Building a Raised Driveway

The following tutorial was made with beginners
in mind. Although it does use one cheat, no
prior knowledge of this cheat is needed. This
tutorial will show you in a few easy steps how
to easily build a workable driveway on a hill.
Pick the lot you would like to work on and let’s
begin!

Step 1.
The first thing that needs to be done is a driveway laid on the lot. If you don’t know
how to do this, enter build mode and find the icon pictured.

Step 2.
Pick the driveway that you would like to use.
Choose a matching driveway extension piece and
lay it at the end of your driveway. If you are building
your driveway on the left side of your lot, make
sure that it is at least one space away from the
edge of the lot.

Step 3.
Surround the driveway extension piece with walls.
These can be removed later if you do not wish to
have a garage on the lot. For now, we will be using
them as a guide. Adding a garage door at this point
is optional.

Step 4.
This is where the cheat comes in. Open up your cheat
window (ctrl + shift + c) and type in boolprop
ConstrainFloorElevation false. (It is not case
sensitive).
Step 5.
The next thing you are going to want to do is go to
top-down view. With your raise terrain tool, raise
the driveway one click, as shown in the picture.
You want to be in one square from the sidewalk.
As you raise the floor across this line, the grass
will come above the driveway. This will fix itself
later.

Step 6.
Once you have the first line raised one click, use
your level terrain tool to raise the rest of the
driveway (including the enclosed portion) up one
click. You can go out of top-down mode to make
sure that all of the driveway was raised.

Step 7.
You will want to continue this process of raising and
clicking until you reach the square before the
enclosed portion. Do not raise any of the ground
within the enclosed portion (it must remain level).

Step 8.
Once you have raised all of the first driveway
piece, you can go out of top down view to make
sure that the ground has been raised.

Step 9.
Now that the ground has been raised to the desired
point, it is type to turn off the cheat. Open your cheat
window (ctrl + shift + c) and type in boolprop
ConstrainFloorElevation true.
Step 10.
Now you need to save your lot and return to the
neighborhood. We aren’t quite finished though. In
the neighborhood view, you might notice that your
garage seems to be floating. This will not be what it
looks like when you enter the lot, which you should
do.

Step 11.
Your garage should be situated nicely on a small hill at
this point. (The size of the hill can be varied by varying
the clicks that you use in the earlier steps.)

Step 12.
We now need to level the land around the garage to
place our house on the lot. To do this, place your
level terrain tool inside of the garage and drag it
across the lot. The land that you drag the tool
across will raise.

Step 13.
Now we are going to raise the ground around the
driveway. If you do not wish for this ground to be
raised, then skip this step. To raise this land,
simply place your level terrain tool inside of the
garage again and drag across the driveway and
surrounding land. This will raise the land, but not
the driveway (unless you forgot to turn off the cheat
earlier).

Step 14.
If you do not wish to have a garage on your lot, remove
the walls from around the extension piece and add a
carport or leave this piece alone. Then, you can build
your house on the lot.

Step 15.
When the time comes to place a car on your
driveway, there is something important to remember
– for best viewing, the cars should only be placed on
the flat portion of your driveway. If you try to park the
cars on the hill, they will look like they are in the hill.

Conclusion
You should now have a driveway that you and your sims can enjoy. Examples of these raised
driveways can be seen in my Cozy Cottage and Starter Home – Hill. Both of these are available
on The Sims Resource. I hope this tutorial has helped you in your building endeavors. Questions
and comments are always welcome. Happy Simming!
