PALMS PLUS 2 Happy Reading D. Senthil Kannan May 2024 Thriving amidst di erences read something like this, “Friends, please don't fight over politics with your friends friends and relatives and ruin your beautiful beautiful relationship tionship. In a few days, the election will be over, and your favourite candidate will go away. If you fall, it is your friend who will rush to you for help and not the election candidate.” A few days back, I received a WhatsApp forward that read something like this, “Friends, please don't fight over politics with your friends and relatives and ruin your beautiful relationship. In a few days, the election will be over, and your favourite candidate will go away. If you fall, it is your friend who will rush to you for help and not the election candidate.” Though positioned as a joke, it is so profound. We see so much of arguments everywhere, over several things such as politics, religion, cinema, technology, industrialization, environment, social changes, law, and more. Everyone has a strong standpoint and is convinced that only they are right, and all others are wrong. I feel that this sort of thinking is a deterrent to existing friendships and to make new ones. Being adamant in our views and opinions, will only distance us from our existing friends and shun us away from potential friends. This made me ponder, is it possible to co-exist peacefully, in a world where there are so much of di erences? With some deep reflection, I felt we could. Let us look at a few potential areas, where there can be di erences of opinion or arguments and see how we can handle it in a more congenial manner. There could be two friends, one is a believer, and another is an atheist. Well, the believer friend may like to visit a place of worship and the atheist friend may think it is a waste of time. However, as a friend, he can be considerate enough to accompany him. There is no need for him, to worship but he can respect the sentiments of his friend and just go along with him. Similarly, there may be two friends belonging to di erent religions. Their ideology of God or their way of worship may be di erent. However, if they can embrace the thought that “All paths lead to the same truth”, they can learn to respect the di erences and appreciate the similarities. Instead of arguing about which God is mightier or which religion is right, we can choose to celebrate, greet each other, and exchange gifts with friends during the respective festivals. Another area of conflict can be lifestyle di erences, which might result from religion, culture, or just philosophy. For instance, being a Vegetarian or NonVegetarian is one's choice, which could be based on one's values or religious beliefs. Quite often when we travel or go for an outing, we can be a little adaptive, to ensure that everyone's need is taken care of. I can go to a non-vegetarian hotel and have vegetarian food. Similarly, the non-vegetarian friend can be considerate enough to see that the non-vegetarian restaurant they are going to has enough Vegetarian options on the menu. The same goes for consuming liquor. It is so normal nowadays, that friends chill out over a drink. One friend might want to enjoy a drink, while to the other it might be against his principles. However, instead of condemning the other as a drunkard, he can still give company and enjoy the electrifying ambience of the party. Similarly, the friend who drinks can be sensitive to his friend's preference, and not persuade him to drink. In fact, having a friend who doesn't drink, can ensure that he can drive you home safely. Another area of conflict is often about, which Nation is superior. Everyone is proud of their own country and there is nothing wrong with it. However, it should not be at the cost of degrading another. Mr.Vedhachalam, a famous Tamil historian and archaeologist, conveyed this beautifully, during one of his speeches. “To everyone, their Nation is like their mother. Your mother is best to you and for your friend, his mother is best to him. There is no way, we can compare and make the other person accept that your mother is superior, because it is something personal and emotional.” I think the same applies to Politics, Everyone has a favourite political party or leader, for their own reasons. We have to understand everyone has the right, to have their own opinion and learn to accept the di erences and move on. All of us have some pet ideologies, but that shouldn't interfere with our friendship. Good friendship is about transcending these mental limitations and connecting on an emotional level, through empathy and understanding. Finding the common ground is the basis of any friendship and let not the di erences deter your friendship.
May 2024 Yours Positively, D. Senthil Kannan The Indian Lok Sabha Poll 2024, which is also fondly called the greatest Indian festival has begun. The war for political power between NDA (National Democratic Alliance) and INDIA Block (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) is on. With the election going on, people are both excited and anxious about the future of the political leadership of the country. The Lok Sabha elections are held to elect 543 members. To form a government, a party or coalition needs to secure a majority of at least 50%, which is 272 seats. With about 987 million eligible voters, there is a need to ensure there is maximum polling to give a fair representation of people's voices, which is the beauty of democracy. However, the highest percentage of turnout for Lok Sabha Polls has been 67%. Imagine the voluminous impact of 33% of eligible voters not voting. It amounts to almost 325 million people, which can sabotage the chance of an ideal candidate winning. When people think that their vote doesn't make a big difference, and don't turn up to vote, there can be a lopsided victory. Some candidates lose by a big margin of vote difference, but many candidates lose by a small margin. In such a scenario your vote could have been a game changer. To ensure that there is a higher percentage of polling, the Election Commission of India has rolled out the SVEEP campaign (Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation), to ensure better electoral participation. A lot of awareness has been created through this initiative, in the form of hoardings, posters, media awareness, and so on. But still, it is ultimately in the hands of the eligible voter, to cast their vote or not. The quality of a leader is determined by the quality of followers. If you want a good leader, then it is your time to make your choice. It is just one opportunity we have in 5 years, to make our voice heard. The majority opinion may be as per your choice or against it, but that doesn't matter. What matters is you have made your choice and cast your vote! Hidden in the accusatory tone is also anger or dissatisfaction that may or may not be related to the incident per se. B: Easygoing and understanding in your attitude, you generally consider your partner equal to yourself. The readiness with which you tolerate your partner's errors indicates a desire to be treated the same way in similar situations. The relationship may be a truly sweet one, but possibly hidden in the attitude is also a certain amount of insecurity.

PALMS PLUS 5 May 2024 The Balancing Act – Laissez Faire Vs Micromanagement E ective leadership is an art that involves navigating various management styles to create a harmonious and productive work environment. Two extremes on the leadership spectrum are the laissez-faire approach, characterized by a hands-o management style, and micromanagement, which involves excessive control and scrutiny over team activities. Striking the right balance between these two extremes is crucial for achieving optimal team performance. Understanding Laissez Faire Management: The term "laissez faire" translates to "leave it be" in French, encapsulating the essence of this management style. Leaders adopting laissez-faire management provide minimal guidance and allow team members the autonomy to chart their course toward project completion. This approach is particularly e ective when dealing with a self-motivated and capable team. The freedom granted by laissez-faire management can foster creativity, encourage self-reliance, and allow individuals to explore innovative solutions. However, it may falter in situations that demand a structured framework, clear direction, and a higher level of accountability. Understanding Micromanagement: On the opposite end of the spectrum is micromanagement, a leadership style characterized by an excessive level of control and scrutiny. Micromanagers hover over their team members, questioning decisions, and o ering unsolicited advice at every juncture. This approach often stems from a lack of trust or a desire for control. Unfortunately, micromanagement tends to hinder rather than enhance team productivity. It can lead to demoralized and stifled team members who feel constrained and undervalued. Suboptimal outcomes may result from team members feeling incapable of contributing their unique skills and expertise. The Consequences of Extremes: When taken to extremes, both laissez-faire and micromanagement can have detrimental e ects on team dynamics and organizational success. A laissez-faire approach may lead to a lack of structure, accountability, and direction, resulting in confusion and a potential decline in productivity. In contrast, micromanagement creates an environment where team members may feel micromanaged, stifled, and unable to showcase their capabilities. Recognizing the pitfalls of these extremes is the first step toward achieving a more balanced and e ective leadership style. Striking a Balance: Successful leadership lies in finding the delicate balance between laissez-faire and micromanagement. Leaders must assess the unique needs of their team, the nature of the project, and the individual capabilities of team members. A balanced approach involves providing clear expectations and setting goals while also o ering the necessary support. Simultaneously, it requires granting autonomy to team members for creati ve problem-sol v ing and independent decision-making. This equilibrium ensures a productive and motivated team capable of achieving organizational goals while fostering a positive work culture. L e a r n i n g t o D e l e g a t e a n d E m p o w e r : Micromanagement often arises from a reluctance to delegate tasks due to a lack of trust or a fear of losing control. Leaders must recognize the significance of delegation in empowering their team members and fostering a sense of ownership. By learning to delegate e ectively, leaders can distribute responsibilities based on individual strengths, build trust within the team, and create a more e icient and empowered workforce. In the complex landscape of leadership, the ability to strike the right balance between laissez-faire and micromanagement is a skill that sets exceptional leaders apart. Understanding the strengths and limitations of each management style allows leaders to tailor their approach to the specific needs of the team and the demands of the project. A balanced leadership style ensures a motivated, engaged, and productive team capable of achieving organizational goals while cultivating a positive work culture.

PALMS PLUS 8 May 2024 - N C Sridharan www.thetimefoundation.com In our daily lives, excuses can quietly stop us from reaching our dreams. Let's take morning exercise, for example. We might want to do it, but hitting the snooze button feels easier than getting up. The coziness of the bed often wins over the idea of a healthier morning routine. Excuses might seem harmless, but they create limits around us, like invisible chains we put on ourselves. The saying "Our excuses become our limits" is true. It means we have to break free from the reasons and justifications we use to hold ourselves back. Fear of the unknown, resistance to change, and sticking to what we know well contribute to our excuses. It could be the fear of failing, putting things o , or just sticking to the same old routine. The more we give in to these excuses, the more they hold us back in our personal and work lives. To break these limits, we need to make a conscious e ort. First, we have to recognize the excuses holding us back – taking a moment to see the barriers we create. Then, we need to take responsibility, own our choices, and not blame others. Setting clear and realistic goals is crucial. Having a clear vision makes it harder to justify the excuses we used to think were insurmountable. Developing a growth mindset helps us embrace challenges and see failures as steps towards progress. Having supportive people around us is vital. Positivity and encouragement from others help counteract the negativity excuses bring. Breaking big goals into smaller steps makes the journey to success less overwhelming, reducing the power of excuses. Visualization is a powerful tool to overcome selfdoubt. When we picture ourselves achieving our goals, it strengthens a positive mindset, breaking down the excuses in our way. In the end, succeeding in our personal and work life means consciously pushing past these self-imposed limits. It's about breaking free from the excuses, unlocking our full potential, and embracing the endless possibilities waiting beyond the limits we once accepted. OUR EXCUSES BECOME OUR LIMITS The most di icult doubt to clarify is self doubt. The highest form of confidence is self confidence. The maximum respect a person can earn is self respect. The maximum worth a person can acquire is self worth. The best image is self image. The highest form of conviction is self conviction. The maximum support a person can get is self support. Many of us look for external help and depend on external resources to motivate us. But the truth is the fact we decide the quality of our life. We have the driving force inside. No one can motivate us unless and until we motivate ourselves. If we do not feel enthusiastic inside us, we will not display enthusiasm outside us. We certainly need the help and support of people outside us. But that can only supplement what we already have. Let me give the example of an automobile which is stuck on the road. Others can give it a slight push. But the driver should know how to make of the push to start the engine. If he refuses to do so, no matter how much others push the car, the car will not start! If we are not basically convinced, we will find ways and means to avoid a course of action suggested by others. We need to believe in ourselves and be confident that we will succeed come what may. If we don't have self belief, this will even reflect in our physiology and will invite others to share the same feeling. The most e ective self development programme is to have a lot of self talk. If your sunshine wants far outstrip your cold morning desire, have a talk with yourself. Then have a lot more talks with yourself. Convince number one that you can succeed--and you will succeed. If you don't believe in you, why should anyone else? - Tom Hopkins

PALMS PLUS 9 May 2024 Mrs.Archana Stalin Archana Stalin's entrepreneurial journey is a testament to the resilience, determination, and innovative spirit that characterize true leaders. Despite encountering setbacks early in her career, Archana refused to be deterred, viewing each obstacle as an opportunity for growth and learning. Her entrepreneurial odyssey began with Geoverge, a geospatial company founded with her husband, Stalin Kalidoss. However, despite their e orts, Geoverge eventually faced closure, leaving Archana and Stalin grappling with disappointment and uncertainty. Rather than allowing this setback to define them, the couple embraced it as a valuable lesson in the complexities of business, recognizing the need for thorough research and strategic planning. Undeterred by their initial failure, Archana and Stalin embarked on a new venture that would ultimately redefine their entrepreneurial journey. Drawing upon their shared passion for organic farming and sustainable living, they founded myHarvest Farms, a company dedicated to delivering fresh, organic produce to consumers in Chennai. Starting small with terrace gardening, Archana and Stalin quickly realized the limitations of this approach and sought to expand their operations. Leasing a twoacre farmland in Tiruvallur district, they established Vembu Farms, a community of organic farmers and consumers united by a common commitment to environmental stewardship and healthy living. The early years of myHarvest Farms were marked by perseverance, hard work, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Despite facing numerous challenges, including navigating the complexities of agricultural production and distribution, Archana remained steadfast in her determination to succeed. By fostering partnerships with local farmers and suppliers, Archana and Stalin were able to gradually expand their product o erings and reach a wider audience. Their dedication to qualit y and sustainability earned them the trust and loyalty of their customers, laying the foundation for myHarvest Farms' future success. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic presented yet another challenge for Archana and her team at myHarvest Farms. As supply chains faltered and traditional business models were upended, they were forced to adapt quickly in order to survive. Implementing an order-based, cash-on-delivery model, they were able to ensure the continued availability of their products while also meeting the evolving needs of their customers. Rather than simply weathering the storm, she saw the pandemic as an opportunity to strengthen and grow her business, seizing the moment to innovate and expand their o erings. Central to myHarvest Farms' success is its focus on community engagement and education. Archana understands that building a sustainable future requires more than just selling products – it requires fostering meaningful connections between consumers and the source of their food. Through initiatives such as farm visits and educational programs, she seeks to empower individuals to make informed choices about their health and the environment. As myHarvest Farms continues to grow and evolve, Archana remains committed to her mission of promoting sustainable agriculture and healthy living. With plans to reach 10,000 families and work with 500 farmers in the coming years, her vision for the future is bold and ambitious. “This is the community that I am aspiring to build,”says Archana. “We want to bring people closer to nature, closer to good food. Importantly, we want to build a healthier community.” In Archana Stalin, we find not just an entrepreneur, but a visionary leader who is reshaping the way we think about food, farming, and community. Her journey is a testament to the power of resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to one's values. Cofounder - myHarvest Farms
Dr Nirmala Vijaykumar MD(OG), MRCOG Consultant Gynecologist Queens Fertility Center, Tirunelveli PALMS PLUS 10 May 2024 THE MALE MENOPAUSE – LATE ONSET HYPOGONADISM (LOH) As we humans live longer and longer, our quality of life is gaining importance. One of such issues is the Male menopause, Andropause, also known as Late Onset Hypogonadism (LOH). “Andras” in Greek means Male and “Pause” indicates cessation. Unlike the sudden onset of the female menopause, the male menopause is gradual in onset as the male testosterone levels decrease 1% every year after midlife. The symptoms of this condition are common. They include: 1. Reduced sexual libido 2. Mild irritability and impatience 3. Sleep disturbances 4. Erectile Dysfunction 5. Fatigue with reduction in muscle mass (sarcopenia) 6. Depression All these symptoms can occur in many other conditions such as Thyroid dysfunction or Chronic alcoholism, for example, and hence a diagnosis of Late Onset Hypothyroidism should be made after checking serum Testosterone levels and ruling out other disorders. Decreased libido and erectile dysfunction is what makes the men to seek medical help, as, otherwise they get regular early morning erections. Why do Testosterone levels decrease? A gradual decline in Testosterone is normal but some of the conditions that can cause Male menopause are Obesity, Diabetes, COPD of the lungs and viral infections. Also, the environmental plastic pollution may accelerate the process because they contain Estrogen like compounds that reduce the amount of free testosterone. A man su ering from any of the above symptoms should get checked by a physician and have blood tests to assess his general health and hormone levels. A scan to check for fatty liver and enlarged prostate gland can be done. If he is otherwise healthy but has low serum Testosterone, Testosterone supplements can be given either as skin gels, tablets or injections. Testosterone supplements may help diabetic control and correct anaemia too. Here are some of the lifestyle changes that have been proven to boost Serum Testosterone levels. 1. Good sleep of 7-8 hours at night 2. Muscle strengthening exercises for arms and thighs. 3. Nuts and seeds in daily diet. 4. Fenugreek seeds (vendhayam) as a part of food or sprouts. Once a person starts Testosterone therapy, an improvement in general mood and sexual vitality is often noticed within 3 months. Often there is an improvement in memory too. If there is no change, the treatment can be discontinued. In good moods, things don't feel so hard, problems seem less formidable and easier to solve. When you're in a good mood, relationships seem to flow and communication is easy. If you are criticized, you take it in stride. On the contrary, when you're in a bad mood, life looks unbearably serious and di icult. You have very little perspective. PALMS PLUS 13 May 2024 Authenticity in a Marriage In the labyrinth of marital advice, one guiding principle stands tall: authenticity. It's the cornerstone upon which enduring relationships are built. Let's delve deeper into the essence of authenticity within the marital realm, exploring its multifaceted dimensions and its profound impact on the dynamics of a union. First and foremost, authenticity beckons us to shed the veils of pretence and embrace our true selves within the sanctity of marriage. All too often, individuals feel compelled to mould themselves into a predetermined archetype of the ideal spouse, erroneously believing that this facade will pave the path to matrimonial bliss. However, such dissonance between one's authentic self and the projected persona inevitably breeds discord, sowing seeds of discontent beneath the veneer of harmony. Dr. Chawla's wisdom resonates powerfully here: by embracing our true selves unabashedly from the outset, we foster an environment where acceptance flourishes e ortlessly. When both partners can behold each other authentically, devoid of the trappings of artifice, the foundation of their bond becomes unshakable, fortified by the raw beauty of genuine connection. Furthermore, authentic marital bliss blossoms when we extend the olive branch of acceptance towards our partners, embracing them for who they truly are. Too often, we view our significant others through the distorted lens of our own experiences, projecting our biases and misconceptions onto their words and actions. Dr. Chawla implores us to transcend this myopic perspective, urging us to listen earnestly and empathetically to our partners' truths, unencumbered by the shadows of our own insecurities. Genuine acceptance requires us to relinquish the impulse to filter their expressions through the sieve of our own narratives, instead embracing their authenticity with open hearts and receptive minds. In this sacred space of unconditional acceptance, the seeds of trust and understanding take root, nurturing a bond that transcends the confines of ego and self-interest. Moreover, the journey of matrimony unfolds as a kaleidoscope of change, demanding our willingness to adapt and evolve alongside our partners. Dr. Chawla underscores the inevitability of change within the marital landscape, emphasizing the importance of flexibility and resilience in navigating its unpredictable terrain. Indeed, the ebb and flow of life's currents may steer us onto unforeseen trajectories, challenging us to relinquish the comfort of familiarity and embrace the unknown with courage and grace. By cultivating an attitude of openness towards change, couples can traverse the myriad twists and turns of their shared journey with equanimity, fortified by the knowledge that growth is the lifeblood of enduring relationships. In essence, authenticity serves as the linchpin of marital fulfillment, weaving a tapestry of honesty, acceptance, and resilience that fortifies the bond between partners. Dr. Sweta Chawla's insights illuminate the path towards a harmonious union, reminding us that true happiness lies not in the pursuit of an idealized facade, but in the unfiltered authenticity of genuine connection. As we embark on the journey of marriage, let us heed her wisdom, embracing our true selves and our partners with unwavering sincerity, and embracing the winds of change with open arms. For it is in the crucible of authenticity that the flame of enduring love burns brightest, illuminating the path towards a lifetime of shared joy and fulfillment.
PALMS PLUS 14 May 2024 Kotter's 8-Step Change Model Implementing Change Powerfully and Successfully Change is inevitable – it's a constant force shaping our world, just as it was over 2,000 years ago when Heraclitus, the Greek philosopher, famously said, "Change is the only constant." In today's dynamic business environment, change is not just common; it's essential for survival and growth. Whether it's adapting to new technologies, responding to competitive pressures, or implementing innovative initiatives, organizations are constantly faced with the need to evolve. Yet, despite the necessity of change, many find themselves daunted by the prospect of navigating through it. Whether it's a small adjustment to processes or a large-scale organi zational trans formation, the challenges can seem overwhelming. How does one even begin to initiate change? Who should be involved? And how can you ensure successful implementation? Enter John Kotter, a renowned change management expert and professor at Harvard Business School. In his seminal work, "Leading Change," Kotter introduced the eight-step change process, providing a roadmap for e ectively navigating through organizational change. Let's delve into each step of Kotter's model and explore how to implement change powerfully and successfully. Step 1: Create Urgency: The first step in Kotter's model emphasizes the importance of generating a sense of urgency within the organization. Without a compelling reason to change, inertia can set in, making it di icult to mobilize stakeholders. To create urgency, leaders must communicate the need for change e ectively, highlighting potential threats and opportunities in the external environment. By fostering open dialogue and garnering support from key stakeholders, leaders can ignite the motivation needed to propel the change forward. To maximize the likelihood of success, Kotter suggests that at least 75% of the organization's management must buy into the change. Therefore, investing time and e ort in building urgency is crucial before proceeding to subsequent steps. Step 2: Form a Powerful Coalition: E ective change requires strong leadership and visible support from key influencers within the organization. Rather than relying solely on hierarchical authority, leaders must assemble a diverse coalition of change agents who possess varied sources of power and expertise. By rallying these influential individuals around a common vision, leaders can harness their collective e orts to drive change forward. Building trust and fostering emotional commitment among coalition members are essential components of this step. Additionally, ensuring a balanced representation of stakeholders from di erent departments and levels within the organization can enhance the coalition's e ectiveness. Step 3: Create a Vision for Change: A clear and compelling vision serves as a guiding beacon for organizational change. By articulating the desired future state in succinct terms, leaders provide stakeholders with a tangible framework for understanding the purpose and direction of the change. Aligning the vision with the organization's core values and strategic objectives enhances its resonance and fos ters al i gnment among stakeholders. Crafting a concise vision statement and developing a strategy to realize that vision are critical tasks in this step. Leaders must ensure that the change coalition
PALMS PLUS 15 May 2024 can articulate the vision e ectively, enabling widespread understanding and commitment among stakeholders. Step 4: Communicate the Vision: E ective communication is essential for translating the vision into action and sustaining momentum throughout the change process. Leaders must disseminate the vision consistently and convincingly, embedding it within all aspects of organizational culture and operations. By fostering open dialogue, addressing concerns, and leading by example, leaders can inspire confidence and commitment among stakeholders. Consistency and authenticity are key principles of communication in this step. Leaders should integrate the vision into daily decision-making and demonstrate alignment between their words and actions, reinforcing the organization's commitment to change. Step 5: Remove Obstacles: Even with a compelling vision and widespread buy-in, organizational change can encounter resistance and barriers. Leaders must proactively identify and address obstacles that hinder progress, whether they stem from structural, cultural, or individual factors. By aligning organizational structures, processes, and incentives with the change objectives, leaders can empower stakeholders and facilitate the implementation of the change initiative. Identifying change leaders, realigning organizational structures, and addressing resistance are essential strategies for overcoming obstacles. By fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, leaders can cultivate an environment conducive to change and innovation. Step 6: Create Short-Term Wins: Celebrating quick wins is essential for maintaining momentum and reinforcing stakeholders' confidence in the change process. By setting achievable short-term goals and delivering tangible results early on, leaders can demonstrate the viability and benefits of the change initiative. Recognizing and rewarding individuals who contribute to these successes can further motivate stakeholders and sustain their engagement. Selecting projects with high probability of success, analysing potential risks, and aligning targets with organizational priorities are critical considerations in this step. By leveraging early successes to build credibility and support, leaders can pave the way for broader acceptance and adoption of the change initiative. Step 7: Build on the Change: Sustaining change requires ongoing e ort and a commitment to continuous improvement. Rather than declaring victory prematurely, leaders must capitalize on early successes to drive further innovation and progress. By fostering a culture of learning and adaptation, leaders can encourage stakeholders to embrace change as an opportunit y for g rowth and development. Analysing successes, setting ambitious goals, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement are essential strategies for building on the change initiative. PALMS PLUS 16 May 2024 Believing in the Journey: A Tale of Faith and Turbulence The man was running late for his flight, but he made it just in time. Breathing heavily, he found his seat between a lady by the window and a young girl by the aisle. They exchanged smiles, and the man noticed the girl was traveling alone. As the plane took o , things suddenly got rough. The plane shook, and the pilot warned of bad weather ahead. People started to worry, some even prayed out loud. The man gripped his seat, sweating, and saying "Oh my God!" with every bump. But the little girl surprised him. She sat calmly, her colouring book away, hands resting in her lap, completely unafraid. After a while, the turbulence stopped, and the plane started to land. Amazed by the girl's bravery, the man asked her how she stayed so calm. Her answer was simple but powerful: "The pilot is My Father and He's Taking Me Home." In that moment, the man understood. The girl's faith made her feel safe, even when things seemed scary. And he realized that sometimes, believing in something bigger than us can make all the di erence. The man couldn't shake o the encounter with the little girl for the rest of the flight. He found himself reflecting on her words and the profound impact they had on him. It wasn't just about the turbulence anymore; it was about a deeper understanding of faith and trust. As the plane descended towards its destination, the man's thoughts wandered back to his own beliefs. He had always considered himself a pragmatic person, relying on logic and reason to navigate through life's challenges. But witnessing the unwavering faith of a young girl amidst uncertainty made him question his own perspective. Arriving at his destination, the man bid farewell to his fellow passengers, but the memory of the little girl lingered. He couldn't shake o the feeling that there was something more to learn from her simple yet profound outlook on life. In the days that followed, the man found himself contemplating the nature of faith and its role in navigating life's uncertainties. He realized that faith isn't just about religious beliefs; it's about trusting in something greater than us, whether it be a higher power, destiny, or the innate goodness of humanity. The encounter with the little girl served as a catalyst for a deeper introspection, prompting the man to reevaluate his own beliefs and priorities. He began to embrace moments of uncertainty with a newfound sense of trust and optimism, recognizing that sometimes, it's okay to let go and have faith in the journey ahead. With each passing day, the man found himself incorporating the lessons learned from the little girl into his daily life. He approached challenges with a renewed sense of courage and resilience, knowing that even in the face of adversity, faith has the power to guide us through the storm towards brighter horizons. As time went on, the memory of the little girl and her unwavering faith became a source of inspiration for the man. Through her simple yet profound words, she imparted a timeless wisdom that transcended the confines of the aircraft, illuminating a path towards greater understanding and inner peace. In the end, the man realized that sometimes, the greatest miracles are not found in extraordinary events, but in the ordinary moments of everyday life. And it is through faith, trust, and an unwavering belief in something greater than us that we can truly find solace amidst life's uncertainties.

PALMS PLUS 17 May 2024 - Pravin K. Sabnis [email protected] Experiential Life Coach, Goa The word “Beshchaulich” has several closely related meanings, such as tranquillity, contemplativeness, introspection, and simplicity, which makes it a unique word. However, in the context of actual usage, it is used to describe, “Contentment found through simplicity.” It is about living a quiet, pensive, simple life unhurried in a fashion that ensures mental well-being. Is this not the type of life so many of us, wish to live? But, paradoxically, we are all driven by our goals, desires, and ambitions, and we are always in a hurry and a stressed mindset, not being able to appreciate the simple things in life. Why is it so? It is because we are constantly comparing ourselves with others. Comparison is a self-created ego battle. There is no sense of accomplishment, because every time we reach there, someone is setting the bar higher. There is so much peer pressure and we are made to believe that we have to keep running, to sustain our position or grow in our careers. I have heard people saying, “After all this maddening career, I want to settle down by the mountains or the countryside and live a peaceful life”. But I don't see a point here. People who get into the rat race, get into a vicious cycle from which they cannot escape until they make peace with themselves. We have all heard about the lifestyle of one of the world's richest people, Warren Bu et. He lives a simple, unhurried life in a remote village, yet he is extraordinarily successful too. All great leaders, be it Mahatma Gandhi or Mother Teresa, have embraced the virtue of simplicity. The foundation of simplicity is self-approval. There is so much joy in simplicity. Living a simple and minimalistic life can help us declutter not only things but also our minds. I remember a movie dialogue, which goes like this: “It is simple to be happy, but it is di icult to be simple.' It is so true. In our frantic search for happiness and fulfillment of desires, we fail to appreciate the many things we already have in life. True joy is found through contentment. Contentment makes us feel rich, irrespective of what we have. If we can learn to find an ideal work-life balance, our life becomes more meaningful and enriching. Beshchaulich is an invitation to live such a life. It is about stopping for a moment from our hurried lifestyle to introspect, on what is important to us and finding peace through contentment. By taking the time, to appreciate all the simple things in nature, which are freely available, we can feel the infinite blessings of God, and feel content and grateful too. Beshchaulich German word – Pronounced “Bee shaalish” Abraham Maslow developed a theory of a hierarchy of human needs, of which the highest were the need for 'selfactualization' through creative and productive living. He considered promoting peace, happiness and building a psychology for the peace table as his task. He had a vision of a peace table, with people sitting around it, talking about human nature and hatred, war and peace, and brotherhood. He wanted to prove that humans are capable of something grander than war, prejudice and hatred. The peace table is an opportunity to work out our problems by talking about them, sharing our feelings and understanding one another more deeply. It helps us to cope with conflicts and helps resolve issues. It requires one person to invite another to have a peace talk. The initiator begins to share feelings by using an “I” message. (I didn't like the way…; I felt sad when…; I was not happy when…) The other person listens and responds. If the problem is not solved they may inv ite a third person (peacekeeper) to the peace table to listen to both sides fairly and then suggest a way to solve the problem. The problem may not be solved completely, or the solution may not make them feel better. When they leave the peace table what they need to take away is the most important part of this whole process, to understand each other better in the situation. Ease the conflict bubble Choose the peace table! PEACE TABLE

Fantasy sports and online gaming have quickly risen to prominence, with India leading the world's mobile gaming market in terms of app downloads and boasting the largest fantasy sports user base. The online gaming sector saw a significant surge in revenue in the recent years and it is expected to continue growing rapidly in the coming years as well. Despite its relative youth, India has already produced several gaming unicorns and stands as one of the fastest-growing job creators in the country. Legality of Online Gaming: But with such rapid growth comes legal and regulatory considerations. The legal status of online gaming in India is a topic of much discussion. While online gaming is generally legal, it is subject to various regulations and caveats. The Public Gambling Act of 1867, the primary legislation governing gambling activities in India, does not explicitly address online gambling, leading to some ambiguity. Additionally, each state has the authority to regulate gambling within its jurisdiction, resulting in a patchwork of laws and regulations across the country. The distinction between games of skill and games of chance further complicates the legal landscape, with games of skill generally considered legal while chance-based games may be subject to gambling laws. Online Gaming under GST Law: In addition to legal considerations, the online gaming industry must also navigate the tax landscape in India. The leviability of Goods and Services Tax (GST) on online games depends on various factors, including the nature of the game, the business model of the gaming platform, and specific provisions of the GST law. GST may be levied on online games that involve the provision of goods or services for a consideration, such as virtual goods, in-game purchases, or subscriptions. The GST liability may vary depending on the business model of the gaming platform, with platforms acting as sellers of goods or services likely to be subject to GST on their revenue. The applicable GST rates and place of supply rules further complicate the tax treatment of online games, especially in cases of cross-border transactions. Litigations under GST: It is not uncommon to see that there are multiple litigations pending at various High Court across all states. It may be noted that the department claimed that online gaming is nothing but supply of service only and issued a Show Cause Notice to M/s. Games Kraft demanding GST of Rs.21,000 crores. However, the said demand was quashed by the Hon'ble Karnataka High Court and an appeal has been filed by the department, against the HC's order, before the Hon'ble Supreme Court. Transfer of all pending cases to SC: It is learnt that the Union Govt. has filed a transfer petition before the Hon'ble Supreme Court seeking transfer of all pending cases lying before various High Courts challenging GST notices issued to Online Gaming Companies. Conclusion: Considering the complexity and the ongoing litigations, the GST Council has taken note of it and discussed elaborately in the recent GST Council's meeting and decided to amend the law/rules suitably in order to avoid litigation.
