SEWER LINES
in Thornhill Estate
THOA GARDENS & ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE
Our estate, although it wasn’t an estate at the time, was established in the early 1930s and much of our infrastructure, such as sewer and power lines were developed from as early as this time. Much development and expansion happened between then and now and a lot of work was done to expand the infrastructure by the municipality.
Many of the sewer lines still in operation today within our estate are aging and being damaged by tree roots and building or renovation work. The system is therefore vulnerable to the smallest upset.
There have recently been a number of sewerage challenges particularly in
Elm Avenue where residents have had
to acquire professional help to unblock systems that were overflowing into gardens and roads. This sometimes required digging lines open and bringing in professional equipment to unblock the sewer lines at a substantial cost.
What has come to light, which is very concerning, is what is actually being flushed down toilets and drains by our residents, causing these massive upsets. We feel
that it is imperative that we remind our residents and their staff not to flush anything down drains or toilets that could cause blockages.
These items include: • Condoms
• Sanitary pads
• Newspaper
• Plastic
• Building material
• Food waste
• Chemicals that could cause erosion
The only things that are meant to be flushed down toilets and drains is human waste, toilet paper and dirty, used bathroom and kitchen WATER.
We appeal to everyone on Thornhill to be responsible and considerate and to educate their contractors, staff and minors in such a way that we are not placing a burden on our neighbours by irresponsible actions.

CURB APPEAL
in Thornhill Estate
CODE OF CONDUCT RULES & REGULATIONS MAS:002 3.1 (3.1.1.)
Curb Appeal is an American buzz word that’s spread across the globe, and is a hot topic at the moment.
Curb appeal is your guest or potential buyers first impression of your home and in turn possible you.
The concept has become so important it has it’s own hashtag on Instagram with millions of posts to boast and inspire others.
Realtors share that a well-landscaped home is likely to fetch 5.5 – 12.7% more than one with no landscaping, and especially on the sidewalk.
Realtors will suggest sellers improve their curb appeal before listing a home for sale because it’s now close to the top of a buyers checklist when house hunting.
they feel as if they have driven into a time warp, or far into the country side, when they visit our lovely Estate. This is partly due to the effort made by some home owners and residents regarding their curb appeal.
Our pavements are a large and integral part of the general appeal of our Estate. Walking or driving down the streets in
the Estate you can enjoy this atmosphere and visitors will form an impression of the homes and residents during their visit and move through the streets.
Despite the fact that the ground outside your home is not owned by you, the onus is in fact very much on homeowners and tenants to give of their time and funds to make their little piece of public space a pleasure to pass. It is in fact stipulated in the code of conduct that you are expected to do so.
Often you will hear visitors exclaim that

Sadly some of our pavements are in a state of neglect and disarray. Weeds, untended plants, hidden gates and driveways, litter, broken walls etc, really do bring down the value of the surrounding properties and are unpleasant to see.
We would like to INSPIRE all residents to keep their small piece of pavement looking spiffy and neat, by showcasing some our best!!
If we all do our tiny bit to keep ours neat and tidy at a minimum we’ll all reap the rewards.
No matter how big or small your stretch of ground or your budget, THOA asks you to do your best to keep the area neat and tidy and pleasant for all to pass.
WELL DONE and THANK YOU to those who have made the extended effort to beautify theirs. What a pleasure it is to enjoy your homes on our walks and drives around.
** Please note there are too many to showcase. Take note on your next walk around the Estate.

SOPHIA GITTINGS
Please help me spread this message so that it is as visible and assimilated as possible !! Soon will be the season of fruits like plums, peaches, pumpkins, watermelons, cherries, apricots, mangoes, oranges, grapes, avocados, apricots... etc
My request to everyone is to avoid throwing the seeds in the trash, but instead wash them, dry them (in the sun) and store them in a paper bag (not plastic) and store them in the bag or in the car.
Every time you leave and go to a field, or while traveling on a road, throw these seeds on the ground. With this simple act we can contribute a tree, a branch ... every season to our world, and our mission to make this green world happen.
The Thai government has promoted this idea to all its citizens in recent years.
Many of its districts conducted this campaign firmly and were very successful.
The number of fruit trees and legumes in the wild multiplied, especially in the northern districts of Thailand.
The Malaysians joined the Thais in this brilliant initiative to spread abundance in nature, and in this simple yet effective way, have contributed to future generations. Just a thought
