Project 'Beacon'-ISR initiative of GST

The South Indian Education Society has taken a significant step forward by making social responsibility a part of the
education process. It was decided that each college in the group would adopt a village for overall development and
empowering the villagers. The SIES College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Sion West, took the first initiative by adopting a
small tribal village in 2013 followed by the SIES College of Management Studies adopting another in 2014. The SIES
Graduate School of Technology, Nerul has extend the initiative further by treading a different path.
As part of the Institute Social Responsibility initiative taken by the South Indian Education Society, the Graduate School of
Technology provides vocational training to the underprivileged sections of the society. The target group is orphans, street
children, school dropouts and similar from the age group of 18-30 years.
Beacon offers seven trades; viz Carpentry, Welding, Metal Turning, Sewing & Tailoring, Plumbing, Electrician, Screen
Printing and Computer Operator, each having course duration of six months including a foundation course for all. The
courses focuses more on practical hands on training with minimum required theoretical background. Each candidate is
further exposed to basics of grooming, banking skills, computer skills, spoken English, Mathematics, as part of the
foundation course. At the end of the training the students are placed with service providers, contractors or in industries for

LIFE AT SIES GST

At SIESGST, utmost care is taken to create well rounded professionals equipped to handle challenges in the society and professional
world. Several activities and clubs are setup for the students’ holistic development. There is ample opportunity to nurture all kinds of talent

cultural activities, several clubs have been set up like Arambh the drama club, Moksh and Aagmi— dance groups, Aaroha — the music
club, literary club as well as a photography and media club. The GST Developer Programme, an initiative of the Technical Team helps
students improve and hone their technical skills. Code Chef -an online competitive programming platform is hosted for improving coding
skills. The students also produce Gazette, a fortnightly English newsletter, keeping students up-to-date on campus happenings. In
addition, there is also Samanvay, the institute’s Annual magazine and Advaiteeya - the semi-annual magazine of Department of Printing
and Packaging Technology.

The student council along with professional student chapters organises many extra and co-curricular activities for students throughout
the year. These activities are broadly classified into Cultural, Sports and Technical. Competitions in music, drama, literature, debating,
photography, fine arts, etc. are also held regularly.

Utmost importance is given to placement related activities to ensure that all successful graduates receive suitable PLACEMENTS
placements. Over the past several years, a strong placement network has been developed with industries in the
manufacturing, engineering, financial services, information technology, publication and other sectors.

This has been achieved through constant interaction with the industry by way of seminars, research projects, and
on hands on off-campus initiatives. As part of its placement efforts, placement teams visit potential employers and
consultants and apprise them of the level of knowledge and practical application skills acquired by the graduates in
their respective areas of specialization and expertise.

Furthermore, internships are also granted to students during the course of their studies in our college, they may
range from a month-long internship to 4 to 6 months internship which involves final year projects in the case of
students pursuing B.E. Printing and Packaging Technology. This year onwards we have also instated a cell for
