Preface

The manual of Public Health Internship was developed to be used as a guideline
for the students of Public Health Bachelor Program who registered during 1804340 Public
Health Field Training 1 . Students, lecturers, supervisors, and staff who involved of this
internship can be used as a guideline for understanding of the internship of Public Health
students. Therefore, everyone is understood in same direction of Public Health internship
guidelines and will be able to accomplish the assignments to meet the objectives of this
course. If the students and supervisors have any suggestions for improvement this
manual, please inform our team to revise and correct to the most complete manual in
the future.

1.2 Course description
Field training in basic medical assessment, first aid, communicable disease surveillance,

investigation, and control, occupational health and safety management, environmental
health, health system management, health promotion, immunization program in the hospital;
an academic conference for health care workers.
1.3 Field training learning Objectives
After completing this course, students must be able to:

1. Demonstrate basic health assessment skills, providing treatment, first aid, and
immunization.

2. Demonstrates being a public health professional and professional ethics.
3. Apply acquired knowledge and skills in work related to investigation or surveillance

of health-related states, and risk assessment and management of occupational
health.
4. Design and communicate public health issues in academic conferences

1.4 Time schedule for field training program
1) Preparation period for student orientation prior to field training for public Health

students in School of Health Sciences building, Mae Fah Luang University, December 30, 2022
2) Period of time for field training from 06 June 2022 to 29 July 2022 at 8 weeks
3) Length of time for presentations and seminars during filed training between 1 - 5

August 2022 at Mae Fah Luang University
4) Period of supervision, monitoring and evaluation. There will be supervision to follow

up on the results of field training t, at 2 times per unit (in which supervisors will coordinate
with students in advance of supervision).
1.5 Students

16.1 Internship unit

The department of Public Health requires students to practice in 15 hospitals in Chiang

Rai Province, following as

1) Mae Fah Luang Hospital 2) Wiang Chiang Rung Hospital

3) Mae Chan Hospital 4) Chiang Saen Hospital

5) Khun Tan Hospital 6) Wiang Pa Pao Hospital

7) Padad Hospital 8 ) Somdet Prayannasungworn Hospital

9) Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital 10) Mae Sai Hospital

11) Mae Suai Hospital 12) Wiang Kaen Hospital

13) Chiang Khong Crown Prince Hospital 14) Phan Hospital

15) Mae Lao Hospital

15 hospitals are training units that have been approved by professor in the department.

And understanding knowledge of both theory/practice and experience according to the

current reality. Lead to understanding realize the importance including improve good attitudes

towards the field training under the advisor in the internship unit.

1.7.3 Roles of an Advisor
1) Supervisor of the internship unit (Hospital mentor) to monitoring the

student performance working by considering the development of knowledge, abilities, and
behaviors of students

2) University supervisor (Lecturer) to evaluating the effectiveness of
behavior, reports of work and presentations from students.

3) Lecturer responsible for the project (Group advisor) to evaluating the
results of attending the orientation activities, seminars during training, seminars after training ,
review final reports, and presentations.

1.8 Supervising work field training in the public health
Supervision is a process of advising and assisting students to perform the duty to the

quality and the most efficient of training.

1.8.1 Characteristics of Supervision
Preparation of students from the field of study orientation before the practice group
introduction meeting individual discussion, recommending documents, and seeking additional
knowledge including other methods. That will help improve the skills of the students'
internships. The student supervisor in charge of supervising the work to the students is called
"supervisor" or “advisor”, which consists of two departments:

1) Supervisor of the internship unit (Hospital mentor) to monitoring the
student performance working by considering the development of knowledge, abilities, and
behaviors of students

2) University supervisor or advisor (Lecturer) to evaluating the effectiveness
of behavior, reports of work and presentations from students.

1.8.2 Supervised time
Supervision of students’ time is at the discretion of both of supervisor and advisor. The
students will receive supervision from professors in the field of study 2 times, first time on-
site in hospital and second time for online presentation.
1.8.3 Supervised record
The advisor will record the supervision of work or comment on the student's
performance in the student's diary form. All students are required to record their daily
operations.

1.9 Expected outcome
The filed training experience of public health students should be relied on knowledge

in various basic arts and sciences and multidiscipline for health promotion, health behavior
change, environmental management, disease prevention, reduce health risk along with the
use of moralities and professional ethics.

Chapter 2
Roles and Duties of Public Health Field Training 1 for advisors

Roles and duties of advisors
Advisors are lecturers in public health program who responsible as a consultant to

students, coordinate with supervisors at students’ workplaces as the followings:
1. Responsible for a selection or an admission of students to join or leave this health

field training course
2. Provide advice and consultation about registration in public health field training

course and field training activities in all aspects
3. Supervision during the period of public health field training course and join with

other advisors for evaluation the performance of students

Supervision of public health field training
Advisors from public health program will supervise the training field at least 2 times

with the purposes as follows:
1. To give encouragement for students
2 . To supervise and monitor student performance according to the objectives of this

course
3. To know the problems between students and other staff at their workplace during

the field training
4. To help coordinate, provide advice, and solve the problems during the field training,

as well as exchange the information about students’ progression with students and supervisors
5 . To evaluate the overall performance of field training course and collect useful

information for further development of this field training course

Roles and duties of Public Health Field Training Students
3.1 Student’s qualifications

Public health program, school of health science will select students by using the
following qualifications: Student must

1.1 Be a 3rd year student who is passed all courses as specified by the program
structure and has a cumulative GPAX not less than 2.00
1.2 Not register for any other courses during the same time as the field training
1.3 Be a person with well-behave and never punished for serious discipline
1.4 Have maturity and well self-development
1.5 Not have a disease that is an obstacle to the practice and the workplace
3.2 Student’s duties: Students must
2.1 Attain and complete the orientation, training for Public Health Field Training
2.2 Continuously practice and increase knowledge before Public Health Field Training
2.3 Intend to perform the work assigned by advisors at full capacity
2.4 Behave in the discipline or regulations of the workplace and must not violating
others
2.5 Not fight in any circumstance
2.6 Contact and submit the required documents and feedback your own work
progress with the school throughout the period of the training
2.7 Immediately contact your advisor if there is a problem when you are doing field
training
3.3 Regulations during Public Health Field Training 1
3.3.1 Students must have well-behave, discipline and good interpersonal relationship
as follows:

1) Punctual and use your time wisely
2) Respect each other, have a good manner, polite, and act appropriate
under any circumstance
3) Responsible for your own assigned work
4) Comply with professional ethics

5) Respect and follow the rules of your own workplace
3.3.2 Students must concentrate and pay attention during the training at the
professional level.
3.3.3 Students must work hard and responsible to do the assignments from the
advisors.
3.3.4 Each day, student must record the work activities with its details as assigned in
the workbook and having a supervisor who responsible for the training signs his or
her name in the workbook as well. Students must take this workbook back after
finishing their training.
3.3.5 Students must complete this field training as scheduled. In case that the
number of hours of the training in not complete as decided by the program, student
must extend the period of training and continue to practice. If students fail to
complete the number of hours or extend the period for this field train g without
sensible reason at the discretion of the advisors and supervisors, students will not
pass this course.
3.3.6 In case that students have a conflict with the staff at the workplace, other
fellow students, patients, or the public up to physical abuse, supervisor at that
workplace have the right to downgrade student’s scores and/or send students back
to the university, and/or stop the training. The feedback of students will be informed
back to the school, and the university will proceed to consider the next punishment.
3.3.7 In case that students commit fraud or implied intention to corrupt whether it is
a personal property or government agency (such as money, medicines, or other
supplies) will be considered as a serious offense. Students will be failed for this
course and proceeded along with legal actions.
3.3.8 Gambling, fighting, drinking alcohol, using narcotics are prohibited under any
circumstance while doing this field training. If students do not follow the rules,
students will be failed for this course immediately.
3.3.9 Students who got any problems about field training should contact their
advisors directly
3.4 Dressing of students during field training
3.4.1 Male students

1) White practice shirt with name-surname and school’s name
2) Black or navy-blue trousers, denim or jeans are not allowed

3.4.2 Female students

4) Knee-length black skirt; materials such shinny fabrics, patterned fabrics,
denim, corduroy, and lace are not allowed

6) Modest hairstyle; not dyed, and should tie your hair properly
7) Do not paint your fingernails
3.5 After this field training, students should
3.5.1 Have gained professional experience in the field of study, beyond studying in
the classroom
3.5.2 Always learn and develop themselves, work with other comfortably, and have
more responsibility and self-confidence

1. Part 1, Filed training report form, item 1.1 - 1.5, allow students in each unit to complete

the practice within the first week of the practice. Please sending a copy as a PDF file of
each training unit via e-mail: [email protected] and collecting the original
version for the instructor in the advisor.
2. Part 1, item 1.8, and part 2, students can add topics according to the information of the
training unit.
3. Part 2 General information of hospital health services, a student’s doing together
presented as a group overview and make a report in individually.
4. No case studies/case studies are not enough for the number of students.
4.1 If any Internship unit does not have a case study or is unable to study due to the
emergency/COVID-19 epidemic Students can study from previous case studies under the
teaching of a mentor.
4.2 If there are not enough case studies, the number of students practicing can use case
studies together but separate writing of individual reports.
5. Part 3 Disease control Disease investigation and full report
5.1 If during the training period there is no epidemic. The mentors bring the case studies

to practice for students.
5.2 Or there are not enough case studies, the number of students practicing can use case

studies together but separate writing of individual reports
6. Part 7 Health promotion, students can organize activities to promote health / provide

health education in the selected issue which must be consistent with the context and
maximize benefits to the target group. Health promotion is chosen one of the methods
of organizing health promotion education or more than one method in organizing health
promotion activities to suit the target group as follows:

1) Lecture method
2) Group discussion method (Panel)
3) Training (Training)
4) Use of radio broadcasting (voice on the line)
5) How to organize an exhibition
6) Methods for using various printed media such as flyers, leaflets, magazines,
journals, posters
7) How to use online media (Line application, Facebook, website)

7. In part 8, 10, 11
7.1 Complete the required number of practice sessions. You can do more practice than
required, but choose interesting case study notes to complete the specified amount
If the amount is not complete, consider according to item 3.
7.2 Oobserve or practice to be at the discretion of the mentor However, if the case study

9. Part 13 Special Project
9.1 The special Project for target group by assessing the problem from real
situation/secondary data to Implementation of health problem in
individual/family/community by participatory teaching
9.2 In carrying out a special project, students in each training unit should consult with a
mentor in the training center from the beginning of the training. in order to plan the
operation and complete it according to the period of practice
9.3 To do a special project (Special Project) every training unit, choose one of the following
types of interest.
1) Projects based on health issues and health education plans, or
2) Health Innovation
9.4 If the training unit wishes to organize a special project according to health issues and
health education program. If the training unit requires students to organize a project
that is consistent with the project according to the training unit's operational plan can
be operated by allowing students to learn to find problems, write projects, and
implement projects by individual under the supervision of a mentor.
9.5 In case of choosing health innovations, Student must produce work pieces or health
innovations have the results to be used, prepare reports, can apply the PDCA
principles.
9.6 Students of each training unit should consult with a mentor in the internship at the
beginning of the training. In order to plan the operation and complete it according to
the period of practice
9.7 The record of the performance can be recorded in the form specified by the field of
study. or form of training unit which the form can be modified as appropriate at the
discretion of the training unit/mentor

5.1 Filed training assessment form 1 (Hospital)
Assessor is a teacher who supervisors from internship unit
The evaluation period is at the end of the internship on July 29, 2022.

The assessment form has a full score of 185, divided into 3 parts as follows:
Part 1 Work achievement
Part 2 Individual assessment (TQF)
Part 3 Additional recommendation on the filed training

In the event that the supervisor has additional comments on the assessment of the
students' practice. Please write details in the comments and suggestions along with the
signature of the mentor and have students sign it every time.

The evaluation is complete Instructor who supervises the practice/mentor. Please seal
the envelope as “Hardcover documents” and be signed on the last day of the training session
by giving students send to the advisor, the academic coordinator for practice from the
department of public health, School of health sciences. As soon as students return to the
university to be used to determine the grades of students and collecting information to further
improve the quality of filed training.

5.2 Filed training assessment form 1 (University)
Assessor is a teacher who advisors from university
The evaluation period is at the end of the internship on February 1 1 , 2 0 2 1.

The assessment form has a full score of 185, divided into 3 parts as follows:
Part 1 Individual assessment (TQF) (185 scores)
Part 2 Assessment form for field training report, Individual report (200 scores)
Part 3 Assessment of special project (35 scores)

Once the evaluation is complete group advisor, please seal the envelope as "
Hardcover documents " and signed and sent to the advisor, the academic coordinator of the
practice course. The department of public health, School of health sciences to be used to
determine the grades of students and collecting information to further improve the quality of
filed training.

5.3 Field training supervision assessment form
Assessor is a lecturer
The evaluation period is at the end of each internship supervision. The assessment

form has a total score of 50, divided into 2 parts as follows:
Part 1 Progress of assignments and quality of work
Part 2 Self-development and organizational involvement

Once the evaluation is complete group advisor, please seal the envelope as "
Hardcover documents " and signed and sent to the advisor, the academic coordinator of the
practice course. The department of public health, School of health sciences to be used to
determine the grades of students and collecting information to further improve the quality of
filed training.
5.4 Presentation assessment for field training 1

Assessor is a lecturer who attend a student’s presentation.
The evaluation period is at the end of the presentation of the results of the field
training assessment, consisting of 2 parts; 1) Contents, and 2) communication skills, with a full
score of 45.

Report of filed training writing format
Report writing is a compulsory activity of filed training with purpose to practice
communication skills and report on the results of the student's practice after practicing in filed
training which must submit a report to the department. The writing and making of reports are
considered useful for students and practice sites. Students are required to consult with a
mentors/advisors/head of the training center. The students record/note according to the
recommended from practice unit to determine appropriate activities taking into account the
needs and characteristics of the organization. In addition, the details of the report/project
format may be based on the format of the training unit.

6.1 Report Writing Format

Report of writing format for field training as following contents;

6.1.1 Report Writing Format

To make the report writing follow the same standards. Therefore, the format for the

preparation of the report is as following:

1) Cardboard outer cover

2) Printed on standard size paper “A4 70-80” gram, white paper, and single-

sided or 2-sided printing

3) Prints primarily vertically may contain images or a horizontal grid as needed

4) Type of font and size “TH Sarabun PSK”

– Heading use 18 points in bold (Chapter 1 Introduction).

– Subheadings use 16 points in bold. (1.1 Rational and background)

– General content uses a size of 16 points throughout the document. or

to highlight text, increase the size and style as appropriate.

– If there is an English word inserted, I use letters in TH Sarabun PSK front

spacing as single

6) There are page numbers from the letter of submission of the report until

the last page

7) Margins;

a. Top 3.75 cm.

From the outer cover and the inner cover, the top margin is not less than 2 inches and the

bottom margin is not less than 1 inch.

6.2 Details of reports

After completing the internship, students are required to produce a report of the

internship to the supervisor or group advisor of the internship. All students are required to
