FAITHBy: Geneva Pickrell
Dear Reader Letter
The purpose of this book is to show how the word faith connects to the book “Night” by
Elie Wiesel.
I chose this topic word because I honestly felt like it would be the easiest one
considering Judaism is a religion and the whole book revolves around faith or the
antonyms of faith.
Faith is the choice to believe in something.
By reading “Night” I learned the word faith is not always circled around religion, it can
be believing in anything, having hope, or trust in something or someone.
My overall message is that the word faith is deeply centered in the book “Night”.
SONG
In God We Still Trust - Diamond Rio
Lyrics
You place your hand on His Bible, when you swear to tell the Truth
His name is on our greatest Monuments, and all our money too,
And when we Pledge allegiance, there's no doubt where we stand,
There is no separation, we're one Nation under Him.
In God We Still Trust
Here in America
He's the one we turn to every time
The goin' gets rough
He is the source of all our Strength
The One who watches over us
Here in America
In God We Still Trust
Now there are those among us, who want to push Him out,
And erase His name from everything, this country's all about,
From the Schoolhouse to the Courthouse, they're Silencing His Word,
Now it's time for all Believers, to make our Voices heard.
In God We Still Trust,
Here in America
He's the one we turn to every time
The goin' gets rough
He is the source of all our Strength
The One who watches over us
Here in America
In God We Still Trust
Here in America
Here in America
Here in America,
In God We Still Trust
Here in America,
In God We Still Trust
Here in America
Endnote: I chose this song because throughout all the song it talks about believing in something and
trusting. It says "In God We Still Trust" which is pretty self explanatory.
“Night” passage
“God is testing us...And if he punishes us mercilessly, it is a sign that he loves us
that much more” (Wiesel 45).
POEM
Trust not what you hear,
Trust not what you see,
But trust
What you feel.
– Sri Chinmoy
Endnote: I chose this poem because it talks about trust, when it says "trust what you feel" it's talking
about believing in yourself and trusting your instincts, have faith in yourself.
“Night” passage
“The bible commands us to rejoice during the eight days of celebration” (Wiesel 10).
A RTWORK
Endnote: I chose this piece of art because I think it shows the antonym of faith pretty well,
hopelessness. It shows a person staring into a never ending hole of darkness.
“Night” passage
“Never shall I forget those moments that murdered my god and my soul and turned my
dreams to ashes” (Wiesel 34).
BLACKOUT POETRY
Endnote: My blackout poetry shows the antonym of faith. Doubt, distrust, hopelessness.
“Night” passage
“Jews, listen to me.” she cried. “I see a fire! I see flames, huge flames!” (Wiesel 25).
ARTWORK Endnote:
The picture shows a person jumping to the other side of a cliff, this shows him having belief in
himself that he can make it
“Night” passage
“I have more faith in Hitler than in anyone else” (Wiesel 81).
