Title: Vaping is better than smoking cigarettes
General purpose: To persuade people to stop smoking
Central idea: Vaping is alternative for smoking

INTRODUCTION
Imagine someone offering you a cigarette. They tell you it’s good, relieves stress, you
should try it. Maybe you take it, maybe you don’t, that’s totally on you. But what if
when they extended the offer to you, instead of saying all that, they said, “Here, you
should take this, if you do it’s statistically likely that this will be the cause of your
death.” Would you take it?

Based on WHO

Tobacco kills more than 8 million people each year. More than 7 million of those
deaths are the result of direct tobacco use while around 1.2 million are the result of
non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke.

As we all know, nowadays vaping has become a trend and normal to the world.
Everywhere we go, we will see vape. Different to past, on our grandparent’s day, they
only have cigarettes. They already addicted to smoking cigarettes. So, it will be hard
for them to change to vape. Different to new generation, we are more attracted to
vaping because of the trend and the interesting design of vape and also the liquid
flavour has many types such as strawberry, blueberry and many other flavours. But
it’s not impossible for people to change from smoking cigarettes to vaping.

Vape, also known as e-cigs. The original use of e-cigarettes was to help cigarette
users stop smoking and to reduce the urge for nicotine. In general, this practice is very
effective for people who want to quit cigarettes.

My name is Tengku Faris and my topic is “Vaping better than smoking cigarettes.”

BODY

Firstly, let me tell you guys the substance different between cigarettes and vape. In
cigarettes there are many toxic and dangerous substance such as tar. Tar is the
material used to make a road, and it can cause lung cancer. Next, is arsenic. Arsenic is
material that be found in rat poison. After that, ammonia. Ammonia is a material to
make the fertilize. And of course, there is a substance that we called nicotine. This is
the thing that making people addicted to smoking. But there still many other toxically
substance in cigarettes that you should know like acetone which use to made a nail
polish, a carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas that found in exhaust fumes and the
substance that can give you a brain damage called lead.

Now i will tell you the substance in vape. Vape is just an electronic thing. It made of
battery and it has a thing called cartridge that contains cotton. So, to use this vape you
need to buy the liquid thing called flavour. The substance in this flavour is just the
vegetable glycerine or vegetable oil, propylene glycerol or flavoured sugar and of
course nicotine because its and alternative for cigarettes smoker. But it doesn’t
contain any dangerous substance in it like cigarettes.

My next point is the monthly cost. First, we all know that a pack of cigarettes cost
rm17 in Malaysia. If you smoke a pack of cigarettes a day times month, it will cost
around rm500. Imagine if you start smoking from a young age? how much money has
been spent? Next, for vape. To start vaping you just need to buy a thing called vape
once. It will cost you around rm60 to rm80 and you can use it for a lifetime. For a
monthly cost you just need to add around rm15 to rm30 to buy flavour liquid and you
can use it for around a month. So, your starting will cost rm75 to rm200 and your
monthly cost is just around rm15.

CONCLUSION

Last but not least, before i finish my speech i would like to ask you guys a question. Is
there anyone here smoking? No? good I’m happy to hear that. But if you do any of
these which one, do you prefer? cigarettes or vape? If you ask me, I highly
recommended you to vape because it has more benefit than smoking cigarettes. But!!
if you are not a smoker, I restricted telling you not to start any of these whether
smoking cigarettes or vaping because at smoking will give you bad habits and vape is
just an alternative for the Smoker and not just for a trend.

So, for cigarettes smoker. Let’s change to vaping and reduce the number of casualties
from 8 million people each year to fewer number of deaths.

That’s all from me.... Thankyou :)

VAPING NICOTINE IS FAR LESS HARMFUL THAN SMOKING TOBACCO
Wayne Hall, PhD
7 February 2020

In a previous issue of CHEST (May 2020), Bozier et al1 reviewed the recent research
on the potential health effects of e-cigarettes. We would like to comment on several of
the claims made in the article.
The most relevant question for smokers is whether vaping nicotine is less harmful
than smoking the cigarettes it is designed to replace. The evidence suggests it is far
less harmful. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
report2 found substantial evidence that “exposure to potentially toxic substances from
e-cigarettes is significantly lower compared with combustible tobacco cigarettes” and
“reduced short-term adverse health outcomes in several organ systems.”2
The authors quite rightly conclude that “e-cigarette use is not risk-free for non-
smokers.” However, international studies of adults and youth show that current use of
e-cigarettes by never smokers is rare, and regular use is very rare, usually <0.5%.
Most of the research on the harms of e-cigarettes is from in vitro and animal studies.
How these findings translate to health effects in humans is uncertain, when many
human studies show substantial health improvements in smokers who switch to
vaping.
The recent outbreak of lung injuries in the United States electronic-cigarette, or
vaping, product use-associated lung injury (EVALI)3 was not due to nicotine vaping.
Most, if not all, cases were the result of vaping black-market tetrahydrocannabinol

contaminated with vitamin E acetate.4 No cases have been associated with
commercial nicotine vaping.

The authors claim that we cannot exclude the possibility that “e-cigarettes pose a
similar, lesser, or greater cancer risk than cigarette smoking” because of the presence
of carcinogens and potential adverse effects in two studies. Given the greatly reduced
number of carcinogens and their lower concentration in e-cigarette vapor, it is very
likely that the cancer risk from vaping is only a tiny fraction of the risk from
smoking.4

Finally, the authors appear to misunderstand the role of tobacco harm reduction in
questioning the value of vaping as a quitting aid when many ex-smokers continue to
vape after quitting. Replacing a high-risk behavior with a far less harmful one is a
well-accepted public health strategy, for example, methadone maintenance for heroin
addiction.

Evidence from randomized controlled trials, population studies, and better-quality
observational studies shows that e-cigarettes are effective quitting aids.5 The authors
are correct that short-term nicotine replacement therapy is less harmful than vaping,
but it is also far less effective for quitting, and very few smokers use it.
