbery and so on. So, this matter must be
prevented and reduced through support from the government, society, and families who
are the role models for these teenagers so that a healthier culture, strong identity, and
civic mindedness individual can be born in them.
The first solution is parents need to make sure to give a positive parenting to their
children. As we all know, parents play an important role as influencer for children
because they are the closest person to their children. When the parents give a proper
guidance to their children, the children they will emulate many positive attitudes. They
instill all the positive things that their parents have done. For example, parents need pay
attention to their children personal physical and mental growth so that they will not feel
lonely. The children will also be happy and mimic all the positive values that the parents
showed when they spend time together. For example, respect the elder people in the
family. Thus, by giving proper positive parenting, the children will feel loved and able to
grow with positive emotion and thinking and less exposed to the decaying civic
mindedness among the young generation in the modern society.
Furthermore, bad influence from friends is also the problem that causes teenagers
lack of civic-mindedness. For example, some of young generation making the wrong step
which is choosing the wrong friend. Young people will easily follow a bad friend to do
things that are not civic because they already influenced by their best friend. Therefore,
the step that can overcome this problem is choose a friend with decent family background
carefully. This is because, teenagers who have good cultivation of good moral values can
maintain excellent civic-minded in nature. The way to choose a friend is like a friend
with common goals, a friend that is always motivating others and a friend that is thirst for
knowledge. To sum up, choosing a friend with decent family background carefully can
influence us to be more civic-minded.
The last problem is the society these days has become too judgmental. These
problems become more apparent in this era of gadgets where people can communicate
anonymously over countless miles. People become less and less meeting in person
because you can just call people across the country in minimal effort. This makes them
have to put up a public face where they have to play their character. The moment
someone is different from the rest, they will get scrutinize and discriminate against
heavily. Over the year, people start to ignore other people’s opinions and think they have
the greatest judgment. This can be seen on social media platforms where the famous
individual will have lots of supporters and their stand backed up regardless of how
ridiculous it is. Long gone are the days where people gather around one table for
discussion. How hard is it that we as a human, not judge others just by looking at their
physical traits and social background? This kind of mindset is so primitive. To advance
toward the future, the advancement of technology needs to align with the mind also.
Otherwise, this progress will amount to nothing cause we are getting back to square one.
In conclusion, civic-mindedness among young people is decaying day by day. That is the
more reason we have to solve this issue before its getting out of hand.
In conclusion, civic mindedness is really vital for the society especially for the
young generation. Decaying civic-mindedness can be avoided by giving positive
parenting from parents toward their children, teach the children to choose a friend who
always brings a good thing and we need to try understand others. These young generation
are our future and successors. They are our legacy. So, it is very important for them to be
civic-mindedness. It is hoped that with the solutions suggested, the society will be more
peaceful and becomes more positive.
GROUP 5 (QUESTION 2)
Cyberbullying cases have increased recently.
Write an essay on cyberbullying and the possible solutions to curb this problem.
All technology these days produces both good results and notable consequences.
While better connecting the world and democratizing information, the internet has also
allowed individuals to hide behind masks of anonymity. The results of an Ipsos
international survey of adults in 28 countries which reveals an increasing number of
parents who have children who have experienced some form of cyberbullying.
Cyberbullying is bullying with the use of digital technologies. It can take place on social
media, messaging platforms, gaming platforms, and mobile phones. It is repeated
behavior, aimed at scaring, angering, or shaming those who are targeted. Examples
include spreading lies about or posting embarrassing photos of someone on social media
sending hurtful messages or threats via messaging platforms impersonating someone and
sending mean messages to others on their behalf. Some cyberbullying crosses the line
into unlawful or criminal behavior. Cyberbullying cases have increased recently but there
are a few solutions to curb this problem which are increase privacy on social media
accounts, raising awareness, and creating a safer environment.
Firstly, increase privacy on social media accounts is an effective way to curb the
cyberbullying problem in society. As a social media user, we should always be careful
and more alert with our surroundings. It is because we are surrounded with many
individual with various personalities. Nowadays, cyberbullying became a hot topic in
society and in news and newspapers. This issue occurs because many people do not take
it seriously and always share about their personal information to social media. Most
importantly, they should know that what they post can be shared with people that they do
not know and almost anything they make public is out of their control. Therefore, we
need to be aware and start taking steps before bad things happen to us or our family. For
example, we should not upload our own privacy to media social like number phone,
address, family information and our location to social media. It is because there are many
hacker out there which who can easily trace our information and do anything to our social
media account. So, increase privacy on social media accounts is the best way to stop this
cyberbullying issue.
Furthermore, this is a good way to raise awareness in society to curb the
cyberbullying. It is obvious that bringing awareness whether it is through a club, a
movement or an event because knowledge is power. Educators should form a committee
that will discuss and control the teething troubles of cyberbullying. They can make
policies and guidelines containing cyberbullying reporting structure. For example,
making a society for adults to send an integrated message in contradiction of
cyberbullying. Awareness can be brought to kids at school by their educators or at home
by their parents, siblings, and trusted adults. It is very significant to make this topic
known to teachers, parents, and students for the same reasons and so they can help
support and get kids out of situations involving cyberbullying. Thus, by raising awareness
is the best way to curb this cyberbullying issue.
Lastly, along with making sure that people understand what cyberbullying is, it is
also important to make it clear that coming forward with reports of cyberbullying will be
respected and protected. As example, students need to feel that they will be protected
from retaliation if they report cyberbullying. Students need to know that their reports of
bullying will be believed and taken seriously. If students feel that their concerns are taken
seriously, they may be more likely to report being the victims of cyberbullying. This
means that individual students can receive one-on-one help, advice and intervention that
is unique to their situation. Additionally, if all students believe that cyberbullying is a
serious case, they may be less likely to be the perpetrators of online harassment. One of
the most direct ways to create a safe space is for parents, teachers, support staff, and
administrators to verbalize their willingness to listen to a student's report of
cyberbullying. Addressing it at the beginning of the school year, perhaps with grade level
assemblies, and posting notices in classrooms and hallways can ease a student's anxiety
about who to turn to when it comes to cyberbullying. So, creating a safer environment is
the best way to curb this cyberbullying issue.
To summarize all the information, we can see that cyberbullying is a problem in
societies that are advanced enough to have the technology to connect with other people
online and is not easily fixable. Cyberbullying can affect anyone but is most prominent in
today’s youth. If we can curve out this awful behavior early in their age, they are unlikely
to continue down that path. Unfortunately, this is not an easy task. This will require
schools, and especially parents to be aware of the problem and act on it. Eliminating
cyberbullying will take a combined effort and won't be eliminated over night. If the
government is willing to accept that cyberbullying is a problem, laws can be put in place
to help discourage this activity. Even still, parents and schools should eliminate and stop
this behavior now, then laws shouldn’t be necessary. So, schools and parents be aware of
what kids are doing on the internet and their phones, and act if they are doing something
that they shouldn’t be.
GROUP 6 (QUESTION 3)
Handphone addiction among small children is worrying. Write an essay suggesting
ways to prevent this problem.
The mobile phone has become a central part of every human being’s life.
Everyone these days is pinned to their cell phones. Mobile phones enable us to coddle in
online shopping, online games, and many more. Also these days, everyone needs to have
a mobile phone because it is one of the platforms that we can interact with other people
and as a needed for school due to this pandemic. Mobile phones are designed for our
convenience and our benefit. However, most people did not use their smartphones
smartly and become addict to their mobile phones, especially for the young generation.
How many people are addicted to mobile phones? Smartphone addiction statistics report
that 66% of people are addicted to their mobile phones. it is necessary not to fall victim to
it as its consequences could be damaging. This is because its effects are dangerous.
Mobile addiction causes several problems such as weakened vision, headache, sleep
disorders, depression, stress, ruined relationships, and more. We need to prevent
ourselves from these things, especially for the young generation because they are still
young. There are a lot of ways to prevent phone addiction among small children such as
parents need to set family rules, arrange best activities for their children, the school held a
talk to children about handphones, and turn off push notifications as much as possible.
First and foremost, in order to control handphone addiction among children,
family rules can be set. By having family rule, the usage of the device can be restricted.
Family rule can build the discipline of the children as they would have to obey the rules
in order to get something they wanted. For example, by setting a dining table manners,
where the kids are told to not use the handphone when sitting at the table or when they
are eating. Not that they would comply to this rule at instant, so, we need to be sure to
warn them the harm of eating while focusing on the phone such as that they would choke
on their food if they did not pay attention to the food. Other than that, when sitting on the
table it is the time for each of the family members to open up and have bonding time,
where the children can talk about their problems or if they have fun trivia’s to be shared.
Sometimes it is better to have them rewarded for having good behaviour, such that no
bickering with the siblings or fights with the neighbours, so that, they can play with the
handphone for at least an hour. With this being said, it is beneficial to set family rule in
order to control handphone addiction among children for it can help to distract them from
having too much time with the handphone and spend a bit of time with the family
members.
Besides that, parents must be wise in arranging interesting daily activities for their
children. Parents also have been known to do anything to protect and be with their little
boys and girls. The best way to keep your kids away from phone is by encouraging them
to do outdoor activities. However busy the job schedule, parents should always be some
time set aside when the family comes together and spends time as unit to make sure
children feel more attention and forget about the handphone. For instance, they can do
gardening, watering plants, visiting park and so on. Outdoor activity has many benefits
like it can be a good sport alternative or the way to keep their bodies fit and healthy. A
child gets bored when he continuously stays inside the house and they use the phone to
have fun. Parents can also invite relatives, neighbours and friends to do activities together
to make sure they become more fun. Thus, when parents engage them in outdoor
activities, they get distracted and forget about phone.
Other than that, one of the ways to prevent this problem is school administrator
should prepare a talk about handphone addiction among small children. This is because
they need to give awareness to small children about handphone addiction. Small children
are needed to know about handphone addiction when they were still young because they
can develop their mind about handphone addition can cause many disadvantages to
themselves. This is to prevent them from getting various health problem and sleeping
issues. For example, small children who are addicted to their handphones can contribute
to sleep deprivation and it can affect their growth development at an early age. Another
example is when small children are too addicted to their handphones, it can contribute to
obesity because they are rarely to do exercise that can makes them from sweating which
acts to maintain healthy weight. Thus, this shows that the talk about handphone addiction
among small children can open their mind to think more about disadvantages of
handphone addiction and this is one of the ways to educate them.
Last but not least, another way to reduce handphone addiction among young
children is to turn off push notifications as much as possible on their handphones.
Notification is one of the distractions they need to go through when the children do their
work. For example, when your friend is texting you and the notification is popped up
when you do your homework, you will quickly pick up your phone and try to reply to the
text as quickly as possible and at the end, you will get stuck on your phone and did not
complete the homework. By turning off push notifications on their phone, it doesn’t
bother them once the notification does not pop up anymore. Children will not get
distracted when they do other things such as homework and could do their homework at
ease. They can keep the apps that can encourage themselves to use as those for reading or
learning. I believe, by turning off push notifications as much as possible could reduce
young children's phone addiction.
In conclusion, mobile phone addiction can destroy our life if it is not stopped on
time. As much as we ignore it, mobile addiction has grown into a big problem today.
There are a lot of ways to prevent handphone addiction among young children such as set
family rules, parents need to arrange the best activities for their children, the school held
a talk to children about handphones and turn off as much as possible. It is important for
everyone to play their role to prevent phone addiction to young children.
GROUP 7 (QUESTION 7)
Unemployment among graduates is a serious problem.
Write an essay on suggesting solutions to address it.
Nowadays, unemployment among graduates is a serious problem. As a matter of
fact, this issue has become a great controversy among people from all walks of life
especially in our beloved nation, Malaysia. In 2015 involving 132,900 graduates from
institutions of higher learning all over Malaysia showed that 50% graduates remained
unemployed after graduation, while 9.7% were still awaiting for job placement. One of
the reasons is they lack the relevant skills required in the labour market despite having
excellent academic results. Therefore, this essay will discuss and highlight the solutions
to overcome this problem such as enhancing students’ soft skill and knowledge, taking
the opportunity to participate in internship or industrial training held for them and
changing their attitude for not being choosy and demanding.
First and foremost, graduates should take the opportunity to participate in
programs held by government and non-government agencies. When we join the
programs, there are many things that we can learn at least about how to survive when
students graduate soon. For example, many agencies are collaborated with some
universities and provide industrial training or internship to the graduates. The students
who are interested in that agency must pay full attention when those agencies disseminate
the news. They will gain some experiences by doing internship or industrial training
during college or university time and start to work from the bottom. They can learn how
to adapt to the situation, and it will not affect their mental health because they have been
through that situation before. By doing this, unemployment among graduates can be
addressed because graduates know how to get employability. Therefore, joining all the
career programs and internships or industrial training are the best way to reduce
unemployment among graduates in Malaysia. It can help youths to get jobs and achieve
their potential. Hence, with more and better jobs, the young generation will not only be
able to survive but thrive in today's competitive and globalized world.
Moving on to the second point, unemployment among graduates also can be
solved by themselves for not being choosy and demanding. This means that students
should not spend more time finding scapegoat, pinpointing at people and complain others
when they are unemployed after graduated. For example, they must change their mindsets
and attitude when they are seeking for a job. Students should understand and emphasize
what the skills that the employer are looking for and what the expectation of the
employer. By doing this, the chances of getting a job are higher than just sitting and
complaining. Therefore, students must be discipline themselves for not being too
demanding and blaming others for being unemployed. Hence, by improving ourselves, it
is a better solution to get rid from being a jobless graduate.
Last but not least, unemployment among graduates also can be solve by
enhancing students’ soft skill and knowledge. Lecturers, being the closest people to
students, should continuously encourage them to gain working experience and soft skills
at campus and off campus. Most of the students seem unaware of the importance of
working experience. In order to assist students, a lecturer may use several approaches to
enhance their skills and knowledge. For example. to stimulate the minds of students with
discussions and case studies. This approach may help students integrate their knowledge
and skills with real cases. Apart from that, the lecturer may also allow students to interact
with outsiders or to organize social activities. This will force the students to go out and
expose themselves to the outside world and conduct research as partial fulfillment for
their degree programs. Hence, unemployment among graduates also can be solve by
enhancing students’ soft skill and knowledge.
To sum it up, there are many ways to overcome this graduate unemployment
problem such as enhancing students’ soft skill and knowledge, taking the opportunity to
participate in internship or industrial training held for them and changing their attitude for
not being choosy and demanding. As a saying goes, "All roads lead to Rome". Therefore,
I sincerely hope that my suggestions can keep this serious problem at bay and provide a
better future for the graduates.
