fitness centre on the same floor or plan your days out with various excursion trips where our
concierge desk on the ground floor is more than happy to assist.

Mix Bistro is also located on the first floor next to the swimming pool with relaxing view of tropical

Welcome to Thailand!

Thailand is predominantly Buddhist, so many of the customs and traditions in Thai culture are based on
Buddhist values except in the Deep South of the country where many people are Muslim.

The country is famously known as the “Land of Smiles” because of the cheerful nature of its people. However
foreigners should be aware of some simple customs and etiquette as well as certain comments or actions which
should always be avoided. As you have just arrived we would like to take this opportunity to offer you the
following information of Thailand’s ‘Do’s and Dont’s to help you to have a more pleasant stay.

Thailand Do’s

Do say “Sawasdee Krab” for men or “Sawasdee Ka” for women when greeting Thai people.
Do greet but instead of shaking hands press the palms of your hands in a prayer-like gesture called ‘Wai’.

Generally a younger person should ‘Wai’ an older person, who will then return it.
Do use “Khun” as the honorific title before a person’s first name.
Do dress appropriately when visiting temples and religious sites.
Do respect all Buddha images and always treat any image of a Buddha and Buddhist monks with extreme respect.
Do always ask for permission before taking pictures of anyone.
Do avoid kissing or hugging in public.
Do remove shoes before entering a Thai home.
Do try to learn a couple of Thai words and phrases.

Thailand Don’ts!

Don’t express negative opinions about the King or any member of the Royal Family. Thai people have utmost
respect for the Thai monarchy. The King is very highly regarded, almost universally, as evidenced by his
pictures displayed everywhere.

Don’t point anything or anyone with your feet, hold doors open with your feet, point your feet to the Buddha
images and or touch monks.

Don’t get involved with drugs. Penalties are very severe from ten years up to the death penalty for trafficking.
Don’t touch a Thai person on the head.

Thai Phrases

Below is a selection of everyday Thai words and phrases for tourists to know. In general Thais do speak
adequate English but appreciate it when foreigners can speak a word or two in Thai.

Thais place an enormous importance on being polite and having an easy going personality “Jai Yen”
(cool heart). It is considered polite to end a phrase with the word “Khrap”, for a male speaker, and “Kha”,
for a female speaker. Therefore “Thank you” would be - “Kop Khun Khrap”, for a man and “Kop Khun Kha”,
for a woman.

Conversing in Thai also requires one additional skill which is easily learned. Smiling while communicating
is Thai culture and opens doors to hearts. Below is a list of common Thai phrases which might be useful
during your stay in the Kingdom.

Krabi Province:
is located 814 kms. From Bangkok along Highway No.4 via Phetchahuri, Prachuap Kiri Khan, Chumphon,
Ranong and Phangnga. Five kilometers before the town, the highway runs parallel to Krabi River featuring
the very beautiful scenery of a river flowing between two mountain ranges.

Krabi is located on the coastline of the Indian Ocean bordering Amphuer Phra Saeng of Surat Thani and Tap
Put of Phangnga to the north, Trang and the Andaman Sea to the south, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Trang to
the east, Phangnga and the Andaman Sea to the west.

It occupies an area of 4,708 square kilometers, administratively divided into 8 Amphuers or districts: Muang,
Ao Luk, Khao Phamom, Khlong Thorm, Ko Lanta, Plai Phraya, Lam Thap and Nua Khlong.

The general geographic condition consists of mountains, hills, plains and more than 130 small islands off the
coast. The still pristine jungles Include white mangrove and mangrove forests. The soil is mostly sandy Clay
and rich loam, perfect for rubber, palm, cashew nut, coffee and Coconut plantations.

Local Surroundings:
Phi Phi Island, approximately 1 hour by speed boat (swimming and snorkeling)
Pranang Cave, approximately 10 minutes by speed boat (sight seeing)
Porda Island, approximately 15 minutes by speed boat (swimming, snorkeling & sunbathing)
Chicken Island, approximately 20 minutes by speed boat (swimming and snorkeling)
Krabi Town, approximately 25 minutes by bus (shopping, sight seeing)
Huiyto Waterfall, approximately 1 hour drive (sight seeing)
Hot Spring & Crystal Pool approximately 1.5 hours drive (swimming and sight seeing)

Beach/Public & Long Tail boats:
All beaches in the area are public; therefore please respect the local culture as any form of nudity is not
accepted. Beach conditions can fluctuate from time to time in the year with variances in sea and tide
conditions. Please follow the advice of the marine department’s daily weather and sea conditions for both
swimming and water sports. Please be aware that the long tail boat operators are just that and if you
choose to use their services please be aware of varying charges which can change dramatically all the time.

Jellyfish:
Beware of the Fire Jelly Fish on the high tides from August to October. If stung an uncomfortable burning
sensation will be felt but it is not fatal. Please seek first aid treatment as soon as practical.

Climate:
Thailand has a tropical climate with three seasons:

Cool Season:
The northeast monsoon comes from Central Asia and usually blows from November to February, bringing
relatively cool, dry conditions to the country.

Hot Season:
Between the 2 monsoons, March to May, the land heats up creating an area of low pressure. Eventually the
high pressure over the Indian Ocean moves inland and the monsoon cycle begins again. The word monsoon
comes from the Arabic maws in or season. It refers to South Asia’s seasonal winds (not the heavy rains).
In Thailand, the southwest monsoon is the rainy season; the northeast monsoon is dry or cool season.
Temperature change is rather minor between the seasons.

leaving the room or when doors or windows are open.
• Use windows for natural light during the day, instead of lights.

Water Conservation: We have implemented water conservation practices by asking our valued guests to place our
‘Environmental Card’ on the side of the bed if you wish not to have your bed sheets being changed daily as well
as placing your used towel on the towel rack and it will not be laundered daily. This practice will help us to save
thousands of litres of fresh water a month while also reducing wastewater and reducing the use of
chemical and energy resources.

Green tips:

• Use towels and bed linens more than once. We offer a card for you to place on the bed allowing you to use
the same linens throughout your stay.

• Do not leave water running while brushing teeth.
• Take shorter showers.

Waste Management and Recycling: Centara Hotels & Resorts is committed to preserving our environment and
we have instituted our recycling programmers. In each hotel we have established a recycling system for all kind of
materials, including paper, plastics, glass, metals and cardboard. Most of the materials in guest rooms are
collected and recyclable such as cans, bottles, newspapers, magazines and paper. We are determined to
preserve a healthy environment. Of our bathroom amenities are made from environmentally friendly packaging.

All paper packaging is recycled.
All bottles are manufactured in clear PET and can be recycled.
All bottled ingredients and soaps are biodegradable.

Green tips:

• Recycle glass, plastic and paper.
• Bring your own toiletries to minimize waste from the prepackaged toiletries.
• Use public transportation and/or walk or ride bicycles, which the location offers.
