Malaysian Technical Universities Conference on Engineering and ABOUT
Technology (MUCET) is jointly organised by Malaysian Technical
Universities Network (MTUN) comprising of Universiti Teknikal Malaysia MUCET 2021
Melaka (UTeM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Universiti Malaysia
Perlis (UniMAP) and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM). Universiti
Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) is proud to host MUCET 2021.
MUCET 2021 12th Edition will highlight the innovative research in science,
engineering and technology with the theme of "Sustainable Engineering &
Technology Towards IR 4.0".
We are pleased to invite the prospective authors to submit original and
unpublished works that address any topics within the areas of Electronic
and Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering &

and Salam Sejahtera. ACTING VICE CHANCELLOR
First and foremost, praise be to Allah, the Almighty, the Benevolent for
His blessings have again enabled us to organize the 12th Malaysian
Technical Universities Conference on Engineering and Technology or
MUCET 2021 - Virtual Edition. Our warmest greetings and welcome to all
speakers and participants of MUCET 2021.
MUCET 2021 is an imperative event for MTUN for it provides a platform for
research expertise and enthusiasts from four technical universities
under the network, namely Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM),
Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang
(UMP) and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UNIMAP) to congregate and share
new, significant as well as important findings from their research.
Privileged as this year’s host, we are indeed honoured to be given the
opportunity to organize and facilitate the amassment of findings, with the
hope that it would catalyse further discussions and foster new
breakthrough ideas that could be leveraged for future research
collaborations.
This year, MUCET 2021 is organized virtually due to the prolonged COVID-
19 pandemic. However, I believe that this event will continue to provide a
substantial platform for the scientists, scholars, researchers, engineers,
and students from MTUN to share and present their salient findings of
ongoing as well as completed research activities, hence invigorating
research collaborations between the technical universities.

The theme of this year’s MUCET, “Sustainable Engineering & Technology FOREWORD BY
Towards IR 4.0” is indeed in tandem with the Government’s strategic
initiatives at linking, in a more effective manner, innovative human capital ACTING VICE CHANCELLOR
with economic growth. As a developing nation, Malaysia relies on its
human capital and universities have a pivotal role in nurturing and
producing this much needed pool of competent and highly skilled labour
force in our endeavour towards a high-income nation
Conclusively, I would like to thank everyone who has rendered much
assistance in ensuring the smooth preparation and success of MUCET
2021 especially the Centre for Research and Innovation Management
(CRIM) UTeM. I am fully confident that this conference will culminate into
another fruitful venture. I take this opportunity to wish all participants a

This year, MUCET 2021 is organized virtually due to the Covid19 pandemic.
However, I believe that this event will successfully create a platform for
the scientists, scholars, researchers, engineers, and students from the
Malaysian Technical Universities Network to share and present their
findings of ongoing and completed original research activities, hence
fostering research collaborations between the universities.
MUCET 2021 offers a total of 7 tracks, that is Electrical & Electronics
Engineering, Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, Civil Engineering,
Education, Social Sciences & Technology Management, Information &
Communication Technology (ICT), Science & Mathematics/Statistics and
Chemical & Natural Resources Engineering and 224 papers have
successfully registered and joined this event. Congratulations to all
participants.
My heartiest congratulations are also to Centre for Research and
Innovation Management (CRIM), together with the co-organizers for this
year's MUCET that is Malaysian Technical Universities Network (MTUN)
who have worked a long way in organizing the virtual MUCET conference
this year. Such effort is highly encouraged since MTUN is centered on
academicians actively involved in research and publication and enhancing
more inventions in various aspects, including teaching and learning,
research, engagement with society, and other beneficial elements. This
event also aligns with MTUN's mission to develop highly competent
technical human capital with the capabilities to support sustainable
development, and competitive edge of the nation.

DATUK AZMAN ISMAIL KEYNOTE

Managing Director, SPEAKER 1
PLUS Malaysia Berhad

BIOGRAPHY

Datuk Azman Ismail was appointed as the Managing Director of PLUS
Malaysia Berhad on 1 January 2017. He also sits on the Board of Projek
Lebuhraya Usahasama Berhad, Teras Teknologi Sdn Bhd, Lebuhraya Pantai
Timur 2 Sdn Bhd and PLUS Helicopter Sdn Bhd.
Datuk Azman, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln USA graduate, where he
earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, was formerly the
Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and General Manager of
Retail Business, overseeing Shell’s petroleum retailing in Malaysia and Brunei
– two positions he held concurrently.
His 30-year distinguished career at the global oil & gas company saw him
held several key roles including those in operations, retail as well as finance.
Datuk Azman also headed the transformation of the retail business in
Malaysia, leading to significant increase in financial results and
improvements in Health, Security, Safety and Environment (HSSE), customer
focus, business controls and turnarounds.
Datuk Azman is also a Board Member of Malaysian Institute of Road Safety
(MIROS). He was recently appointed as the President of the Association of
Highway Concessionaires Malaysia (PSKLM).

FAVORIOT Sdn Bhd

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Mazlan is the co-founder and CEO of FAVORIOT Sdn Bhd. He is ranked
among Top 50 Global Thought Leaders on the Internet of Things (February
2019) and Digital Disruption (October 2019) by Thinkers360, Top 50 Most
Impactful Smart Cities Leaders by World CSR Congress 2017, ranked Top 10 in
IoT Top 100 Influencers by Postscapes 2017 & 2018, ranked No. 20th Thought
Leader in IOT by 2014 Onalytics Report – “The Internet of Things – Top 100
Thought Leaders” and UTM Alumni Industry Personality 2016. He is currently
one of Global Vision Board Member (2017).

Before FAVORIOT, he spent 2.5 years as CEO of REDtone IOT and 8 years in
MIMOS Berhad as Senior Director Wireless Communications Cluster. He also
spent 13 years in CELCOM (mobile operator), handling many senior
management positions.

Prior to Celcom, he spent 10 years as an Assoc. Professor at Universiti
Teknologi Malaysia. He was the Adjunct Professor for UTM from 2008 to 2013,
UTHM (2004-2005, 2013-2016), Universiti Teknologi Petronas (2018-2019)
and Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) (2017-2018) and Universiti
Malaysia (UniMY) (2017-2019). Currently, he is the Adjunct Professor for
MJIIT, UTM (2020-2022).

Dr.Mazlan is a frequent speaker at many major & established IOT, IR 4.0,
Smart Cities and telco conferences locally and globally. He sits in Industry
Advisory Panel (IAP) for several local universities. He graduated from
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia with a BEE (1984), University of Essex (UK) with
MSc. in Telematics (1986) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia with a Ph.D. in
Telecommunications (1993). He also received an Honorary Doctorate in
Electrical Engineering from UTHM (2017). He is also a TEDx Speaker.

KEYNOTE TITLE: HARNESSING THE POWER OF IR 4.0 KEYNOTE

For the last 50 years only 19% of companies are in existence today. Many did SPEAKER 2
not survive or unable to sustain due to many reasons. However, one of the
key reasons are due to the fact that they are unable to compete or remained
competitive whereas their competitors have transformed their business by
leveraging new technologies and new business models.
Digitalisation and Internet are seen to be the core for these transformation.
New products and services have been created. Their operations are
becoming more agile and productive. This is the outcome when companies
embraced new changes openly. Their leaders are the risk takers and have
excellent vision of the future.
Every 3 to 7 years companies need to transform themselves, reinvent their
operations and business. They should look at the current and future trends of
technologies and see whether they can leverage these powerful technologies
and together surf the great waves of disruption. The time has come for us to
harness the power of IR 4.0.

IR. DR. CHENG TUNG CHONG KEYNOTE

Associate Professor, SPEAKER 3
China-UK Low Carbon College,
Shanghai Jiao Tong University

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Chong holds a Ph.D. degree in the field of Energy & Fuels from University
of Cambridge and a Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
His research interests include clean energy technology, biofuel production,
combustion and thermochemical conversion process. He has participated as
PI/Co-PI in 20 research/industrial projects that are related to clean energy
utilization, waste-to-energy and pollution reduction. To date, he has published
more than 120 technical papers. He was awarded the prestigious Newton
Advanced Fellowship from the Royal Society and was recognized as an
Outstanding ASEAN Science Diplomat.
Dr. Chong is a registered Chartered Engineer (CEng) under the UK
Engineering Council and a Professional Engineer (PEng) under the Board of
Engineers Malaysia. He is the winner of a Science Communication competition
organized by EURAXESS China. He now heads the Clean Energy and
Combustion Laboratory at China-UK Low Carbon College.

KEYNOTE TITLE: GREENING THE SKIES WITH LOW CARBON KEYNOTE
AVIATION FUEL
SPEAKER 3
The aviation industry is expected to grow over the next two decades in
tandem with the growing population, which will inadvertently lead to the
increase in pollutant emissions and greenhouse gases. The aviation
community has set an ambitious decarbonization roadmap, by targeting a
reduction of CO2 emissions by 50% (relative to 2005 level) for the aviation
sector by 2050. One of the major thrusts in reducing GHG emissions is by
adopting sustainable jet fuel derived from biomass. In this talk, the progress
in the production pathways of biojet fuels and emerging fuel technologies is
examined, along with the properties specification that must be met in order
to qualify as fit-for-purpose jet fuel. The biojet fuel candidate must go
through a rigorous test program, which include fuel properties screening,
component and rig tests, flight test and finally a thorough review before it
can be certified as an aviation turbine fuel. The recent progress in the
combustion tests critical to the evaluation of biojet fuel are reviewed. Finally,
the impact of aviation biojet fuel on the environment will be discussed from
the point of sustainability and life cycle assessment.
