Mixture B

Part III. Determine the Mass % of Elements in each Compound:
K2SO4 - Potassium Sulfate
(Show Math Here)
K- (2)40=80/176= 45.5
S-(1)32=32/176= 18.2
O-(4)16= 64/176= 36.4
Total = 176

Na3PO4 - Sodium Phosphate
(Show Math Here)
Na- (3)23= 69/164= 42.1
P- (1)31=31/164=18.9
O-(4)16= 64/164=39
Total= 164

IV. Conclusion:
Explain the difference between Mixtures and Compounds using data. Compare the pie
charts.
There are a differences between Mixtures and Compounds. A mixture is substance
made by mixing other substances together. A compound is a Substance formed from two or
more elements in which the exact combination and proportion of elements is always the same.
According to the data it explains how mixtures are made up of more than one substances or
objects. Some of the key differences are that compounds are always homogeneous, whereas
mixtures can be homogeneous or heterogeneous. The compound is a pure substance, which
contains only one kind of molecule. As against this, a mixture is an impure substance which
contains various types of molecules. The compound, results in the making of the new
substance, while mixture does not lead to the creation of new substance. Compounds are boiled
or melted at a definite temperature. On the other hand, mixtures, do not have a fixed melting
and boiling point.

Explain how you separated the Salt from the Sand. Use as much new vocabulary as
you can.

You can separate salt from sand by making a funnel then pour the sand threw a filter
with water and the salt will go with the water. The water will then collect the salt. If you then boil
the water with the salt in it, the water will evaporate while the salt stays at the bottom. The salt is
the solute and the water is the solvent. A solute is the substance that is the substance that will
be dissolved and the solvent is the substance that is holding the solute while it’s being
dissolved. When the water is put through the funnel it creates a positive and negative charge
between the salt and water. A solvent is the substance in which the solute is dissolved. Then
saturated means any solution that contains all the solute it can hold at a given temperature. On
the other hand unsaturated is any solution that can dissolve more solute at a given temperature.
