Observations
1. Faculty and staff do not return books as per the due date, due to which other users can not get
books on time.
2. Most of the faculty, staff and some student leave the college without no-dues from library; this in
turn retains overdue books on their account forever.
3. Video surveillance available in the library is not accessible to the library staff, so it proves
ineffective to control theft activities of library users.
4. Frequent change of security guard from the library can develop a sense of irresponsibility; this can
result in the theft of books from the library.

Recommendations
1. To minimize theft activities, a security guard can be permanently deployed in the library.
2. Stock area of books can be separated from reading area. In such arrangement, books will be taken
out from the stock only after they are issued (even for reading purpose).
3. A significant role can be played by Head of Departments and faculties to promote Book Bank
facility among students. This will reduce the pressure of theft on popular books available in library
stack.
4. RFID Technology can be implemented to control theft of books; however it is not a complete
solution.
5. Write off both the books already stolen and the books lying issued on accounts of left over faculty,
staff and students is needed to update the library database.
6. Most of the students use laptops for their academic purpose. Availability of Laptop charging
facility will keep them engaged on their laptops and make the library climate even better.
7. Monitoring of user activities in the stack of books through surveillance cameras can be very
effective in the direction to control theft activities. At present, video surveillance available in the
library is not accessible to the library staff.
