SCHOLARSHIP ADVANCEMENT

PROGRAMME 2022
25 JULY-25 SEPTEMBER 2022 and Publishes

AHAS Kulliyyah of IRKHS is committed to becoming a
fully functioning centre of studies, hence is continuously
facilitating her academics to accomplish the missions
of IIUM

Academics in AHAS KIRKHS have been accomplishing
their roles as knowledge workers for both internal and
external communities (professional, learning, learned,
and the community at large).

In providing an ecosystem that supports the aim
to become a fully functioning centre if studies,
the Kulliyyah has put in place a number of
interventions, implemented via various
programmes, among them are:

a. University Community Engagement (e.g
The Gombak-Riau Project)
b. Flagship Projects (e.g The Mosque
Project, The Youth Empowerment Project,
Psychosocial Supports,Break the Barriers etc)
c. Synergised Academic Activities (SAA)
d. Scholarship Advancement Programmes
(SAP)

SCHOLARSHIP ADVANCEMENT PROGRAMMES (SAP)

SAP is an intervention to facilitate academics’ function in advancing the scholarship
they specialize or lead.

This entails a more dedicated focus being given to knowledge generation (conducting
research) and its dissemination activities (presenting in seminar/conference/workshop
or publishing in books, journals, book chapters etc.)
In SAPs 2019, 2020, and 2021, KIRKHS academics have been participating in the
programmes organized by their respective departments.

The SAPs have led to several desired outcomes, including:
1. facilitating academics to share their academic work with fellow colleagues;
2. disseminating their research findings/work to a larger community in the
academe, via various media (books, edited books, journal articles, book
chapters, newspaper articles)

ADVANCING OUR SCHOLARSHIP

It is the Kulliyyah’s role to facilitate, support and nurture academic’s task
performances which could advance the development of integrated
scholarship in the following areas:

1. Scholarship of Discovery
2. Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL)
3. Scholarship of Integration, Islamisation or

Relevantisation
4. Scholarship of Application
5. Scholarship of Community Engagement

SCHOLARSHIP OF DISCOVERY

Academics to work and publish on specific knowledge or
subject matter which adopt specific approaches in sourcing

knowledge (epistemology), deliberating input of
knowledge (ontology), highlighting values derived from the

knowledge (axiology), and introducing integrated
valuable use or practices (teleology) from the knowledge.

SCHOLARSHIP OF TEACHING AND LEARNING
(SOTL)

Academics to work and publish on
effective approaches in teaching
and learning processes or outcomes,

appropriately and accurately
fitting students’ needs, and

selectively adhering to societal and
technological requirements and
changes.

SCHOLARSHIP OF INTEGRATION,
ISLAMISATION OR RELEVANTISATION

Academics work and publish on
deliberating the methods they adopt

when embarking on integrated
approach in teaching and learning,
research, publication, consultancy,

services, innovation, community
engagement.

SCHOLARSHIP OF APPLICATION

Academics to work and publish on materializing the outcome of knowledge
comprehension (transpired via their established expertise and applied them in any
consultancy-related engagements) in addressing any pressing and uprising societal

needs and demands.

The commencement of these practical elements shall represent the practitioners’
approaches to the uprising issues and demands, indirectly serving as evidence of the

application of their experts’ knowledge.

This scholarship of application shall also be imbued in all aspects of teaching and
learning. Academics shall create teaching and learning environments that uphold the
philosophy of education where students’ internal and external characterizations have

to be moulded so as to serve as a reflection of the values of attained knowledge.

SCHOLARSHIP OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Academics to work and publish on cultivating an environment
indicative that the university is a citizen of the surrounding
community.

The work is genuinely impactful in community-driven or
community-supported academic activities. The effort can be
transdisciplinary and moulded to the community’s needs.

It may involve the community of professionals, learners, learned,
and the community at large.

Their work can be disseminated via reputable media (mainly the
reputable publication but not limited to it. Other new media will
be adopted too).

ACTIVITIES IN SAP
(A CONDUCIVE, FLOURISHING AND STRESS-FREE SAP)

1. SAP 2022 will be organized as individual and
collective activities.

2. Each Department is to facilitate the ways to plan
the activities.

3. It may involve goal setting before 25 July 2022;
and sharing session on the achievements after 25
September 2022

INDIVIDUAL LEVEL ACTIVITIES

Each academic to specify his or her realistic SAP target,
Among the suggested activities are:
a. to edit 1 book
b. to submit 1 (or more) book manuscript
c. to write 1 (or more) book chapter
d. to complete 1 (or more) research report,
e. to submit 1 (or more) journal article
f. to complete 1 (or more) newspaper/magazine article
g. to present in 1 (or more) in seminar/conference/forum
h. to conduct workshop for colleagues to enhance their scholarship
i. ability
