SCHOOL
BULLETIN

Mr Martin Shelley \ Hello parents and carers,
Campus Principal

I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to the

new year, it certainly seems to be going very
quickly, with Chinese New Year just around the

corner!

I wan to firstly congratulate our Year 11 students
(and many Year 10s) who are in the midst of their
mock examinations, it is never an easy time, full of

anticipation and concerns, but you have all
handled the process very admirably and I look

forward to you all gaining positive results!

The various building projects around school are
nearing completion and we are looking forward to
opening our new science laboratory in the Primary
school and the whole school cookery room very
soon. We are planning an event to launch the
cookery room to please keep watch for information
of what should be a fun way to launch the new

learning space.

I also want to thank everyone for their continuing
adherence to the SOPs at school and at home, our
school has been very fortunate in that we have very

few positive cases to contend with, and this is a
testament to the whole school community acting
safely and seriously. While we feel that our systems

are robust, there is always a chance of
transmission, and we feel confident with our ability

to deal with any cases effectively and efficiently.
We eagerly await updates on the National Testing

Strategy moving to vaccinate 5-11 years old
children.

I do hope you enjoy looking through this newsletter
and gaining an insight into the amazing learning

that takes place here at Tenby SEH every day!

Best wishes
Mr Martin

Good Morning Everyone, Mrs Madeleine Britton
Head of Primary

I am so excited to be back in Malaysia and will
be returning to the campus on Monday. I am
eagerly awaiting being able to see the children,

staff and parents, as I have missed you all. It
seems everyday life is getting more normalised,

thank goodness!

Competition Results
As you know we held a competition to design
the new ‘struggles’ posters and we have a
winner! I am happy to announce that we have
chosen the design from Oliver Tham (6T), his
sister Olivia (Y10) and their Mom, Ms Sim Lee, a
really family effort! Well done and your prize will
be winging its way to you very soon. The designs
are being digitised and we will see them around
the school this term!
In the next couple of weeks, we have a variety of
things happening. On the 24th we have
International Education Day, which Ms Afifah,
Ms Fazrina and Ms Nadiah are organizing some

activities.

The Primary library is now up and running, and

we have many new guided reading books.
We will be welcoming new staff to school soon,

and every day more and more children are
joining us,

Welcome to you all!

Please don’t forget you can contact me on Class

Dojo, via the Primary School secretary or by
email for any concerns or suggestions. We also
have a suggestion box next to the Primary Office

for anything you may wish to comment on.

Best Regards:
Ms Madeleine

While Term 2 is already three weeks old, the Mr Jeffrey Elliott
momentum at Secondary continues to pick up Head of Secondary

with several academic and extra-curricular
developments taking place. At the IGCSE level,
Year 11 students have almost completed their

Mocks and will now be using teacher
feedback to make further progress before

their May / June exams.

Complimenting the Mock exams, career
counsellors from the ISP team were on
campus as well to provide guidance and
support for all Year 11 students as they
consider post IGCSE options, including the A-
Level programme opening at SEH in August

2022.

While life for IGCSE students has been
quite stressful for the past two weeks, those in
the younger years have been enjoying several
exiting activities. The Eco Garden has been
prepared for the planting stage and the
tilapia in our aquaponics tank continue grow
by the day! Not to be outdone by the outdoor
activities, things are looking bright inside as
well with the Chinese New Year Door
Decoration Competition now visibly underway.
While extra-curricular activities have been in
full swing, purposeful lessons continue to take
priority and we are happy to share a glimpse
of these in this newsletter. Until next time, do

take care and stay safe.

Early Years Amazing Learning

This week, the Reception children were introduced to the tricky word
"the" in Phonics lesson. We made funny sentences using the tricky word

and learned and practised our letter formation skills by writing "the"
correctly on our whiteboards. For our activity, we played a game to help
us practise our reading skills by identifying tricky words and CVC words.
The teacher said a word and the children had to read and stand in the
correct circle. The Reception children showed good struggle during the

lesson. Well done, everyone!

Early Years Amazing Learning

Reception children engaged in amazing learning while deepening their
knowledge of the /w/ sound. The students practised fine motor skills by
making playdough /w/ and then wrote on their whiteboards to master
the correct letter formation. We identified words which contain the /w/
sound and noted whether this sound is at the beginning, middle or the

end of the word. Many children experienced a good struggle as they
drew things which begin with /w/ and wrote words or even sentences
describing their drawing. We consolidated our knowledge while playing

Phonics hopscotch in which children practised reading CVC words.
Excellent work, Reception!

Amazing Learning - Year 2

In maths this week, the children in 2T learned about making arrays. We
learned that arrays are ways of counting in columns and rows and that

we can write multiplication sentence using our knowledge in arrays.
Here you can see some fun ‘Array Cities’ and the building of arrays as a

way to display their understanding of the subject. Good struggle all
around in 2T!

Amazing Learning - Year 3

This week in IPC, Year 3 students were introduced to the artist George
Seurat. He was well-known for his use of the Pointillism technique in his

artwork. We had a lot of fun creating a piece of art inspired by the
Pointillism technique. Great work, Year 3!

Amazing Learning - Year 5

Creating a living museum is so much fun! Students chose their own
historical figure to research and learn more about it. Later, they dressed

up and presented their information, acting as the character, to the
class.

Amazing Learning - Year 6

This week, in IPC, our Year 6 students explored the skill of timeline
creations. Some focused on the largest empires and civilizations in
history and placed them on their line – while others expanded on this.
Here are some of the timelines that Year 6 students have created.

Prefects

Prefects met for the first time in Term 2 to discuss their duties,
responsibilities, and other issues that had arisen. They’ve also planned

how they aim to design their Prefects' Board. They got together,
brainstormed ideas, and collaborated to decorate the board. Here are
some photos that depict the process, effort, and passion that they have

put forth in carrying out their duties as school prefects.

The Teacher of the Week

Ms. Rina has been working in a variety of guises in Tenby: SEN support,
Year 3 class teacher, and now Year 4 class teacher, not to mention our

Street Child United Coordinator. We greatly appreciate her gentle,
caring demeanour, hard work, dedication to good struggle, and all that

she does for the children in her care.

Did you know that Japanese and Korean cuisine is Ms. Rina’s favourite,
and her favourite colour is turquoise?! As I am sure you know, Ms. Rina
is Malaysian, but were you aware she grew up in Johor Bahru? She has

one sibling, a younger brother.

She is a lady full of surprises! Not only does she still have a keen interest
in Special Educational Needs, but she also studied criminology. Through

the research she has done in that field, she published a book! Watch
out, you won’t get away with anything when Ms. Rina is on the case!

She is a really wonderful, multi-faceted member of our Primary
Teaching Team, and we are lucky to have her with us.

Amazing Learning of our Year 7 Geography students. Students were
given a project to design a map of their own country. It was amazing to
see their ideas developing skills on the maps through digital and hand

drawing. This proves that our students are getting better.

Why stretching is important
Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy. We need that

flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it, the
muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscles
for activity, they are weak and unable to extend all the way. That puts

you at risk for joint pain, strains, and muscle damage.

A figure I admire
Role models are important to fulfill leadership potential. Every great
leader has a role model who helps them imagine themselves in the
future and realize that their dreams are well, and goals can be fulfilled.
Admired figures full of great traits and qualities come from different
backgrounds like Hellen Keller, Nelson Mandela, Lee Chong Wei, Malala

Yousafzai and many more. This term, Year 9 Students were taught
about meeting people from a variety of backgrounds. They get to know

and learn about admired figures from all over the world.

Art & Design Technology

In art class, we set up the still life in the middle of the classroom so it
can be viewed from all angles. Once the initial set-up of the still life is
complete, students are invited to move their seats and walk around the

arrangement to find a spot that’s inspiring to them. To create a
dynamic array of objects that pushes students to experiment, we
incorporate things such as cloth fold, Tetra Pak, glass, metal, musical
instruments to our display. Once the first still life is complete, we dive

into art history! .

Information and
Communications Technology

(ICT)

Year 11 teacher and students work
closely for proper planning and

strategy for preparing for ICT mock
exams. Closer to the exam, we

transform revision notes in a diagram.
In that manner, the visual

remembrance can aid students’
readiness considerably when taking

the exam.

Internet safety is part of our lessons that
can ensure students are getting the
right information for secure and safe
browsing. Cyber safety instructions in
the posters help students see the
connections between overall good
citizenship and digital citizenship.

We are pleased to announce that our team of Wong Zhi Hang, Dorothys
Wong and Lee Zhen Huang were collectively the first runner up of The
DATAVIZ Challenge 2021 through the Faculty of Science and
Engineering at Nottingham University.
The Data Visualisation challenge offered the secondary students a
platform to deepen their understanding of data science, more

specifically on the analysis of large-scale data. The judges chose 8 eight
teams from Malaysia to enter the Grand Finale.

In this final stage, the students prepared a presentation in which they
explained the rationale behind the design that went into their
infographic as well as the creation process.

globally involving more than 150,000 students, facts that highlight just

how impressive Zhi Hang’s achievement is on the global stage.
Amazing work Zhi Hang, we are very proud of you and good luck on

your exams in Year 11!

Biology and Chemistry. I really enjoy Biology and Chemistry calculations

because when experimenting with different substances, through trial
and error, to eventually get the right result is very rewarding and
satisfying.” – Zhi Hong

To him, ‘Amazing learning’ is about perusing
understanding diligently. A few things may
come easily to learners but most knowledge

arrives after effort, and amazing learners
are willing to put in the time. He believes by

statement; the outcome of ‘Amazing

they had learn in the classroom into the real
world. In short, the applications of theories
into the real-world setting. A pet peeve that
Mr. Danial finds very hard to grasp is when

his students would say “It’s hard, I do not

remind his students that it is okay to make
mistakes when learning because it is the
platform for them to do better in future.

Ringing in the New Year with
new house point totals!

Welcome back to yet another fantastic update on the house point records for this
term! The students seem to be starting off the year strong with totals in the hundreds.

The Blue house is taking the lead once again with a total of 696 points. The Green
house is following not too far behind with a total of 617, an effort which is rivalled by
the Red House’s total of 615 points. The Yellow house is fighting their way up to the
ranks alongside the Red house with a total of 598 points, which is not a number to be

taken lightly.
The total for the academic year closely follows the same pattern, with the Blue House
coming out on top again with 4552 points, the Red house following hot on their heels

with 4339, the Green House contending with 3948 and the Yellow House making a
strong effort with 3736.

Will the houses maintain these outcomes or will future developments surprise us?
