Penglipur Lara : Messages from the Future
by Idzham Shah

A message of “Un-War” and the phrase “Unity in Diversity”
refers to the unity of people who may differ in certain ways. The idea
can contribute to the moral and ethical development of humanity, and
the example that can be referred to Malaysia’s racial unity would give
an important message to the world leaders out there in respecting and
celebrating all the people without selecting the status and color.

Hence, the voice of Penglipur Lara tells the visitors, people, and
men in power out there through a from-future-spaceship-like interactive
exhibition, giving the message of “Unwar!” and “Unity in Diversity”.
Interactive exhibitions and live-action cultural performances are the
main programs of this pavilion but the unity is also described in the
architectural features of the structure.
Unity is often described as dependent on each member to stand strong
in one standard, hence it was pictured as several hands holding each
other; forming a reciprocal structure.

Aeolus : Vertical Community Skyscraper
by Idzham Shah

Human overpopulation refers to when the human population
is too large in a way that society or the environment cannot readily
sustain. Overpopulation is argued to be the cause of overconsumption,
where demographic pressure exceeds the carrying capacity of a
geographical area. A state of human overpopulation damages the
environment faster than it can be repaired, potentially leading to a
demographic push, Malthusian catastrophe, or even ecological or
societal collapse. Human overpopulation was popularized by Paul
Ehrlich in his book The Population Bomb. Advocates of population
moderation suggest that current human populations on earth are in a
state of overpopulation, citing contemporary environmental issues as
signs that humans are exceeding the Earth’s carrying capacity -- such
as global warming, potential or imminent ecological collapse, impact
on quality of life, and risk of mass starvation or even human extinction.
Discussion of overpopulation shares elements of the hypothetical
Malthusian catastrophe, a hypothetical event where the population
exceeds agricultural capacity, causing famine or war over resources,
resulting in poverty and depopulation
‘Skyscraper: Aeolus’ acts as a vertical community skyscraper
whereby instead of wasting land resources for horizontal planning, it
tackles the vertical skyline to create a living community heading upwards.
To prevent a point of no return for the future of the earth’s environment
and depletion of resources, the free people of earth mustered all the
remaining riches and resources the world had to offer, and had to put
their differences aside no matter the race, religion, and culture to create
Aeolus. Aeolus consists of residential areas, open outdoor community
spaces, and agricultural lands making the Aeolus a beacon of hope
and life for people to create a better community and also help revive
the deteriorating condition of the Earth.
The Aeolus will be constructed all around the world no matter
in urban or rural areas, especially in places where scarcity of resources
impacts people the most. This is to help any living human being survive
the crisis and bring back humanity to its feet. The name Aeolus is
inspired by the greek god, ‘Aeolus: King of Winds’ where the simple
nature of wind is integrated into the buildings’ sustainable system as a
renewable energy source.
