“Our people are what make us great.”

Our People, Our Passion

While reflecting on a recent board retreat, I remembered a personal story shared by one
of our board members. He spoke about how his life – specifically his volunteerism – was
influenced by his mom’s dedication to her career. She awoke every day with a smile on her
face and reveled in her work. One day, he asked her why she was so happy. She explained
that she loved where she worked, what she did and who she worked with. And she loved
that she could make a difference.
Where did she work? Ohio Living.
The sentiment that Ohio Living is a great place to work is one I’ve often heard and, in fact,
it’s something I say myself, both personally and professionally. I’m proud to say that a new
accolade has validated these claims: Ohio Living is Great Place To Work – Certified.
Designations like these don’t just happen by chance; they are earned by talented people who
are committed to their professions and to each other. From colleagues of the past, to those
present today, and to those who will carry us forward into tomorrow, one constant remains
true: Our people are what make us great.
As you’ll see in the pages that follow, Ohio Living is a great place to live, to care, to work,
to serve and to give. Through Ohio Living, we can all make a difference!

AGreat Brand Annual Report 5
ToNurture & Grow

Over the past few years, we’ve introduced you to our new brand and shared with you how we’re living that brand
through the work we do every day, the quality care and services we provide, and the new partnerships we’re forming.
Now, we’ve taken that one step further by creating a Brand & Growth department whose sole responsibility is to
nurture, support and grow Ohio Living.
Our first step was to promote Mica Rees to the new position of Chief Brand & Growth Officer. Her presence on the
officers’ team brings Brand & Growth to the forefront, reflecting its importance to our organization’s future.
We also restructured our communications staff to form a new Creative Services team. Working closely with Mica,
this group of communications, digital marketing, graphic design and public relations professionals acts as an
in-house creative agency to support our overall storytelling, marketing and growth initiatives.
Next, we realigned all marketing staff within the organization. Reporting up to Mica through three regional
directors of business development, the sales and marketing staff at our communities and Home Health & Hospice
offices are now aligned into one cohesive team with shared objectives.
By combining our communications, sales and marketing staff into a centralized Brand & Growth department, we’ll
be able to streamline our processes, resources and messaging. With this new department poised to tell our story
and expand our reach, we look forward with great anticipation to what the future holds for Ohio Living.

“We like to think of our team as Ohio Living brand ambassadors – bringing all of our individual
locations together to speak with one unified identity and voice.”
Mica Rees

Little Things Mean a Lot
to Grateful Hospice Patients

Sometimes it’s the little things that bring joy in making wishes come true for hospice patients; small, compassionate gestures that happen every day. The staff
and volunteers of Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice regularly look for opportunities to bring comfort, joy and every-day kindnesses into their patients’ lives.
They listen and they learn about the little things that still bring joy... then they do whatever they can to make it happen!

OSU Marion Honors Ohio Living Team
for Outstanding Achievement & Excellence

In May 2018, Ohio Living was honored for Outstanding Achievement & Excellence from the Alber
Enterprise Center at The Ohio State University at Marion. Our organization sponsored a team of staff
members to participate in the Elder Care Certificate (ECC) pilot program – a grant-funded, professional
development program for front-line direct care employees. The result of this pilot was that participants
felt valued, which can lead to improved morale and less employee turnover. Additionally, participants
indicated they gained a better understanding of the aging population that they regularly serve – and
that’s a win-win for all concerned.

“We are always looking for ways to meaningfully invest in each team member to maximize the employee
experience and the experience of those we serve,” said Dana Ullom-Vucelich, Chief Human Resources &
Ethics Officer. “This was a chance for our direct care team not only to learn and compete, but also to
shine. And shine they did!”

Living board-designated fund. “After an extensive search, we have found Dan to
be uniquely qualified to handle the complexities
of our Foundation, as well as the ability to seize
new opportunities for the future,” said CEO
Laurence Gumina. “I’m excited that Dan is on
board to continue the great work of the Foundation
and successfully lead it into the decades ahead.”

Dan brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to
his new role, having revitalized underperforming
major gift programs, led capital campaigns that
exceeded their goals, managed major gift portfolios,
enhanced volunteer and board leadership capacity
and integrated several departments into cohesive
teams.

Please join us in welcoming Dan to the Ohio Living
