Newsletter 8

MESSAGE FROM
MR. MARTIN

DEAR PARENTS, STUDENTS, AND STAFF,

I firstly want to wish everyone a huge
congratulations! We have all persevered through
another very challenging, but extremely rewarding
year, with positivity and success. I would like to
thank each and every one of you for your
contributions to school life in 2021-22, it was a
wonderful year, full of amazing learning and
fantastic opportunities.

The International Day and Art Auction were brilliant occasions, and I cannot express
how proud I was of the school community pulling together to offer our students
something very special at each event. Events like these bring an infectious sense of life
and joy to the school and I look forward to many more this coming year.

I want to wish a heartfelt good luck to our Year 11 graduates as IGCSE results day fast
approaches, I hope you gain the results you truly deserve and have incredible success
wherever your path takes you now. Of course, it goes without saying that we would love
to see as many of you as possible return and join our first ever Year 12 cohort, studying
A-levels.

I am immensely excited for the next academic year; we have a lot in store for 2022-23
and I cannot wait to get back to school and start what promises to me the most
‘normal’ year we have had for quite some time!

I do hope everyone can really enjoy the long break, and rest, relax and recharge, as well
enjoy some well-earned time with friends and families.

Have a wonderful break everyone, my best wishes to you all,

Stay safe,

MESSAGE FROM
MRS. MADELEINE

GOOD DAY TO YOU ALL, DEAR TENBY FAMILY.

Well, this is the last newsletter of Academic Year
2021-2022, and what a year it has been!
It seems that we are finally able to say adieu to
the ups and downs caused by the impact of
Covid-19, at least in terms of school closures, and
move forward with our SEH learning journey.

We have seen many exciting things this year in the Primary School, from car washing
fund raisers, to bake sales to the opening of our science lab and Primary library. Not to
mention sports carnivals, International Day, and our other live event celebrations. The
children have all worked hard academically and in their school life to ensure they are
getting better day by day, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for
your support for them and us during this last year, we couldn't have done it without you!

We are saying goodbye to some members of staff, who are moving on to pastures new,
Ms. Mala, Ms. Prhaaviynaa, Ms. Seren, Ms. Nimi, and Ms. Pam. We wish them well in their
future endeavours.
We are happy to announce that we will be welcoming new members of staff who are
joining us from international schools around KL. Mr. Arvind, Ms. Raji, and Ms. Sakeela will
be joining us in KS2 and bringing with them a breath of fresh air, and a lot of valuable
experience.
Ms. Amy, Ms. Farzana, and Ms. Farhana will be taking on class teacher roles and Ms. Syalini
is our new Primary art teacher.

In the new year Years 4, 5, and 6 will moving to the KS2 block near to the Event Hall, and
we have many exciting things planned, not least an improved curriculum in terms of
foundation subjects like geography, history, D&T, and of course science.
I would also like to thank my Primary Leadership Team (Heads of Key Stages) Ms. Izabela,
Ms. Lily, and Ms. Mandy for their hard work, dedication, and support for their teams, me,
and of course the children, and of last but by no means least a big thank you to Mr.
Martin for his support during his first year as Campus Principal.

I do hope that you all have a fantastic summer and see you in the new academic year.
Stay Safe,

MESSAGE FROM
MR. JEFFREY

DEAR TENBY PARENTS AND GUARDIANS,

We have made it to the end of the academic
school year, a year that has seen so many
challenges, achievements, and successes. The
transition from online learning to a rotation, and
then finally to full in school instruction as truly
been a once in a lifetime experience. I am so
proud of how our students demonstrated
resilience during these challenges, and I would
also like to thank all parents and caregivers who
were so supportive.

The past month has seen so many events and celebrations, many of which will be
detailed in the newsletter below. Our Art Auction raised a significant amount of money
for charity, International Day was a collaborative success [thank you to the PTA!],
Science Week was full of robust learning and practical experiments and the recent field
trips allowed students to close out the year with such a positive experience.

I would like to extend a massive thank you to all the teachers and staff at school as well.
The job of teaching is a difficult one at the best of times, and the challenges this year
were significant. Despite these challenges, students continued to make amazing
progress and genuinely enjoyed their time in lessons.

Looking forward to next year, there is much reason for joy and excitement. Our A-Level
programme will be officially started in August, there will be more events such as Sports
Day and Swimming Gala and we will be welcoming more teachers into our classrooms
because of the continuing growth of the school.
From myself and all the teachers in Secondary, have a wonderful summer ahead with
friends and family.

Warm regards

YEARS

The Nursery children enjoyed working on their
language and communication skills as they
listened attentively to a storybook called “We’re
Going on a Bear Hunt” by Michael Rosen. Apart
from reading the story and discussing it, we sang
'Going on a Bearhunt’ song and participated in
role-play activities. We also had a wonderful time
making bear puppets and pretending to be the
scary bear! Awesome work, NE!

YEARS

This is the last week of Term 3. NT
children had a few team building
activities and beautiful tea party on
the last day of school. The team
building activities helped the children
to work cooperatively and able to
cheer for their team to win.
Moreover, on the last day of school,
the children ended the day with
beautiful tea party. They dressed up
wonderfully and they brought some
plush animals, blanket and pillow for
the party. This has been a precious
way to begin the summer break. We
had the tea party in the classroom
under the air-condition. The children
set up by spreading the
blanket/carpet on the floor and
enjoyed their very own tea party with
some delicious snacks.

YEARS

This term in IEYC, RT children explored ‘Weather Wonders’ topic. They learnt about
sunny and cloudy days, measured rainfall, watched storms, listened to thunders,
excavated things frozen in ice blocks, talked about snow, experienced wind and
explored sunlight and shadows. For our Exit Point, we had so much fun engaging in a
rainy role play activity. The children took turns to use a watering can to pretend to
be rain whilst their friend had to try their best to stay dry while it was ‘raining’. It was
interesting to see how children tried different approaches to remain dry. Fun times,
RT!

YEARS

This week the Reception children took part in
some story-based activities. We focused on the
storybook called “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” by
Michael Rosen. We read the story, made a bear
craft, engaged in role play activities and
performed the story in front of our peers. It was
super fun! Well done RE class!

In IPC lesson, Year 1 prepared musical instruments using junk materials for
their Exit point. Besides, they used the musical instruments for their musical
band. Excellent job, 1N!

AmaziYnEgALRea2rning

Last week, the Year 2 students
celebrated their IPC Exit Point
for the unit Media Magic. The
students did a fantastic job at
displaying their learning by
creating fact files, posters, and
3D models. They worked in
small groups and showed
wonderful cooperation,
creativity, and communication
skills.
Excellent work, Year 2!

AmazYinEgALRe5arning

We researched on the reasons
of migration and the different
problems that other countries
faced. After that, we have
worked hard to plan, design,
and build a smart city that can
resolved these problems. At
the same time, instilling what
we have learnt this year, we
explained the needs and wants
of human when living in a city. !

ECO COMMITTEE
FINAL PROJECT
2021/2022

This week, we've been working
on our final CCA project, which
involves growing beans in a
bag. They will enjoy growing
beans in a bag because they
can observe the various stages
of the plant's life cycle. It is a
simple and engaging way to
teach your children about plant
biology! We've also used
eggshells, newspapers, and
bags as seeding materials.
We even went to the school's
field to hang the bird feeder on
which we had been working for
two weeks. We use recycle
material to create our bird
feeder. It was an incredible
experience for them to be a
part of our CCA, and we hope
they will participate again in
our next academic year.

Year 6 has a fantastic term learning about Food and Drinks around
the world. They get a hands-on lesson to practise their
understanding by preparing a full recipe (including the ingredients
and steps to make their signature sandwich) and get their
sandwich making skills challenged!

MUSIC

IThe students learn how to feel the pulse in music and experiment
with the percussion instrument. Ater a few weeks lesson they all
now can play and perform in solo and ensemble contexts, using
their voices (and playing instruments) with increasing
accurancy,fluency,control and expression.

The PREFECTS

To celebrate the end of the school year, the prefects planned an
exciting activity. They prepared a gift for their friends and enjoyed
opening the gifts they received. They have worked together for
the past two terms, delegating tasks, and assisting students in
need. As a result, this activity allows them to show their
appreciation for one another. What a fun way to wrap up the
school year!

Life gets stressful at times and it can take a toll on us. Taking time off to relax can
help us improve our overall health and well-being. Recognising when to relax is an
important aspect of living a balanced lifestyle. There are different ways to relax,
and it differs for everyone. Taking time to identify what works for us can help us
better to get into relaxation mode and recharge.

Some ways to relax:
1.Spending time with family and friends
2.Go for a slow walk and admire nature
3.Listen to some relaxation music/ music we enjoy
4.Close our eyes for 15 minutes.
5.Do some moderate stretching/ workout for 10 minutes during our lunch break.
6.Go on a social media detox
7.Practice meditation
8.Take a warm bath
9.Journal about our thoughts and day

Maths Department

Collaborative learning is essential for 21st century learning skills. Here our Year 7Ma1
and Year 8Ma2 students were divided into groups of three or four. They needed to
draw and cut several 2 dimensional shapes like squares, triangles, circles,
trapeziums and rectangles from recycled boxes. Each group must work together to
use the said shapes to form a 3 dimensional object like a house or any vehicle. The
task had to be completed within class time. Students worked together in groups
and they enjoyed the given tasks.

English Department

This week in English we wrote flash fiction stories. Flash fiction is a short
story (less than 1,000 words), however, we focused on stories that were
exactly 100 words based on the argument that imposing restrictions
encourages creativity. Students had to work together to develop their
ideas and provide feedback on each other’s work.

The disappointing bowl of porridge
Stuck in a room, feeling hopeless.
All I want is a bowl of porridge. My
head was cloudy and I couldn't
think of anything anymore. All I
want is a bowl of porridge. I
searched "porridge" online and
one result came out, it really
looked tempting. I pressed the
order button and it suddenly
appeared outside of my room. I
ran to grab it. The aroma
immediately revived my spirit. I
took a big mouthful thinking it'll
greet me with flavours of
happiness. However, my liveliness
faded away and I stood there
disheartened. It was tasteless. It
needed more salt.

The Business Studies students have carried out marketing research about a
product or a service that they are going to sell in their business. They need to
use the 4Ps in marketing, which is product, price, place and promotion before
selling them. They also did a video about their findings and analysed the data
from the survey. In the journey of this marketing survey, they are eligible to
select 10 customers only from the school and the data should be based on
results that they have retrieved from their marketing survey.

FRIENDLY MATCH

Joyful Aquaponics
Vegetables
Harvesting

The green mustard (sawi) grows from seed to harvest in 10 weeks from planting seedling

and germination in the cold science lab, and then transfer to the trough on the fishpond.
The baby mustard took two weeks to adapt to the hot and humid outdoor environment. It
became a routine for me to check on the vegetables every morning before school starts
just to make sure that they continue to grow well. The students also do water testing
every week to ensure that the water quality is good for both fish and vegetables. With the
growth of the plants, we found that the ammonia level of the fishpond was maintain at 0
ppm and the nitrate level was maintained at around 0.25 ppm. The fish and vegetables
grow together with the plants filtering water naturally for the fish and the fish proving an
organic food source for the plants. The success of the aquaponics gardening is a
collaboration effort from both Year 7 students who fed the fish every day and the
sampling testing students careful monitoring effort. It is such a joyful moment to harvest
and share the vegetables among the school community.

Science WEek

During the Science Week dated from 4 July to 7 July, the KS3 students formed a project
group and chose a topic of their great interest. Then they conducted a literature review of
their research topic, finding information on the internet, and developed their hypothesis.
After that, the students plan and test their hypothesis through experiment or survey. The
theme of this year Science Week is Sustainable science for a Sustainable World. Students
did their experiment by using everyday items that they can find at home. They should not
create much waste from their experiment as well. Therefore, at the end of their project,
students created a Microsoft Sway presentation to replace the traditional project display
board made from papers. In the first two days of the week, students conducted their
experiment and survey under the supervision of the Science teachers. At the same time,
students also worked hard on their Sway presentation. They learned about making
Microsoft Sway from Ms Hana, the ICT teacher. Ms Hana trained he students from novice
to Microsoft Sway in two weeks time!On the third day (6 July), students visited their
peers’ project in Science labs. During the showcase sessions, students learned from each
other, gave constructive comments and find ways to improve their projects. On the
judging day, the KS3 students presented their project and research findings to the judges.
School principal Mr Martin, Head of Secondary Mr Jeff, deputy heads Mr Ng, Finance
officer Ms Grace and Ms Norlee, IT manager Mr Jason, department heads Mr Luke, Ms
Nicole, Mr Murthi, and all teachers were the honourable judges. The Year 10 students were
also invited to judge the presentation. All students took part in presentations including
the EAL students.Science Week is an event for All, providing the learning opportunity for
communication, respect, initiative, collaboration, thoughtfulness, creativity, resilience and
leadership.

Zero waste day

Last Friday, I AM AN ISP SCIENTIST group had held an activity day – Zero Waste
Day, all the staffs and students brought their own water bottles, cups and cutlery
to school. They used reusable straws and handkerchiefs instead of using plastic
straws and tissues. Moreover, no food was wasted and no trash or litter was seen
around the school. Let’s do our part to make a better future!

Assembly team

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are your emcees for tonight!

Wong Kher Wen and Ng Giing from Assembly Team hosted a glamorous Graduation
Ceremony for all of our Year 11 graduates. In our student leadership team, we placed a
great emphasis on the inheritance of these great attributes like ‘Cooperation’ and
‘Communication’, Sia Tsu Roe guided both of her juniors with her experience being an
emcee of last year’s graduation ceremony, celebrating their success together, isn’t this
amazing?

External Activities
super park

Secondary students have tremendous of fun in SuperPark yesterday during our
Activity Week! They corporated with their friends to overcome some obstacle
challenges! What an exciting day to end the term!

Internal Activities
drama workshop

19 students from Year 7 – Year 10 took part in the Drama
Workshop during Internal Activities Day. As you can see, they
were very creative and busy getting into character. It was a very
active drama workshop and a good time was had by all.

Internal Activities
Eco friendly bag

Eco-friendly Pouch Design workshop was held during Secondary Activity Week. In
this workshop, students first turned wasted plastic bags into plastic textile which
then was used as a raw material to make their own-designed upcycled pouch.
Students demonstrated strong initiative and persistency in the efforts of making
their unique pouch overcoming many challenges and difficulties along the
processes; what’s more, many of them were first-timers in ironing and stitching!
See, we have many talented designers in the school!

Internal Activities
squid game

During the activity week, our students immersed themselves with lots of joy with
the modified version of Squid Game. It is admirable to see how our amazing
students utilized their communication and cooperation skills throughout their
exploration. Bravo!

Year 10 Genomics
Workshop by Dr. Song
Beng Kah from
Monash University

I initially expected the DNA workshop to be a regular classroom experience, but it
turned out to be really fun and memorable. The competitive and collaboration
aspect of it was very enjoyable as this helped us to stay focused. I walked out of
the workshop with new knowledge and an interest in DNA research, two things that
are normally difficult to give teenagers in such a short span of time. We spent the
first few minutes of the workshop learning about DNA research at Monash
University from Dr Song. Then we started in on DNA extraction from papaya cubes
using various substances, which was very interesting to observe. After this, we
tried our hand at injecting DNA samples into electrophoresis wells. It wasn't as easy
as it looked but was still fun to do. Then we played a DNA strand arranging game
and held a mini awards ceremony. Overall, the experience was very enlightening,
and the coordinators helped us solve any problems we faced
