Introduction: Older adults are often prescribed with a complex regime of medication, but
with limited capabilities in managing medication and activities. Family members play an
important role in this context. However, managing these complex drug regimens can be
difficult and stressful as caregivers may have other responsibilities.

Objective: To explore caregivers’ involvement from several aspects in medication
management of elderly patients with multiple chronic conditions.

Methods: A qualitative study using semi-structured interview. A total of ten subjects were
interviewed. Each interview session lasted between 30 to 45 minutes. Interviews were audio-
recorded, transcribed verbatim and then coded according to themes.

Results: The caregivers were categorised into either actively involved or peripherally
involved. Majority of the participants were actively involved in both medication management
and general health-related assistance. The main involvement of caregivers discovered in this
study were interactions with healthcare providers, medication-taking assistance, successful
strategies in managing medication administration, and challenges in preparing the
medication.

Conclusion: Caregivers play a significant role in improving medication management among
elderly. Therefore, further studies are needed to investigate the needs for extra training for
caregivers in managing patients’ medication at home.

by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The ongoing
COVID-19 pandemic has also caused devastating economic and social disruption in

attitude, and practice (KAP), and its psychological impacts on anxiety and depressive
symptoms among public living in Perlis.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in Perlis, Malaysia from January to
March 2022 among public aged 18 years and above living in Perlis. A 41-item validated online
questionnaire was used in this study to measure knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP)
about COVID-19, anxiety (GAD-7) and depressive symptoms (PHQ-9). All statistical
analyses were conducted in SPSS Version 20.0.

Results: A total of 336 respondents completed the survey. The mean age of respondents
was 38.4 (0.65). Majority of the participants were female (57.1%), Malay (97.6%), Married

(14) was only 19.04%. More than half of the participants answered antibiotics can kill

depression (64.9%), respectively.
