Atomicradiusisonehalfofthedistancebetweenthenucleus
oftwocovalentlybondedatoms.

Elementlithium,carbonandfluorineareinperiod2butindifferentgroup.Size
ofelementlithium islargestwhilesizeofelementcarbonislargerthanfluorine.
Thisisbecauseatomicradiusdecreasesacrosstheperiod.Whentheproton
numberincreases,Zeffalsoincreasesacrosstheperiodbutnumberofshells
remainthesame.So,theattractionbetweennucleusandelectronincreases
causingtheouterelectronstobepulledcloserto

nucleus.Thereforefluorinewiththehighestprotonnumberwillexperience
greaternucleus-electronattractionmeanwhilelithium withleastprotonnumber
experiencesmallestattraction.Therefore,lithium haslargeratomicsize
followedbycarbonandfluorine
