VISA TO STUDY IN GERMANY
VISA TO LEARN GERMAN TO TAKE UP UNIVERSITY STUDIES AFTERWARDS
(for stays over 3 months)
The visa enables interested skilled professionals who hold a recognized university degree, to look for an
adequate job in Germany for the period of max. 6 months. Please visit www.make-it-in-germany.com for
general information on working in Germany.
If your job search has been successful, the local Alien’s Authority in Germany can change your visa into a
residence permit without you having to leave Germany again to get a work visa.
Applications need to be complete. Applicants who do not have all needed documents will not be able to submit
their application. In this case, a new appointment has to be booked in order to submit missing documents. This list
shall help preparing the required documents. Please have them ready in the order mentioned below.
Required documents
1) General documentation required for all types of visa
□ Passport (signed personally and with a validity of min. 6 months at the date of application, containing at
least one blank page)
(Original and two copies of all pages that are not blank)
□ 2 application forms, duly completed and signed

□ 2 declarations art. 54 and 55 German Residence Act, duly completed and signed

□ 3 passport pictures
(not older than 6 months, photos must meet the requirements stated here

□ Travel Health insurance valid for Germany covering 6 months
Saudi applicants:
□ ID (original and two copies)
Non-Saudi applicants:
□ Iqama (original and 2 copies)

2) Further documents regarding the purpose of the stay and how it is financed
□ Letter of admission of a German university („Hochschule“ or „Fachhochschule“)
and/or
□ Admission to a „Studienkolleg“ (prep course) with admission date
and
□ Proof of language skills at a B1 level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for
Languages) in the language the program is taught (if the program is taught in German, a certificate
recognized by the Goethe Institut is highly recommended to proof German language skills)
or
□ registration for a language course in Germany that specifically prepares for studying in Germany
Please note: Admission to a preparatory language course does not automatically mean you have the required skills
for the desired university program. Some universities reserve the right to check the academic skills for
certain programs only after passing the language exam.
□ Proof of sufficient financial means to live and study in Germany by either
□ a blocked bank account at a financial institution in Germany with the amount of 7.908,- EUR (with a
max. withdrawal of 659,- EUR per months)
or
□ a scholarship either by an officially recognized institution in Germany or the government of the state
of origin (such as the Scholarship of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques”)
or
□ a formal obligation letter of a private person declared in Germany according to art.s 66-68 German
Residence Act (to be declared at the German Alien’s authority)

□ Proof of income of the person that signed the obligation letter (bank statements etc.)
or
□ certificate of registration and tax card if person is self employed
or
□ proof of income
□ Employment letter with exact information on position, beginn and duration of contract and
monthly income

□ current bank statements over the last six months.
□ letter of motivation including why you wish to study in German, where and what and your future plans after
completing the university program
□ CV including education at school, high school and university, grade report
□ if applicable: employment letter
□ if applicable: knowledge of further foreign languages
Please note that the Embassy reserves the right to ask for further documents that could then be submitted later by
email or courier.
General rules for submitting documents:
If not stated otherwise, please submit all documents in original and 2 copies.
Foreign official documents need to be legalized by the German Embassy of the country that issued the
document (exception: documents from Iraq)
Forgeign official documents need to be translated into German.

Only translations of officially recognized translators (either recognized by the Embassy or by court in
Germany) will be accepted. If translated outside KSA or Germany, the German Embassy of the
country where the documents has been translated needs to certify the translation.
Important information about the visa process
▪ The German Embassy Riyadh receives applications from residents of Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Yemen only,
regardless their nationality.
▪ Applications can only be submitted with prior appointment. Please book an appointment online. Every
applicant needs a separate appointment, including minors. Please make sure your data is correct when
booking the appointment.
Unfortunately, waiting times for the next available appointment can be long. Early booking is recommended.

▪ Applicants need to come in person because all applicants except children under the age of 12 need to give
fingerprints.
▪ The visa fee is 60 EUR (payable in SAR at the relevant exchange rate of the day). No further fees apply.
The application forms are available online free of charge.
