INTRODUCTION
Sustainability Initiative
KMUTT is one of science and technology universities in Thailand which builds our capability to be a role model on energy and environmental
management in Thailand and integrates to all activities including teaching and research. KMUTT has adopted the goal to be green university since
2005 which focusing on energy, environment, safety and set up university’s Energy Environment and Safety Office to take responsibility for the
system development and implementation.
Sustainability is one of the major challenges of current and future generation of students & staff. Sustainability Initiative in KMUTT aims to commit
to teach sustainable development concepts, encourage research on sustainable development issues, green our campus, and support sustainability
efforts in our communities. KMUTT plans to educate our students and to encourage them to learn outside classroom and transform our campus to
be an ideal environment as living lab for sustainability, developing awareness and innovative solutions to relevant problems that will improve the world
for current and future generations. According to Sustainable Development Goals 2030 (SDGs 2030), KMUTT committed to be Sustainable University
for SDGs 2030 since 2017 which complies national agenda. The university has responsibility to promote sustainable development concepts, encourage
our students to do their parts to protect environment and natural systems, contribute the global and national sustainability agenda and promote the
development of sustainability leadership in our campus.
On KMUTT
King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) can trace its origin to the Thonburi Technology Institute (TTI) which was established
on February 4,1960 and became King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Thonburi (KMITT) in 1974. On March 7, 1998, KMITT became
King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) which is the first among public universities in Thailand to receive full autonomy.
KMUTT is located in Bangkok ,Thailand and has a global network of students and faculty. In academic year 2018/2019, approximately 18,000 students
of all academic levels studied in KMUTT, only 8 % of which were international students,92% remaining were domestic students came from all provinces
within Thailand. KMUTT employs approximately 2,900 staff including international employees. All students and faculty staff are joined and contributed
to the University’s policy and mission to make KMUTT be the sustainable university for SDG2030.
In 2010, KMUTT launched Green University Development policy and committed to environmental leadership in all of university activities from operations,
teaching and conducting research. Our commitments are to be a Green University providing a role model on energy, environment, safety management
systems, promoting the application of all these activities within the university to encourage our students and colleagues to become change agents for
helping the community and society to achieve a better quality of life through the adoption of good energy, environment and safety management systems,
and to strive for continual improvement and sustainability for all.
In 2018, Associate Professor Dr.Suvit Saetia KMUTT President has launched KMUTT sustainable university policy committed to sustainability
leadership in all of our activities from operations, teaching and conducting research. The commitments are to be a Green and Sustainable University
providing a role model on energy, environment, safety management systems, and provide sustainability platform to promote sustainability leadership,
encourage our students and colleagues to become social change agents for helping the community and society, have a better quality of life through
the adoption of SEP for SDG concept and strive for continual improvement in energy, environment and safety management systems to help achieve
sustainability for all.
KMUTT set up university’s Office of Sustainability in 2017. The office plays a major role to exercise on sustainable university for SDG 2030 concept
and adopted KMUTT sustainability strategic plan. The new version of KMUTT sustainability strategic Plan 2019-2024 has been launched on December
2018 which revised from KMUTT sustainability strategic plan 2010-2020 and continual improvement. This has been done to comply with 17 SDG
Goals and seven key elements including Infrastructure and setting, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, education & research
and safety with goal and target.
