FOREWORD
The West Australian Pianists Competition is an annual event held here in Western Australia
and it is a piano competition of the highest standards attracting pianists of all levels nationally
and internationally. It has helped discover many new talents in piano performance over the
past 14 years. Many who have won our competitions are making music their career
throughout Australia and in other parts of the world. These include Christina Chao,
Alexander Sunman, Shuan Hern Lee, Deborah Ng and others…….
We are very excited to announce that due to our high standards of competition, our first prize
winner of solo recitals will be provided with opportunities to perform at the prestigious
Carnegie Hall, New York, USA in conjunction with Golden Key Music Festival in 2015.
The aims of the competition are:
1) To encourage pianists of all ages to perform in a concert situation
2) To improve the standards of piano playing through friendly competition
3) To provide the opportunity for each individual to be assessed on their performance by
qualified adjudicator(s)
4) To bring people together for the purpose of music making, enjoyment and
entertainment.
5) For students to have a formal pre-examination performance practice
Thank to the sponsors who provide strong support and vital encouragement for these pianists,
we could keep on our high amount of prize money and trophies for the winners this year.
This year we are very privileged and honoured to welcome our adjudicators from
Melbourne, Betty Vergara Pink and from Russia/USA, George Borisov. They are both
concert pianists and adjudicators of many international piano competitions.
In conjunction with our competition, George Borisov will be providing a masterclass and we
hope you could all attend the masterclass and learn from the wonderful educator!
Western Australia Pianist Competition is the only piano competition in WA where the
competitors could perform on world class Fazioli and Kawai concert grand pianos. We are
proudly sponsored by The University of Western Australia and with the sponsorship of
Zenith Music and Snadens to provide the best quality pianos.
May all pianists enjoy your performances!
