The Original Vision
OF YWAM - 1956
“Suddenly I was looking at a map of the world, only the
map was alive and moving! I sat up and shook my head
and rubbed my eyes. It was a mental movie. I could see
all the continents, and waves were crashing onto their
shores. Each wave went onto a continent, then receded,
then came up farther until it covered the continent
completely. I caught my breath. Then, as I watched,
the scene began to change. The waves became young
people—kids my age and even younger—covering all the
continents of the globe. They were talking to people
on street corners and outside bars. They were going
from house to house and preaching the Gospel (bringing
good news). Everywhere they went they were caring for
people just as Dad cared for the little girl reaching out for
baksheesh (a small sum of money).” Book: Is that Really
you God? - Loren Cunningham - YWAM Founder
Youth With A Mission (YWAM) - the name itself, is a call
to action! Starting as a movement, today YWAM has
operational centers in 180+ nations. The heartbeat
is still for young people to make a difference in their
world, to understand the ‘why’ of their faith and to learn
how to engage locally and internationally. YWAM has a
decentralised structure with no international office or
centralised funding; the primary onus of leadership and
legal enities is placed upon the local YWAM operational
centre.
